Serious Langhe Nebbiolo. Dark fruited and quite intense for the classification. Black cherry, rose, spice, and dried herbs on the nose and palate. Finishes a touch bitter (though not in a bad way) and little warm. Tannins are overt, dusty, and remain restrained. Acidity is just about right. This is OK now but will benefit from a few years in the cellar. Give it 10 and it'll be great.

Lovely tropical fruit is cut with some apple and slate. Some sulphur too. In keeping with the vintage it's a little plusher and sweeter in style - leaning towards Auslese territory. I'd like a touch more zesty zip, but hey, it's damn tasty nevertheless.

My last bottle of this. Pop and pour. Lovely cool flavours dominated by red fruit, rose and earthy spices. Quite elegant on the palate with nice focus and length. Clean. Tannins resolving but still some nice grip. In a good place right now.

Excellent Bourgogne. Nice balance, with crunchy red berries, cherry and orange zest joined by some rocky detail and spice. Quite ethereal on the palate. Concentration, intensity and structure are good for the level. Drink now or over the next 5 years.

Diam. Lots of fruit sweetness on the nose and palate with red berries, cherry and some earthy truffle tones. Tannins are nothing much to speak of and acidity is very much enveloped in the fruit. Quite light, but very pleasant to drink. Perhaps will offer more tertiary characteristics over the next 5 years. If I was being picky, it's a little simple right now.

Classic Lapierre - jubey red berries, herbs and some granite-infused minerality. Not terribly concentrated - it's magenta in the glass - just really drinkable. Pure and clean.

The nose and palate are drenched with Granny Smith apples and slatey minerality with some lime and cinnamon. Great wine - true it's a little sweet for a kab, but there is excellent freshness and focus to provide balance.

Pop and pour. This was quite closed and would likely have benefited from a decent airing. Black fruit, bramble, liquorice: all surprisingly primary. While the tannins were quite broad-shouldered, they remained refined and quite elegant. Good length and acidity. While quite well-balanced, I feel it could do with some extended cellar time for further integration and uncoiling. An impressive wine that should continue to evolve for a good 7-10 years.

In a good place right now. Good complexity on the nose and palate with some tertiary flavours coming through: red and black fruit, blood and bone, bramble, liquorice and old leather. Medium body, medium concentration and a lovely spicy note on the finish. Tannins are resolved and well integrated. Drink now after a three hour slow ox or hold!

Drunk over 3 days. It benefited from a couple hours of air and held up well over the time it was opened. There were darker cherry and berry flavours and hints of earth, tobacco and mint. Tannins were lighter and glossier than the '10 Produttori Barbaresco drunk earlier in the week. Acidity and length were moderate. A great wine for its category and price. Should evolve nicely over the next 7-10 years, so worth having half a dozen in the cellar.

This didn't show well for the first couple of hours. It was very disjointed. However, like the 2012 bottles I've recently drunk, the elements started to integrate nicely and this ended up being a great bottle. Even better the second day. Once it had hit its stride, there were jubey red berries, cherry pit, orange zest, herbs and some earthy notes. As others have noted, this may not be the most complex or concentrated wine, but it's very tasty. Slow ox for a couple of hours before drinking!

Drunk over two days - overall, and not surprisingly, this is pretty closed and primary, but it's not so tight that a decent look in can't be achieved... and with pleasure! A lovely expression of young Barbaresco, offering sour cherry, raspberry and strawberry fruit with earth, mixed herbs and spices and some darker tones. Moderate intensity on the palate, which has a well-integrated acidic structure and is of medium length. Tannins are dusty and well within expectations for the 2010s. Not a lot of moment over the two days. Probably won't touch my other bottles for 5+ years. Lovely future ahead.

Fruit is taken from a north facing block planted on red volcanic soils in 1982. Very much from the new school of chardonnay in Australia: there is the sun ripened nutty richness that one would expect from a good season in the Yarra Valley, but this is nicely balanced by some lively, focused stone fruit and a twist of citrus. Quite a big wine, but it remains in check and not out of proportion. Good length. While drinking well now, I think this evolve for a number of years.

Drunk over two days. Plenty of black fruit, which dominates the foreground, accompanied by herbs and oak-derived tones in the background. Also an odd citrus note - like an overripe orange - that's unusual, but interesting. Medium intensity and weight. Acidity is appropriate and tannins quite round and approachable. Doesn't feel too manufactured or overripe, which is nice. Will drink well for 15 years.

Drunk over 3 days. Started out quite lean, showing more sour edged fruit with bramble and leaf flavours. The wine gained weight and depth over the following 2-3 hours and opened up nicely with cassis, cherry and dusty wood tones balancing the wine. Acidity was bright and well integrated and tannins were silky and playing a supporting role. The wine showed best on the second day suggesting a good 5-7 years of life ahead of it. While this will continue to evolve, I'm not sure it will actually improve that much. I'd err towards drinking now with a 2-3 hour decant.

Drunk after a 3 hour slow ox in bottle. A lovely classic left bank bouquet of cassis, plum, smoky cedar and fine minerals. While still holding a bit in reserve, this was quite open for five years of age, showing a moderate amount of fine but approachable tannins on the palate and nice freshness. Subtle oak notes should melt into the wine over time. Will last another 8-10 years, but drinking well now after some air time.

Nice citrus notes are the driving force here, with some stone fruit and a hint of tropical fruit rounding it out. Hint of wood. Plusher than I expected on the palate, which was round with a bit of fat. Cut with some good, minerally acids though. A little funky, in a good way. For < 20 bones, an excellent QPR.

Ripe, hedonistic Barossa shiraz. Clocks in at 15%. Waves of fruit lash the palate and there is a spirity oak presence. Chock full of flavour. Heartburn wine. While my palate has changed a lot since I last drank this in 2010, I think this was better as a younger wine. While good within its genre, you have to like the genre to like the wine. It's not for me.

Interesting wine. While there are some tropical notes in the background, this is more about grapefruit pith, chalky minerality and a hint of cut grass. Given that flavour profile, I was expecting something more steely on the palate. However, this was quite round and almost buttery, making me think this has had some lees stirring. It retains enough acidity to keep the wine in check. Ready to drink now.

Good looking cork, 2 hour decant. Cassis, cigarbox, licorice, graphite and other earthy tones waft right out of the bottle. Some floral notes too. The palate has opened up over the past 3 years and this is showing well, with good line, concentration and length. Tannins have mellowed and give the wine a silky mouthfeel. Excellent balance, classic Margaux.

Drinking pretty well now. Ripe red fruit on the nose which has some lovely floral (rose) and pine accents and some subtle oak and spice notes. Quite silky across the palate with plenty of weight. Acidity levels are just about right and the tan is are supple and approachable. Drunk over two nights - the second was the best. Will easily evolve for 10 years.

Very perfumed and bright nose of juicy red fruit, rose water, stems, hung meat and earth. Plenty of structure on the palate which shows ripe fruit counteracted by a strong stemmy character. Tannins are dusty and there is good acidic cut. Not a lot of fat here - more sappy and lifted. It's quite pretty now but will benefit from a further 6-10 years in the cellar.

From a 375 mL. Given 2 hours of air before drinking. Serious juice for a village. Nose is a complex combination of red fruit, wet earth, iron and meat. Palate lives up the nose, which initially presents the sweeter fruit followed by the savoury elements. Quite plush in the mouth, which hints at the vintage, and length is impressive. All the elements are there, but it still needs time to melt together. The quality and substance of the extract reminds me of the old fashioned Wendouree wines that are a national treasure from the Clare Valley. Lovely.
