4/19/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Does not like this wine: 75 pointsFrom the magnum, overripe, hot, notes of dried fruit and rum pot. There is a distinct lack of freshness, the alcohol is warming. A bottle without joy. |

1993 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling AusleseMosel Saar Ruwer more |
4/19/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 96 pointsThis Auslese was the potion of the gods. Over 30 years old, and then so clear, powerful, complex and brought into complete harmony with perfect acidity. Cool, energetic, mouthwatering, the sweetness largely reduced; with a very, very long finish. |

2018 Pierre Boisson Meursault Les Grands CharronsChardonnay more |
4/17/2024 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 91 pointsPierre Boisson's 2018 Meursault Les Grand Charrons is a classic Meursault with a slight reduction at the beginning, slightly salty-smoky minerality, clarity and a fine phenolic grip. Rather white-fruity, but the music is determined by the mineral vein. Medium length 91/100 2024-2031 |

2018 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru SéchetChardonnay more |
4/17/2024 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 89 pointsthe typicity as a Chablis was positive, the chalky minerality was recognisable, but ultimately it was a little too undefined and not precise enough for me. I'm not quite sure where the bitter notes and phenolics at the back come from. Perhaps thicker skins because of the sun? I generally love the wines from Dauvissat, but this bottle didn't quite pick me up. 89/100 2024-2030 |

2018 Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Jus des Hauts des VignesChardonnay more |
4/17/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 96 pointsExpressive, full-bodied, juicy and at the same time complex and superbly balanced. The wine has body, a fine, silky texture and very good aromatic depth. The ripe acidity is perfectly dimensioned, holds everything together and balances the wine perfectly. Aromatically a mixture of lemontarte with a shortcrust pastry base and rather yellow, partly exotic fruits: Stone fruit, pineapple, jackfruit. A hint of butter from the wood. The wine has fat and body, but also plenty of freshness and elegance. 96/100 2024-2040 |

2017 Envinate Ribeira Sacra Lousas Parcela SeoaneMencía more |
3/26/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 93 pointsWhat a lovely surprise! Almost pure Mencia from 80-year-old vines from the single plot "Seoane". Now that it has matured a few years, it's even more fun! This clearly scratches the "great wine" category (>=95). Cool, dark and deep attack. Very pure-toned, slatey cool and stony. In addition to the clear, cool black-blue fruit, the wine lives from its cool fruit, its freshness and good freshness. There is nothing heavy, but cool elegance |

2019 Carl Loewen Riesling 1896Mosel Saar Ruwer more |
2/6/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 98 pointsThis Riesling comes from ungrafted vines. Pressed just like in great grandpa's time. All the grapes are harvested, the grapes are crushed in the vat with the feet while still in the vineyard so that the juice is released and maceration begins. In the evening, pressing begins with an old basket press and the must is poured into the "Fuder" barrel without sedimentation. Sponta fermentation and the wine remains on the lees until the following summer. The barrel dates from 1960 and no longer releases any wood aromas. There is exactly 1 barrel of this unique wine grown on red slate. |

2016 Bernhard Huber Sommerhalde SpätburgunderBaden more |
1/21/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 93 pointsClear, piquantly fresh nose with radiance; predominantly red fruit and some cassis with subtle spice, a hint of pepper. The fresh impression of the bouquet is fully confirmed on the palate, the acidity is animating. The wine shows density, fruity coolness and punch without heaviness. The wine shows good structure and aromatic clarity with fine tannins. Similar to a light Athenian, little fat on the ribs, but plenty of energy going forward. Bright red fruit, sour cherries, red currants, a hint of mint. Harmonious, balanced, refreshing and with a good length. |

2016 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les SuchotsPinot Noir more |
1/21/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 95 pointsThe bouquet is cool and quite restrained at the beginning - a longer aeration (6 hours in the bottle) would certainly have had a positive effect here. With a little patience and a swirl of the large Burgundy glass, the depth of the wine becomes more and more apparent - quite magnificent! Cool, very clear and pure, rather dark berry, black cherries, dark rocky notes and the classic Vosne spice come through. The palate is extremely pure, focused and the depth and energy cast a spell over you. Powerful, dense, cool and mineral and core. The lively acidity - supported by a very noble tannin structure - blends in perfectly. Aromatically a mirror image of the impressions of the nose, rather dark fruit aromas, black cherries as well as noble, mineral-earthy spice aromas. A really great, typical Les Suchots that is only at the very beginning of a long life of enjoyment. |

2020 Esmeralda Garcia MichikoVino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Verdejo more |
12/23/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 94 pointsWhat a great verdejo, matured under flor yeasts. The nose is complex, animating, fragrant, aromatic: salt marshes, sea breeze, fennel seeds, a hint of aniseed, white fruit, salt lemons, salted nuts. Wonderfully structured on the palate, clear, precise, the ageing under flor yeasts is clear, reminiscent of great fino sherries, white fruit, lightly salted nuts, fennel seed again and a hint of aniseed, salted lemon, chalky minerality, the wine is dense, very dry, clear and with animating acidity, which is well balanced by a delicate phenolic. The wine comes from ancient vines from times before the phylloxera plague. A great wine with a lot of individual character and depth. |

