5/7/2013 - JimmyV wrote: 92 pointsThis bottle embodies why I will not be sorry to see Antonio Galloni take leave of his California Pinot Noir duties at The Wine Advocate. He seems to capture the flavors and style of this wine quite well in his written notes wherein he writes: “bursts from the glass with super-ripe red fruit, pomegranate, cola, flowers and spices. A juicy, forward Pinot,…” but then he assigns it a score of 86 points. Does his description sound like an 86 point wine? Clearly he has a bias against juicy Pinots that burst from the glass. I do not. Greg Walters describes the same flavor profile, and awards a score of 93. Josh Raynolds likewise admires this style in general and this wine in particular as evidenced by his score of 92 points. I would add a note of flowery prose, except that I really have nothing more to add to Walters’ note. I think he nailed it, though I agree with Raynold’s numerical assessment. Regardless, somewhere in the 91-93 range is about right. 86 points is insultingly low. |

6/19/2012 - JimmyV Does not like this wine: 82 pointsFalls below what I would want in even an "entry level" Champagne. More akin to a Proseco. Too sweet with no yeasty complexity. Maybe good for a quick toast at a wedding of non-winos. But that's about it. |

2010 Isabel Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon RoséSonoma County more |
11/19/2011 - JimmyV Does not like this wine: 80 pointsThe rest of the Mondavi clan should sue to get its good name back. This is a soul-less wine that shows off none of the varietal's core characteristics. Personally, I do not think that Cabernet makes a good foundation for rose, and this did nothing to change that opinion. |

11/19/2011 - JimmyV Does not like this wine: 78 pointsPretty much everything that is wrong with low end Sauvignon Blanc. Smelled of cat pee, if the cat had just eaten asparagus. A lazy effort. |

11/19/2011 - JimmyV Does not like this wine: 78 pointsBarely discernable as "wine". More like a wine cooler made from Strawberry Jolly Rancher candy. Only useful as diversion to serve to those who put ice in their wine while you drink the good stuff. |

5/26/2011 - JimmyV wrote: 89 pointsAs with the previous bottle, a bit thin and lacking the excitement one would hope for from a luxury producer. Not a bad wine, but one that drinks like a wine that should sell for half the price. |

10/6/2010 - JimmyV wrote: 89 pointsWhile I was impressed by the <14% alcohol, I found this to be rather thin. Not off-tasting in any way. But certainly not as concentrated and vibrant as I would want a wine at this price point to be. Reminded me of a well made commercial effort like Sterling, Silverado or Raymond. |

7/12/2010 - JimmyV wrote: NRProbably should not have been released. I knew of the smoke taint before buying and opening, and was looking at this as a learning experience. I did not tell my wife about any of this as I wanted her unblemished opinion. After two glasses, she said: "I don't usually say this about wines that you buy, but I really don't like this at all." I asked her to describe what she didn't like and she nailed it. Charred, smokey, bitter and really lacking in fruit. |

11/11/2009 - JimmyV wrote: 80 pointsMiserable wine. Not flawed, thus the score exceeds the 70's range. But unrecognizable as a Cabernet blend. Harsh and one dimensional. Reminds me of a failed attempt at home wine making. |

9/20/2008 - JimmyV wrote: 78 pointsI found this to be undrinkable. As a sparkling wine, this was varietally incorrect. Served blind, I would have sworn this was a Bellini, or that some fruit syrup had been added to the wine. This had the complexity of a wine cooler. |

2/8/2008 - JimmyV wrote: 92 pointsOpens with a nice Pinot funk, which alone differentiates it from most newcomers. Cherry cola, strawberry, roses and tea bring layers of complexity to a wine that is more than just fruit and oak. Very well made and a screaming bargain. |

8/2/2007 - JimmyV wrote: 93 pointsGetting better. Really enjoyed my previous bottle, but this was a step up from that. Pinot the way Pinot is supposed to be. Red fruit, balanced acidity. Not cloying or syrupy in the least. A wonderful style and a far cry from too many new blueberry syrup Pinot wannabes. |
