2007 Terredora di Paolo Aglianico Campania IGT

more

5/4/2014 - VinLancaster wrote: NR

From pop and pour:
Faintly scented wet brick, rhubarb, smoked saline, toast, caramel, diesel and game-funk. Faded on the palate exposing sharp non-distinct red fruit, leather, cigar box and a cotton mouth drying finish which was quite astringent.
After two hours:
Vastly improved mouth feel; soft plums, juicy crushed fruit and stones arose. Smooth, easy to drink with bit of heat noted which was ultra subtle. Great with a hearty pasta dish.

2009 Cesari Ripasso della Valpolicella Superiore Bosan

Corvina Blend, Corvina more

5/3/2014 - VinLancaster Likes this wine: NR

This opulent Ripasso begins with an array of aromatics including sweet-wet tobacco, smouldering cherries and mulberries gorged in Pastis coated in cow hide. Parades a richness on the tongue with raisins and prunes steeped in clove infused rum, chewy fruit skins and finishes with an oily impression that drifts on the palate for an elongated span of time.

Sultry brandied cherries and pencil lead essence. Clean with bright fruit, layers of stones, culinary herbs, smoky earth, roasted red fruits and beef wrapped in leather. A bit of warmth on the back end with dryness that carries it through the pure finish. Benefited from 2-3 hours of decant. Give this a few more years to reach its full potential.

Deep and vast on the nose displaying purple fruits spiced with iron drenched soils, coal and brier. Smooth, powerful and polished, this endless Syrah glides on the tongue with refined black fruits and soft acidity. This is well rounded and drinking well with plenty of air. Still has many years left in my book.

This excellent Sangiovese made by Chrisinsunnyside is easy to drink showing juicy bright and spiced fruit. Displaying pretty floral and earth aromatics with hints of crushed rock. This glides down the throat with petal softness. I sampled this wine shortly after bottling and 6 months of cellaring has provided additional nuances and pleasure.
Delightful!

Infanticide perhaps, but this cab was beaming with lovely rich red and black fruits, nutmeg, floral notes, wood mushrooms and a mass of structure. Finished long without any noticeable heat. Continued to unravel over the course of the night offering surprising complexity and interest.

2009 PB Wines (Rasa Vineyards) Cabernet Franc

2/21/2014 - VinLancaster Likes this wine: NR

Tremendous notes of violets, tarragon, thyme, cassis, cocoa bark, espresso and marionberries with a cashmere gliding finish which unfolded additional flavor profiles mirroring the nose. Juicy and bright, this was impeccably balanced with purity and a solid mineral backbone. Drinking well now, but will live on for many years. One of the better Cab Francs in this price range.

2008 Mackey Cabernet Sauvignon

2/14/2014 - VinLancaster wrote: NR

After a dozen hours of aeration, this vibrant Cabernet revealed bright acidic raspberries, dark chocolate covered aniseed and mandarin orange scents. Flavors of chocolate, molasses, Worcestershire sauce and rosemary infused grilled meats coated the tongue with a caramel feel. Rich and opulent, this cab has many years of life to evolve for the lingering finish continued to parade distinct complexities not noted earlier in the evening.
I’m holding my next bottle for at least 2 years.

I need to put a lock and key on this excellent Mourvedre, for I can’t resist getting into it. It keeps getting better with every bottle. This wine is spectacular and so far under the radar-- I regret typing every keystroke…

Slate coated black currants, blue and black bright fruit, vanilla and nutmeg aromas radiate from the glass. With big, soft vanilla in the mouth, the strawberry-black cherry spiced compote is neatly wrapped up. Lofty and layered on the finish. Shows a bit of heat, although, the balanced acidity keeps this in check. Nicely done.

Classic, stratified Barolo entering peak drinking window with notes of plum, allspice, rum soaked dried cherries, wild mushrooms, reduced soy with plenty of eucalyptus notes to go around. Firm on the abundant finish with peaks of drying red fruit and wooded tannins. Fantastic wine which continued to unfold over the course of the evening.

Round and ripe blue fruit, cinnamon, clay and leather on the initial nose leads to palate coating red and blue fruit flavors with mocha, coffee and vanilla oak. This easy drinking Merlot showed well on the long finish, but is just missing a few key aspects of personality for this price point.