1982 Château Duhart-MilonPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
12/13/2023 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 93 pointsStill a wonderful, classic Bordeaux with plenty of tobacco notes, coniferous forest floor, a little mocha, remnants of a dark berry fruit, noble saddle leather and graphite; appears dark overall and rather cool in its flavour. The tannins are fine-grained and now very polished, the acidity is medium+ and very harmonious. A truly classic, excellently matured Pauillac, good bottles of which show plenty of complexity, balance and a beautiful length. |

12/13/2023 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 92 pointsA very nice Sauvignon Blanc from a good bottle, ripe, balanced and harmonious. The nose shows remnants of white-yellow fruit, hay, white tea and a clear but not intrusive flinty aroma. On the palate a vital, ripe acidity, medium body, expressive in flavour, but not loud, very harmonious and with a medium+ length. |

2014 Peter Jakob Kühn Riesling SchlehdornRheingau more |
12/6/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe 14er Schlehdorn does not quite have the class of the 2013er (97 points) Nevertheless, this is a very strong Riesling. Typical PJK with a beautiful mellowness, a bright herbal aroma, yellow stone fruit flavours and a beautiful, strong but ripe acidity. The wine shows body, the rather oxidative ageing in wood (as far as I know "Stückfass") and the BSA. Burgundian in style, beautiful length. |

12/6/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Does not like this wine: 85 pointsI am surprised by the good reviews. My bottle (352/1000) was brittle, expressionless and uncharming both on opening and with hours of aeration. The only plus was the good acidity. There was no obvious cork defect. I still have one bottle, I'm curious to see if it's better. |

2021 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg Cuvée Ste. CatherineAlsace Grand Cru more |
11/9/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 95 points2021 Riesling Schlossberg GC Cuvee Ste. Catherine. The wine comes from vines that are around 70 years old, from the middle part of the vineyard. For me, the most complete wine from the current collection. Already deep, intense and clear as a bell on the nose. The high minerality can already be smelled in the form of flinty, smoky notes. The palate is also intense, full-bodied and rich. At the same time, it has a lot of tension, enormous minerality, salinity and a well-defined acidity that makes the wine animating, juicy and fresh despite its intensity. The fruit shows yellow stone fruit, some tropical hints and dried herbs. However, the rhythm of this intense and complex wine is determined by the mineral beat. 96/100 2023-2050 |

11/9/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 93 points2021 Gewürztraminer Furstentum GC - what freshness and intensity. This wine also impresses with its clarity and purity. Orange blossom, roses, lilies, lime marmalade. Also rich, intense and juicy on the palate. With absolutely convincing freshness, pressure and a slight saltiness that goes wonderfully with the enormous fruit and medium acidity. Intense, but not heavy, this is an ideal accompaniment to Munster cheese, strong pâtés or slightly spicy Indian cuisine. 93/100 2024-2040 |

2009 Mathilde et Yves Gangloff Côte-Rôtie La Serene NoireSyrah more |
7/27/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 92 pointsDrunk in direct comparison with Chaves 2009 Hermitage. Perhaps it was this company that made me a little disappointed with the wine. It has plenty of good potential, an expressive nose with dark fruit, sweet spice, herbal sugar and blue flowers. The palate is dense, with lots of melting and velvety round tannins. The acidity is medium to medium+ And basically sufficient. It's all very good, but lacks a bit of clarity and definition for me. The wine is like a big, round teddy bear, you can cuddle it, but you notice that it has power and weighs quite a bit. |

2009 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave HermitageSyrah more |
7/27/2023 - MQuentel@web.de Likes this wine: 100 pointsWhat a classic in perfection, the archetype of its origin. Nothing is made up, done or operated on the wine, this is grown world class. Already in the nose aristocratic, slightly undercooled, but fine elegance; dark, earthy and fine spicy aromas, combined with a black-red fruit and noblest tobacco leaves (not a bit sweet or perfumed). The palate is fully convincing with an excellent structure, the perfect definition and balance. The wine combines depth, transparency and a persistence without any heaviness. The noble acidity, pulled as if on a string, and the perfect tannins, absolutely fine-grained and precise - all this gives me goose bumps. A perfect, classic Syrah with the style and elegance of a great Burgundy. This wine makes you turn in on yourself, it radiates calm, elegance and dignity. A truly great wine that can be enjoyed now with 12 hours of light aeration; but ultimately is only at the beginning of a very long life. Perfect stuff that only goes differently, but not better. 100/100 2023-2050 |

7/27/2023 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 89 points3 years ago I was very excited about this intense stuff that brought an expressive fruit and enough freshness in glass. Currently, it has weakened somewhat, the freshness is reduced, the aromas broader and the alcohol stronger. Either you drink it now quickly out or - and I bet on it - this will again in 5-10 years, when the wine develops tertiary aromas in a completely different way an exciting substance. Currently 89/100 |
