3/22/2017 - Spl232 wrote: 94 pointsStarted a little muted, and needed a couple of hours to open up (did not decant), but eventually became a very enjoyable experience. Still very much a fruit driven wine... surprised that the white pepper note wasn't very prominent. |

10/22/2016 - Spl232 wrote: 86 pointsKind of disappointing. From a Magnum, the wine was much more reticent than expected from other tasting notes. Might have needed more time to open up, but after 3 hours, it still lacked much depth or expression. |

5/23/2016 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 88 pointsDefinitely a drink now. The tannins are gone and the acid is almost gone... the wine isn't flabby but it's close. The flavors are rich and deep (dried red and black fruit, organic earth, leather, rose petals) but structurally this wine wasn't made to live much longer. |

3/14/2016 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 91 pointsFrom a Magnum, I was very worried about this one once I removed it from the cellar and realized the cork was completely soaked thru. However, I was able to remove it in one piece (thanks Durand), and the wine seemed to be okay. After about 2 hours, the funk blew off and a very lovely mature Napa cab emerged. Dark fruits (blackberry, black currant), cocoa powder, some earthy notes (leather and forest floor). The tannins are gone and the wine doesn't have too much acid left, but it held up well over the entire night (about 6 hours... I didn't decant and there was minimum sediment so I was glad I didn't). |

12/9/2015 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 91 pointsStill very young. Slow ox-ed for 8 hours and was still a little tight when we poured the first glass (was drinking well after another hour left open in the bottle). Dark black fruit, organic earth, a soy-sauce-like umami note. The oak and tannins are starting to resolve, but this will benefit from more time. |

11/18/2015 - Spl232 wrote: 84 pointsOpened with a combination of strong forest floor and sweet stewed fruit notes. Decanted for 2 hours and the wine balanced out. Not a particularly impressive wine considering the vintage and bottle age, but the cork also showed signs of potential improper storage (although nothing off on the palate except maybe a slightly more oxidative than I'd expect). Probably won't improve much, but no hurry to drink either. |

10/16/2015 - Spl232 wrote: 91 pointsThis wine is shutting down a bit. Still has some lively oregon pinot notes and complexity, but not as expressive as the couple bottles open upon release. There is energy in this wine, but I'm going to wait a year+ on all of my remaining bottles. |

10/29/2015 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 93 pointsWhat a fun wine... definitely has the sangio body (elevated acid and tannins) and fruit profile (red fruit and dried flower petals), but had a new world boldness. I have had plenty of New world sangio that just doesn't maximize on the varietal, but this one is very smartly made. The tannins have softened and this is ready to drink, but there is absolutely no hurry and will likely continue to improve for at least another 3-5 years. |

10/6/2015 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 86 pointsI stupidly opened this one without reading my own note. I don't agree with the folks that say this one is ready to go. Three hours open and this is still super super tight. The tannins have softened, but seems like a lot of energy in this wine that still needs another couple years. Wish I had buried this bottle in my cellar, because I think this will be a very elegant yet powerful wine... Just not mature yet. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/17/2015 - Spl232 wrote: 87 pointsFrom a 375. Still needs a lot more time... the new oak on this one is still very front and center. Vanilla, baking spice are primary on the nose with earthy, coffee and dark fruit notes lingering behind. Drinking fine after 2 hours in the decanter, but for my taste preference, I'd wait another 5 years minimum on this one. |

3/28/2015 - Spl232 Likes this wine: 92 pointsPretty good cork considering the age. Opened 2 hours prior to consuming and continued to improve until around hour 3/4. Still had lots of life left. The tannins are still very present but in a pleasant way. The wine still had a core of red fruit and blackberry. Some brett and earthy, forest floor notes. A very fun 45 year old wine. |

1/26/2015 - Spl232 wrote: 82 pointsStill don't understand the high ratings for this wine. I will admit that I prefer Oregon pinots that lean more Burgundian style than New world/California, but this wine just won't balance out. For this bottle, we opens about an hour and a half before drinking and the first thing on the nose was alcohol. On teh palate, the heat was much less noticable and the wine had some typical RedHills notes, black cherry, red cherry, blackberry, cola, bacon fat, but certainly not worth the price and I don't expect marked improvement with time. |
