1/30/2024 - primitivo Likes this wine: 88 pointsDark fruit, a bit of must, soft on the palate, medium body, a light nice bitterness on the brief finish. Pleasant, not complex. |

11/4/2023 - primitivo Likes this wine: 85 pointsThis is about as good as it gets for a balance between quality and price for a pinot noir. Don't mis-read that statement - this is not perfect, and it shouldn't be for 10 bucks. But the flaws are subdued and it has enough traits of a true pinot to make it worth your while. At this price, just pick up a bottle and see if it works for you. I would buy again. The score? It is, as always, subjective at best. I mean, what can you expect for 10 bucks? I'm in the 80-85 range, which is the "Good" category. |

2021 Martin Ray Pinot Noir Sonoma Coastmore |
11/3/2023 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 70 pointsDon’t buy this. Thin, disjointed, flat, hot, weak finish. An insult to Sonoma Coast. If this sounds harsh…..well, something has to to be said to offset the flowery description on the bottle. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

10/7/2023 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 78 pointsPoured a bit darker than most Pinots. The label said “fruit forward”, which is true, it smelled of grape juice and must. Label also said “layers of complexity”, which leaves me puzzled. It had no body, watery with a very short finish. I won’t buy again. I’m being generous with a 78 rating. |

3/6/2023 - primitivo Likes this wine: 87 pointsI enjoyed this, but not as much as the 2006 vintage. The 2012 had an undertone of chemical notes which I did not enjoy as much. It also had the leather, spice, fruit that is typical. Will continue to buy. |

9/12/2022 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 75 pointsWell…..it was worth a try…..but no. I’ve had decent Pinots from Costco at the $7 price point, so thought I would give this one a try. All the parts are there, but they fit together kinda like Frankenstein. Fruity bouquet, weak body, acid (to much), bitterness prevails throughout. Some heat as well. This was one you did not let linger on the palate. Tried it with food, without, and with chocolate. I’m giving it a generous 75 pts, but it’s a solid “Do Not Buy”. |

9/2/2022 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 60 pointsOK, I'm doing the right thing here and using this entire bottle for a wine reduction to mix with hamburger meat. This wine does not deserve to stand on it's own. It reminds me of one of those flavored water drinks, except they taste good. This wine is watery, astringent, nothing but fruit, zero finish. Do not buy. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2014 Casa Santos Lima SyrahVinho Regional Lisboa more |
9/1/2022 - primitivo Likes this wine: 87 pointsDark red fruits on the nose, still a lot of fruit considering the 2014 vintage (but this disappeared quickly), tiny bit of heat on the palate which quickly dissipated to reveal cooked red fruit, herb and a bit of earth. Nice finish with graphite and soft tannins. Good QPR. This one was a gift, so not sure where to buy, and it seems somewhat scarce online. |

2/20/2022 - primitivo Likes this wine: 89 pointsI owe this wine a new review - tasted 2 years ago and my assessment has improved significantly. I'm going from a 78 to 89 score after 2 years of cellar time. Dark fruit, dried plums, raisins, smoke and a slight chemical note on the nose. Medium body with nice acidity. Chewy but smooth tannins on the finish. None of the heat/alcohol that was present 2 years ago. Nice! |

2018 Pasqua Ripasso della Valpolicella SuperioreCorvina Blend, Corvina more |
2/2/2022 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 85 pointsThere is nothing wrong with this wine, unless you are expecting it to taste like a Ripasso. Which I was, even tho it only cost $12.99 CAD. I suppose at that price point Ripasso is a bit to much to expect. The wine was lighter in color than I expected, and there were none of the raisin/prune tones that usually accompany a Ripasso. Body a bit thin, short finish. A decent table wine at this price point, but not a Ripasso. |

12/18/2021 - primitivo Likes this wine: 90 pointsWe were pleasantly surprised by this budget pinot noir that we received as a gift. Subdued bouquet of cherries, spice and smoke. More cherries on the palate, nice acidity, finish was a bit short. Not complex, but a great little table wine. Looks like Argentina is stepping up. Buy again. |

11/20/2021 - primitivo Likes this wine: 88 pointsSubdued bouquet, which reminded me of a burgundy. Cherries, spice, tobacco, all served up in an understated but classy way. The palate had hints of typical pinot, but also not. It was a pleasant but not complex wine. Medium finish. |

11/14/2021 - primitivo Likes this wine: 90 pointsCitrusy nose, lemon and green apples on the palate, light body, nice mineral finish if a little tart. A nice Chablis that I would buy again. And up against a big name Chablis I recently drank, this one would win. |

8/13/2021 - primitivo Does not like this wine: NRThis will be my last review of anything labelled Hello Summer. We had a family gathering, and I put all the Hello Summer Sampler bottles on the table. We had a great time sampling the wines, and eventually had a fun game where we blended various wines and had to come up with a "blended" name as well. Some of the blends were decent, some were horrid, as you might imagine. |

7/30/2021 - primitivo Does not like this wine: 70 pointsThe wine pours a beautiful pink in the glass.....and the kind words stop there. Indistinct bouquet, perhaps floral. To be fair we were outside and the wind was blowing a bit. Then there is the palate....such as it is. Weak, thin, a few notches above water. And a plethora of acid, to the point of burning. Finish? No. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2020 Hello Summer Céu do NortePortugal Rosé Blend more |
7/29/2021 - primitivo wrote: 79 pointsWe started off our Hello Summer Sampler with the Ceu do Norte rose. Our expectations were not high, but we thought it would be fun to try 12 different half bottles. I have to give this an average score and a neutral rating, which for me is a don't buy again. There's nothing really wrong with the wine, but we struggled to find something to like. The nose was closed and elusive, but we finally decided we got a whiff of pears and flowers. The palette was nondescript and the finish was short. Hoping the sampler gets better from here.....but we'll enjoy the fun of the adventure regardless! |

7/6/2021 - primitivo Likes this wine: 88 pointsAt $8, this is a great little red blend table wine. Dark fruit on the nose, maybe a hint of green pepper, dark fruit on the palate, medium finish, soft tannins. The finish had just a tad of bitterness that was somewhat overdone. But overall, great for the price. |
