Really nice after pop and pour, offering floral, smoky aromatics and a ripe yet elegant palate of red and dark fruits, mineral, spice and oak. After about an hour in the decanter, the oak became a bit prominent on the finish. This could use some time to integrate and shed it's baby fat. Despite this, the wine still displayed good purity and maintained a seamless, middleweight mouthfeel.

Prominent matchstick, oak, and florals upon opening, with increasing mineral and acidity over time in the decanter. Sweet California fruit, with just the slightest hint of perceptible alcohol. Mouthfeel was first weighty and broad, tightening with air; perhaps missing the airy density of a Bâtard. Definitely hits the spot for this white Burg fan and offers excellent value.

Powerful nose with lots of secondary characteristics alongside orchard fruit and spice. Good weight to the palate. Loads of succulent fruit yet dry, saline, and lifted. This kept changing over the course of the night and held up in the glass for hours.

Not yet in its proper drinking window, but already offering a pretty floral nose and rich, round Suchots fruit on the darker end of the spectrum, balanced by good acidity. Loads of Asian spice on the nose and palate. Tannins are still prominent and could use some time to integrate.

Gorgeous, high-toned nose of red fruits, florals, herbs and spice. Lithe palate expressing great power, all within a well-delineated, graceful frame, with the dosage just rounding out the mouthfeel. Very impressive regardless of the vintage – I actually prefer this over the 2002 at this stage. The 2001 is more harmonious and integrated and is just so much more interesting on the nose.

Aromas of smoke, petrol, funk, and ripe fruits. Great balance between the creamy richness of the palate and electric acidity, creating that prickly mouthfeel characteristic of many off-dry Rieslings. Drinking very well right now.

Awesome mature white Burg. Great mushroomy tertiary character on the nose amongst pretty white fruits and florals. Mouthfeel has such tension between the copious, fat white fruit and integrated acidity – powerful yet weightless.

Spectacular nose of cherries, tobacco, mushroom, and clove. So elegant with more baking spices and red fruits and funk on the palate with largely resolved tannins. Such a pretty wine.

A musty note blows off after about an hour to reveal brambly, spicy fruit. Weightless and pure concentration of dark fruits with medium acidity. Reminiscent of Volnay in its structure but with a more generous mouthfeel. Compared to my last bottle, this seems to be shutting down.

Beautiful with tons of Ambonnay typicity. Powerful and generous but without any firmness or heaviness. Ripe strawberry palate, with moderate, well rounded acidity.

Started out linear and polished with strong acidity and grapefruit notes. After a few hours, this put on substantial weight and the palate grew savory and spicy. Very young but already showing great balance and integration. Excellent!

I agree with Charlie that the QPR might not quite be there, but this was still an impressive bottle. While perhaps lacking the midpalate depth of the big three, it just oozes character. Tense, with lots of spice and funk.
