Almost a year since my only other bottle and I like it even more this time. Appearance unchanged. The bouquet is just beautiful with lots of flowers, fruit, earth, wood, bacon, and pepper. Concentrated and plush on the palate with a clean, long finish, only marred by a bit of overreach from the alcohol. Really much more Paso-like than OR/WA, and there's nothing wrong with that. Seems to be performing in its prime age-wise, and I wish I had more in the cellar. 5+12+17+8=92

Notes on second half of a bottle that was opened yesterday.
Very dark purple ink color, fine and abundant sediment. Unfortunately, this really turned poorly overnight and the bouquet went stewy and borderline port-ish.
The energy and snap it had yesterday is gone and the flavors come across as muddled and flat. If scoring, 91-92 range on day 1, 86-87 range on day 2. Really a dramatic decline with the slow-O, so I would recommend just getting this in your glass within a few hours of opening.

Notes after following for 24 hrs open. Almost fully opaque dark purple color, very slow and lightly tinted legs, modest sediment.
Bouquet was wrapped up very tight for the first few hours except for a high dose of Zippo lighter fluid, eventually displaying bold blackberry and currant, violets, bright spices and a bit of flinty sulphur. Petit Verdot and the other Bordeaux grapes used are definitely in play here.
Palate is big, luscious, and ripe. Backed up with long and firm tannins, this may deserve another few years to reach its prime. Considering the pedigree, price, and future potential, this seems pretty fair on the QPR side of things. 4+12+16+8=90

Still drinking in perfect form. Sleek and smooth with nice cocoa and cherry highlights. Clean and pure, no sediment or chewy tannins so I'm thinking this would be great with some cheesecake. Or, of course, always great with a smoke. Just shows that domestic Petite Sirah can hang with some of the best Portugese wines. 5+11+18+9 = 93

Very light ruby red color, almost rose'. Clear and shimmery.
Light aroma of crushed leaves and dried cherries. The palate is just like biting into an almost ripe cherry - a little bit sour and grippy - just like a village Burg should be. Alas, in a display of pedigree and varietal, there is a lot of nuance in the background through the finish. More time should also bring out more secondary notes and in a year or so, I think the harshness will temper into a more savory experience. 5+9+14+8 = 86

Very light gold hue, bright and shiny.
Medium-powered nose invokes apple, lemon, honeydew, white grapefruit, schist and limestone. Very little, if any sign of wood.
Creamy and full, a bit hot, but overall I think this is a wonderful interpretation of Chardonnay from a Macon point of view. I also perceive low-ish acidity but it seems offset by the minerality and body. Chablis, without the "cut". And at the $16 level, a very good deal.

Patience may or may not be it's own reward but it sure helped this wine out. It's been two years since my other tasting and 9 months since anyone has noted here, but this wine has really come around.
Still quite a cloudy cranberry red, about 60% opaque. Profound nose of crushed berry and autumn leaf, roses, mushroom, damp earth funk, and strawberry. It just kept building and developing over the 3 hours of tasting. The palate has emerged with cohesion and harmony compared to how it was two years ago. Regarding the slight green medicinal note, I find it adds some interest as opposed to distraction at this stage. Maybe the most interesting wine I've tried this year. Those of you that waited, I hope you enjoy as much as I did today. 3+13+17+7 = 90

Notes made after 2 days open. Color is dark magenta, quick legs, no sediment.
The nose has a touch of medicinal and chemical elements, but in a good way as they are tertiary notes to the primary bouquet of red berry, mint, and jasmine tea. Smooth body and gentle mouthfeel with very refreshing acidity and even though it changed very little overnight, I think the overall structure has seen its apex and it's "the sooner the better" on this. Awesome with a spicy pesto chicken sausage pizza. 5+11+16+7= 89

Light to medium straw color, very vibrant and fine mousse.
Tropical lime, kiwi, and granadilla aromas, light intensity.
The sweetness of the Chenin is front and center but there's quite an array of elements to be found in the bouquet and on the palate. A small note of barley/rice comes through on the finish which I think would lend it to pair nicely with sushi. What really makes it work is a great structure deploying generous acidity and a pinch of earthy minerality. Something this sweet could easily fall into cold duck category if not for the solid backbone and secondary notes in the flavor profile.
60% Chenin Blanc -30% Chardonnay - 10% Pineau d'Aunis.
A good one for your resident wine geek. 5+9+16+8= 88

From 375ml. My last try of this was 4 years ago? Shame on me. Wonderful wine. Elegant and light texture for a VP but plenty of delicious cherry, apricot, marmalade, mocha, and candy spices like cinnamon and vanilla. Seductive, suave, and sexy and never overbearing. Fine with food or fume (I chose the latter with a 5 Vegas Ultimate stogie). 5+12+18+8= 93

Still needs a good hour or so of air to come alive but when it does, what a great little beast it is. I say beast because the alcohol is quite prominent, but the broad and deep palate of fruit makes it quite charming, even if in a New World style. Throw in the low tariff and you've got yourself a winner.

