2007 Tenuta di Arceno Valadorna di Arcanum Toscana IGTSuperTuscan Blend more |
3/11/2013 - rfm9882 Likes this wine: 94 pointsReally nice. Drinking wonderfully and while it will probably be fine to sit on for 5+ years I enjoyed tasting and smelling it change throughout a long evening. To start, it was soft and elegant with chocolate covered blueberries but later on it was more high-toned cherry fruit with a crisp edge. The whole time it had a wonderful old world perfume. Open now to appreciate the way it progresses throughout the evening with a friend, but save it for a year or two if you want to drink with a crowd as it may go too quick to appreciate how it improves and grows with time. |

2011 Tilia MerlotMendoza more |
2/13/2013 - rfm9882 Likes this wine: 91 pointsNeil Martin nailed it! Honest Merlot at a great price. Smells fantastic with notes of cherry juice, chocolate, mineral and some flower I can't put my finger on. The palate isn't too shabby either. The tilia is decidedly soft but isn't without an delicately acidic finish. The cherry syrup flavor lingers. Like the cherry syrup you put on pancakes. This makes it sound very sweet but it isn't. However, old world it is not. |

I did not get many tertiary notes off the wine other than the lovely mineral component, but it is young still and those will come. |

2008 Masseria Li Veli Salice Salentino Pezzo MorganaNegroamaro more |
1/21/2013 - rfm9882 wrote: 91 pointsWow! Interesting rustic wine. Negroamaro really earns it's name with this wine. Bitter, but not to a fault; Like the bitter pieces of husk stuck in a delicious walnut and a distinct Amaro liqueur note (i.e. herb and spice infused.) A little burgundian underbrush comes and goes as the tannins integrate. Really goes through a roller coaster in the first five minutes. Really dig the nose that has flowers, and a cherry syrup thing going on. Drink now with a rosemary rubbed pork chop. |

The nose of honeysuckle flowers took me back to spring time and the wild honeysuckle vines that climbed the fence in our back yard in North Carolina where I grew up. This Sense/memory connection may have cause me to give an extra point to a wine that may not have normally merited it (at least at this time). |

Kinda like one of those chocolate covered cherries that I used to hate, except I like this. I might could confuse this for a saint emilion from a really ripe year. I think it will integrate in time, but it's pretty interesting right now. |
