Medium ruby-garnet color. Nice nose of cherries, bramble, a bit of oak. Smooth and jammy on the palate, with flavors of cherry, loganberry, and cranberry. Not tart by any means. Finishes fast with just a bit of grip and compote notes. A slurpable wine with some deliciousness, it's not striving for much and it doesn't ask for much. Which is fine.

Decanted 45 mins. ahead. Bricky garnet color, a few browish tinges. Nose has floral, plum, spice, and pomegranate notes. Light-bodied and nicely tart on the palate in a food-friendly way. Earthy berry flavors lead. The finish is longer than you might expect, with notable fine-grained tannins and a touch of ink. Bright and quaffable.

A successful garagiste effort. Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Blackish garnet color. Nice nose of black pepper, bramble, cherries, a bit of coffee. Sprightly on the palate, with firm acids, amid earthy cherry flavors. It's medium-bodied, but dark in color and flavor. Finishes with drying, abundant, fine-grained tannins. An ambitious bottle that could probably use more time.

Pale amber color. Nice nose of quince, wax, stones. Medium bodied and softish on the palate, like a lot of CA viognier. Somewhat honeyed texture from wood exposure. Finishes with nutty flavors and a touch of bitterness. Serious. Interesting.

Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Ultra-deep garnet. Nice nose of red fruits and bramble, which I might otherwise call clean white pepper. The latter is a good thing about this wine. Red-fruit, jammy flavors lead on the palate in a texture that swings toward softness. I do hope for more acid, because otherwise the flavors here are Generally Quite Good. Finishes fast. I admire Michael Klouda; he's doing some new things in Lodi, and we should support him.

This wine could tell you a lot about why the Petite Sirah support group P.S. I Love You was founded. Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Very deep, nearly opaque garnet color. Nice nose of an array of black fruits, mixed with a nice touch of vanilla. Full-bodied and very juicy on the palate, with firm acids, but certainly not tart. Flavors are fruit-led, but not simple. Finishes fast with low grip and moderate tannins that smoothed out with time in the glass. P.S., I . . . love you? . . . How about PSIFYVA: PS I find you very attractive.

Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Medium garnet color. Nice nose, led by earthy spices; cherries behind. Medium-bodied on the palate, with rhubarb, black cherry, and violet flavors. Acid balance is just to the left of medium, which means just a shade toward softness. Finishes fast. A most ingratiating bottle of vino.

How far will sheer deliciousness get you? Pretty far in my case. Decanted 1 hr. ahead and sampled over the next hour. Medium garnet with rusty touches. Nice nose of earth, rosemary, cherries, bramble (sometimes known as white pepper). Medium-light bodied on the palate, very ingratiating, as cherry flavors lead over hints of tobacco. Acid balance is toward deliciousness, as the wine is not tart but certainly not soft; well-balanced for its weight. Finishes quickly. This wine has a high component of sheer drinkability; what more do you want in a CA Barbera? At this moment I can't remember.

Medium garnet color, pretty. Nice nose of black cherry, white pepper, blueberry, a bit of bramble. Medium-bodied and rich on the palate, as extracted tones of blackberry join. The richness is a surprise after the medium color of this wine. Acid balance is smooth but not soft; rather elegant. The finish is drying, with light tannins. A very nice bottle.

It's medium-bodied with a lively acid balance. Finish is drying with light tannins. Deliciousness leads here, which is a good thing. Quite delicious, which is what you look for in CA Barbera. Or at least I do.

Acid balance is moderate, shading toward softness. Not long on oak, and toward the darker end of the Barbera spectrum. The finish includes black fruits and very low tannins. A pleasant wine, rich and dark.

Finishes fast, with light, drying grip and very low tannins. 2010 was a cold year; this wine may show that in the tartness and low extraction levels. Simplicity came along too. A perfectly credible bottle.

An intense bottle. Deep garnet. Nice nose of bramble, white pepper, black cherries. Rich and tart on the palate, somewhat austere even. Currant and blueberry flavors along with some herbal notes in a medium-full, hard texture. The finish is fairly long, drying, moderately tannic. An ambitious bottle that shows an extracted style backed by very firm acids. Maybe it needs time but right now it is very intense.

Who makes St. Laurent? Almost nobody, but maybe they should start. Medium-deep garnet color, with flashes of purple. Nice nose that leads with floral tones, followed by cherries, plums; quite fragrant. Moderately soft on the palate, with medium body; it resembles a Pinot Noir but with more body. Black fruits balanced by spice flavors. Finishes quickly, slightly drying, with low tannins. ABV is 11.8. I don't normally give scores over 90 unless a wine has potential for the future. This wine probably does not, but it's so good & fragrant right now, that it forces me to bend the rules.

Light to medium-bodied on the palate, very sprightly, pleasantly tart and uncomplicated. The finish is slightly grippy with light tannins and citrus notes. This is a fun wine that resembles Beaujolais Nouveau, but with darker fruits. Enjoyable for sure.

Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Meidum garnet color. Nice nose of cherries, red berries, hard spices. Medium-bodied on the palate, with cherry cola and blueberry flavors. Acid balance is not soft, certainly not tart. It comes across as if it's either not 100% zin or that it's one of the new-style, more restrained zins; probably both are true. Finishes fast, with low grip and low tannins. Completely pleasant.
