Acidity balances the rich flavors. I have one left and I’m not in a hurry. Surprised how good this $14.00 purchase from Garagiste is. |

Palate is not complex but has good concentration of ripe yellow fruit. I’ve purchased 65 bottles of various Lamy Saint Aubin from 1999-2020. I have 13 left. I had one tired bottle of En Remilly a few months ago. The other 51 consumed have been very good to excellent. Not one pre-moxed bottle. That said, I’m drinking up ‘07’s over the next couple of years. |

11/24/2022 - Gridrocker wrote: 92 pointsThe ‘07 Avonlea PN was outstanding. Vosne spice nose and palate with a bit of Gevrey meatiness on the palate. Needed every bit of the decant/2+ hours air. Kept gaining with air over the entire evening. Aging well, better than either ‘03 or ‘04 and a rival to the ‘05. |

Think of all the Lafon, Leflaive, Jadot....bottles that we pour down the drain. The big names should go to school here. |

Very ripe and rich palate without being clumsy. Great balance. Just yum. I would drink up over the next year if I had more. A great example of what white burg can be when not poxed. |

5/26/2018 - Gridrocker wrote: 90 pointsEvery now and then one hits that bottle that makes you think “whoa” that’s something when you put your nose in the glass. Textbook Vosne spice and a beautifully balance palate. Has enough tannin to stand up to grilled beef but I see no reason to age these. In a great place but no hurry. I long for the days of sub $30 village wine that actually were delivered by those who shall remain nameless. |

8/22/2015 - Gridrocker wrote: 92 points2nd bottle from auction lot. 1st was the worst fill (4cm) and was DOA (oxidized). Slow-O did not help on that one. This bottle (3.5cm), on the other hand, had the magic that I experienced from a bottle from another lot a couple of years ago. Lovely nose of strawberry upon opening so re-corked for later. Re-opened 3 hours later and drank over 6 hours. Started out with the strawberry nose and some rose. Red fruit and earth in the mouth. Soft and short initially, but then the magic begins. Puts on significant length and weight with air. The nose becomes so much more complex with nice spice. Acid emerges to balance the sweet, ripe fruit. Wonderful stuff. I will drink the rest over the next 2-3 years. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

3/15/2014 - Gridrocker wrote: 92 pointsI was concerned when I first opened this. More age on the nose than there should be. There was also a brett quality on the nose. Tasted much better than it smelled so I decanted. Significant throw and left 3/4" in the bottle. Wine improved over several hours. After 4-5 hours it was hitting on all cylinders. Very bright black and red fruit on the nose. The nose is penetrating with a bit of menthol. Tannin, acid and ripe fruit very well balanced on the palate. Will continue to improve but killer now with a fatty, charred steak. |

3/9/2014 - Gridrocker wrote: 93 pointsExcellent bottle. No resemblance to the flawed bottle of 3/2/14 (which the winery replaced immediately). I am usually averse to this level of alcohol (13.8%) but this wine pushes the ripeness to the edge without going over the line. Beautiful BALANCE. Reminded me of drinking '03 Chave and '03 SQN Papa side by side several years ago. Just so much going on, especially the aromas. Lots of black pepper on the finish. Do you find this review helpful? 3/2/2014 - Gridrocker wrote: flawedCork broke in half while removing. Very unpleasant. Hot, pruney, heavy, one-dimensional. Shared with a friend who will drink almost anything with alcohol in it and he only had one glass. I came back to this over several hours and the alcohol just intensified. I have gone through cases of '05 and '06 Sleepy Hollow and Westerly and LOVED them. I am hoping that this is a flawed bottle as I still have 5 more. |

11/3/2013 - Gridrocker wrote: 92 pointsMakes me long for the good old pre-premox days. Auction purchase. Good fill. Good cork. Some suspect sediment floating in the bottle. P & P. Bright, yellow/gold. Funky nose blew off quickly. WOW! Deep, rich, ripe, herbaceous, honeyed nose with tropical (botrytis) notes and vanilla and smoke. Full bodied. Viscous but with great acid spine. Ripe yellow fruit (peach/apricot) on palate. Medium finish. Drank over several hours with no fading. Terrific stuff. With a longer finish this could be mistaken for Grand Cru. |
