11/4/2017 - frebro Likes this wine: 90 pointsNaaah...popped and poured. Too young. Green peas, smokey cherry notes with some black pepper. Nose is plummy nail polish. Nice enough but unimpressive. |

10/15/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 91 pointsTo me, this is just brilliant! Lovely smoky flint yet rich, almost viscous mouthfeel yet no trace of oiliness, just very fresh. Some tropical fruit, a touch of licorice, pleasant minerality. I'm sure this will develop into something much smoother, fuller and more polished-but I really enjoy it young like this. Hint of tartness and a promise of a bright future. |

9/11/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 86 pointsPromising, but too young, still tart and closed. Flint and citrus on the nise. Minerals and hard acidity in the mouth. Give this another eight to ten years! |

2005 Léon Beyer Riesling Cuvée des Comtes d'EguisheimAlsace more |
9/20/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis is very difficult to convey; Leon Beyer is an outstanding producer of exquisite wines. I admire their skill, I adore their restrained style. But they sometimes make wine that is too subtle...this is one. It's just...too good! Perfectly balanced, lovely mouthfeel, enhances the food but fails to leave an impression of its own. Goes with the food like water...seamlessly, discreet, restrained. I could rate this much higher, but I won't-because it's no fun if the wine just fades into the background. |

9/20/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 86 pointsPromising colour, nose is rich w honeyed nuts, toast and grapefruit. Mousse is nice, mouthfeel creamy. On the palate the early phase is excellent w mature, rich Notes of nuts, red and yellow apple, slight minerality and nice but subdued citrus and maybe tropical fruit. Unfortunately, the wine just whimpers out, no lingering worth mentioning-thus no great complexity to lift the spirit. Short-lived but pleasant. Good effort. |

4/24/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 88 pointsNice but not quite as rich as I expected. Young? Alchol burns through in a way I usually don't notice in ports. |

4/24/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 88 pointsInteresting white wine, make sure it's not too chilled. Nice w some cheeses. Nose is a little tropical w some minerals. Palate is nuanced w a rewarding depth, I enjot the complexity of this wine. Lychee, nettles, herbs, sime waxy notes and fine acidity. I'll a few more bottles, this may develop into an even more intersting wine w time-but might as well just collapse, hard to tell. |

2010 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Langhe RossoLanghe DOC Nebbiolo Blend, Nebbiolo more |
3/15/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 84 pointsNose w some rather acidic notes and bite from the alcohol that I wouldn't expect at 13%. Rather shy on the nose at first, mostly dark berries, cherry and a tiny note of spicy leather. Violets. Body i medium, wine is very fruity and silky smooth to drink, will probably age fairly ungracefully as there's not a whole lot of complexity, nor structure. Jammy and starting to maderise. Perfectly all right to drink now, but I doubt if this will improve at all w further cellaring. |

3/7/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 91 pointsLovely creaminess and lively mouthfeel w aromas of brioche, red citrus, some almond and yellow apples. Charming stuff, drink now - I doubt if this will improve much by further aging. Bottle about two years in cellar. |

NV Jacques Selosse InitialChampagne Grand Cru Chardonnay more |
3/7/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 87 pointsMuch too young. Very lively mousse initially, then dissipates surprisingily quickly - I can't recall having seven snyting like it before. It's been years since I last tasted this wine, didn't make a lasting impression then. This time, I like it better. Powerful body, heavily oaked but harmonious. Autolytic and rich. Lots of aromas that need more time to develop-bottle disgorged june 14, so I'll wait a few years until next tasting. Very promising. |

NV David Leclapart Champagne Premier Cru L'Artiste Blanc de Blancs Pas Dosé TrépailChardonnay more |
3/7/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 88 pointsStill young, rather closed but w potential to age well and develop further. Complex palate, nice balance and not over-oaked. Drunk at tasting, will likely be even more enjoyable w food. Floral, nutty minerals and fairly creamy. Mouthfeel is smooth, mousse is a little weak. |

1/31/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 90 pointsNose seems to be closing down at this time. Some flinty oakiness and a whiff of tropical fruit and floral notes, then it seems to shut down. Mouthfeel as always really satisfying w creaminess, lovely intense mousse and crisp acidity. Structure. Palate is oaky, long, complex. Lingers for minutes. |

1/31/2015 - frebro wrote: 82 pointsAutolytic nose w green apples and pear. Mousse sort of crude. Mouthfeel a little sluggish. Palate fairly straightforward w apple notes and notmuch else. Acidity subdued at first, then lingers too long. Not bad, just fails to excite. |

2006 Louis Latour Corton-Clos de la Vigne au SaintCorton Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
1/9/2015 - frebro Likes this wine: 87 pointsDiscreet wine, really well balanced and nose is pleasantly complex w flintsmoke, dark fruits and intriguing leathery-peppery notes. Palate is seamlessly integrated and the wine does not surprise, but w a meal it really works. Subtle, nuanced, everything you look for in a wine (including an acidity that works well w fattier foods, enjoyable hints of maturity w a nice body of fruitiness intact). I enjoyed the smokiness. |

12/25/2014 - frebro wrote: 89 pointsLovely as always, but this bottle had some issues. Mid-palate dominated by a bubble gum aroma that hid the complexity you notice early and late on the palate. Not defect, I think, just bottle variation. |

12/14/2014 - frebro Likes this wine: 90 pointsLovely nuttiness and good complexity for a NV. This is 2009 base and coming together beautifully by now. Overall impression is precision, a focused wine. Really well made. Mouthfeel is creamy, mousse is fine, nose is slightly oaky w red citrus and almonds. Palate is rich, lingering brioche, grapefruit, nuts and yellow autmn apples. Recommended. |

12/1/2014 - frebro Likes this wine: 92 pointsAnother lovely treat from Vilmart. This is a creamy, nutty, raspberry-brioche explosion. Irresistible. Seems these wines mature sooner than expected, my cellaring is less than optimal I guess- too warm. Not a problem, I'm delighted that I must drink the other bottles fairly soon. |

2007 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée RéservéeRed Rhone Blend more |
12/1/2014 - frebro Likes this wine: 89 pointsStill young and rather closed. Less body and much lighter than expected. Acidity noticeable but well integrated. The wine is well balanced and pleasantly fresh. Nose is red and dark fruits, some flint and gunpowder. Herbal and some grassy aromas. Violets. Palate is similar w more pronounced violets and unfortunately a fair bit of terpene-like geranium notes as well. Likely to improve by cellaring over at least the next 6-10 years. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