For the first several hours, I was thinking, "well, it was only $10 a bottle". Then I pull it up on CT and I see that I paid >$22!. Oh well. Nevertheless, I don't score based on price.
Very dark, hazy ruby color with a thin meniscus. No sediment and slow, clear legs.
Confectioners sugar, cherry pie, tomato, rubbing alcohol, and lots of oak in the bouquet. Undistinguishable from Menage a Trois or Apothic Red except for price. Very light tannins, low acidity, and massive burn on the mouth and throat. Kept half for the next day and all that seemed to happen was a loss of any attraction that it did have. Thankfully, I only bought two and will give the other away to my friend's punk band. they'll love it. 4+8+12+5= 79

A very pale gold color with an abundant and persistent fizz. The bouquet eludes to a Blanc de Blanc profile with some sea spray and citrus pith contributing to the mix. The nose is certainly more generous than expected at this price point. Light to medium body, firm acidity. There is a nice, sauvage-style grip on the palate that stems from perceived stone and mineral character. Quite clean, steady, and composed through the finish so I think there may be more to love about this after it sleeps for a bit. 5+11+15+7= 88

Better than expected and seemed to be still drinking at peak. Followed over 3 days open with little noticeable change.
Very light straw color with average radiance.
Grassy and tropical fruit aromas. Medium-big body. Minerality is present but not firm. Acidity balances well with the fruit and gives enough drive to cut through a nice picatta or marsala sauce. I give the palate extra marks for delivering a broad cocktail of papaya, melon, citrus, guava, etc to contemplate without resorting to simple grapefruit peel and tomcat spray. Quite enjoyable and I could see myself giving this a try in future vintages as a house regular. 4+11+17+7 = 89

Notes made on bottle that was open for 24 hrs.
Color is dark ruby with a slight brick tinge, about 80% opaque with quick clear legs and no sediment.
Profound aroma starts at a distance with a touch of maple and then quickly transitions to red berry and flower notes. Underneath are savory spices and a little green herb. Light-medium body with a gentle entry and cool mouthfeel. Good depth and more complexity than expected at the $-point. Development really took off after about 2 hours open, so a good splash decant seems reasonable.
Clean, medium length finish. I don't really find anything to not like here. 5+11+16+8 = 90

Wow, has this taken a turn for the better over the last 2-3 years. Popped n' poured. Notes after the first hour.
Dark ruby core with lighter garnet at the edge. Brilliant sheen and clear body with heavy bottle and neck sediment.
Profound currant, cherry and dark fruit-driven bouquet, tertiary notes of roasted nuts, flowers and perfume. Silky and mature texture. The acidity and tannins just grab your cheeks and let all that beautiful fruit squeeze through. I still get a touch of that lovely WA lavender sugar on the palate. Finish is long and graceful. Fully resolved and ready to go over the next couple years. So glad to have 2 more to share with friends. Reduces the guilt of savoring this one acapella. WOTYTD 5+13+17+8 = 93

Followed for three days open. Dark ruby color with very slow, clear legs and a tiny bit of sediment. The nose was all bramble (which I like) and lighter fluid on the first night. The fruit component also had just a hint of stewed prunes and maybe extra sulfur when first opened. By nights 2 and 3, the bouquet had settled into a nice cassis-blackberry smoothie with top notes of white pepper and tobacco. The palate delivers on the ripe and warm side of the spectrum. The alcohol can't be ignored but it does seem to mitigate with food. In general, I find this quite food-friendly as far as Cali Cabs go. Decent acidity and really gentle tannins.
The finish is medium to long, very clean and focused and I would expect some positive development in the coming year. Drink with thorough aeration or hold. 4+11+16+8 = 89

Well I killed these 3 bottles off in pretty short order. This one was definitely better than the other two (#2 was corked) which may indicate that a good rest after shipping helps this wine out. This was quite lovely with a good balance of tart & ripe, acidity & dust, clean & persistent. So, some bottle variation but when it's good, it's good. Even the sparkling mousse on this bottle seemed broader and more vibrant than the other two. Sometimes, ya just gotta buy six ;)

Wow. This is like a black pepper milkshake upon opening. I'll report back tomorrow after it, hopefully, sheds some of the extra spices.
Day 2: pepper is still prominent but has dialed down a notch to include some green herb and Syrah funk. Based on the aroma, I expected more of a tart Quatre Saisons on the palate, rather than a NW fruit basket. But it actually is smooth and sweet with interesting notes that spark all the Cab Franc, Mourvedre, and Grenache receptors in my brain. I'm sure this isn't even close to whatever the blend is here, but it is different and funky. Hard to judge and although it was tamer on day 2, it was also more generic and lost some of it's character. A wine to spark some conversation, maybe like a Cornelissan.

Did not decant. Notes after 4 hours open. Dark ruby color with a thin garnet rim. Very slow, clear legs. No sediment.
The nose has light bursts of primary cassis, plum, cherry, and licorice with lower level floral notes. Around the two hour mark, garden herbs made a welcome addition. The palate is suitably juicy with acidity and balanced with light, rustic tannins. Excellent for a good range of cuisine. Alcohol seems perfectly in check to me, and I'm kinda picky about that. The finish is not super long, but does give up some great extra nuance at the very end. 4+11+16+9 = 90

Pretty, light gold color with a vibrant and broad mousse. Consistent to other reviews as far as yeast, apple, and lemon rind in the bouquet and palate. I sense a taut structure that I would wager becomes more generous in a year or two. Feel like it's holding back something so I plan to wait several months before trying again. If my sense is right, I see 2-4 more points in the future. 5+10+14+8=87

I had the same experience as topper noted on 3/12; mainly, a bitter and reductive component that contradicted the sugars and acidity. Followed for several days open and it never improved for my taste. Hopefully, age will be kind to it because I wasn't too happy about how this bottle showed this week. I typically like Chenin sweet wines with cake and pie style desserts. This one goes better with salty cheeses, imo.
