At Antinori Restaurant in Zurich, first experience with this varietal. Paired with pasta with spicy tomato sauce.

Dark purple color. Nose of black fruits, candy and "shoe polish", might have mistaken for a Spanish Priorat. Ripe and fruit forward, black fruit core, sour blackberry, oak and cedar. Medium/long finish

Full and rustic wine, well made, goes well with spiced foods.

At August restaurant in Zurich, by the glass. Interesting to have an Italian Syrah (and described that way)

Red fruits, spice, sweetness on the mid palate - Syrah with an Italian profile. Good QPR, drinks well with simple/flavorful foods

With Valerie, Sharon and Killer...had this with the main course of "Pond View" Skirt Steak and Summer veggies, great pairing. These bottles have been in my cellar since release, good excuse to check in on them. Decanted for about 60 minutes, drank over 2 hours.

Deep purple/red color. Rich nose, really comes out on the decant. Dark fruits, pine and forest floor on the nose. Palate repeats with dark fruits, cassis, spice, chocolate, and tobacco. Beautiful finish, elegant and bold at the same time. No question its California origin. Still young

Medium gold color. Citrus, melon, pineapple, vanilla, butterscotch. Got some creme brulee mid palate. Right in its zone, great Aubert Chard...elegant and flavorful. SHould hold a while here but ready to go

At Miailino at the Gramercy Park Hotel, recommened by the somm as a lighter bodied red - harder to find on Italian wine lists.

Light ruby color, body and nose similar to a new world Pinot. Red fruits, fruit forward, strawberry, baking spice, herbs, sweet on mid palate. Interesting wine.

Splash decanted and served, drank over 30 minutes. Consistent with prior notes - the only thing I can add is this bottle had more fruit (from memory) on the front end of the palate. Really special wine

2002 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard

Napa Valley more

7/18/2015 - walkerjfw wrote: 93 points

At the Blue Bottle in Hopewell, brought a Corison as one of Valerie's favorite CA Cabs. The Kronos Vineyard designation is special, in my experience. Cork broke (waiters fault), decanted and drank at restaurant and home. Took about 30 minutes to show and really opened up after that..

Dark maroon to the rim, little signs of age. Floral nose with plums, cassis, dried earth with mild touch of toasted wood. Palate is really rich and expressive. Blue/black fruits; blueberry "milkshake" texture, black cherry sweetness on the mid palate. Rich and fruit forward wine, but not over the top.

Well done - Cathy Corison's wines very consistent in my experience. The Kronos wines holding up well. This bottle suggests another 5-7 years at this level...

At home with baked salmon. From the fridge, has been waiting to be opened.

Rich golden color, nose of tropical fruits and oak. Has aged elegantly and still has a vibrancy to it. Palate repeats with long finish of caramel, vanilla oak, quince, butterscotch. Creamy, long finish. This bottle was more "buttery" than I recall prior bottles - so you'll have to like the CA Chard style...

Beautiful wine that has shown its chops at its 10 year mark, well made and aging gracefully. Still has a way to go...

At Il Mondo Vecchio in Madison with Bob M, celebrating his retirement. Bob brought this one, drank after/next to an 85 Ch Margaux. Paired with a lamb osso buocco - perfect combination for these wines. Splash decanted for 30 minutes.

Color was a dark maroon, no signs of age. Nose was black fruits, along with a cedar/floral signature. Palate is lush and rich, dark fruits, blackberry, cassis, savory/meats. Sweet tannins, rich mouthfeel. Finish of 20+ seconds.

Still very young, drinks well now but will likely improve. Will e interesting to see this wine evolve, given the core/mid palate it will keep getting better. Longer decant would have helped.

At Il Mondo Veccchio in Madison with Bob M, celebrating his retirement. Special wine for a special moment...splash decanted at the restaurant. Let it open for 30 minutes before drinking. Drank before/next to an 03 Leoville Poyferre. Had started to show after 15 minutes, 45 in it was really open.

Color still red/garnet. Mild bricking at the edges. Nose was dusted red and dark fruits, earth, floral/lavender. Palate of dusted dark fruits, currants. The is a floral/lavender/violet in the mid palate that is classic Ch Margaux. Texture was soft and silky.

Fully mature, Bordeaux at its finest...at 30 years old this is drinking beautifully but likely has a good arc ahead of it (another 10-15+?). This is why we let these wines mature, really special bottle...

Towards the end of my stash, these have been well stored bottles from release. Medium purple color, some cloudiness and sediment. Palate is dusted cherry, floral notes. Mild and elegant old school Bordeaux - great QPR. Moving past its prime, wine seems to be in a tertiary phase at this point. Will drink last bottle this year.

Color still a young maroon/purple. Wine is holding up well. Picked up the dark fruits, jam, oak/vanilla on the nose along with a burnt sugar, caramel note. Texture is noteable in this wine, smooth and creamy.
Palate of ripe blackberry, spice, cedar, tea and blueberry. Medium finish.

Great wine, really flavorful and terrific pairing with anything off the grill. Ridge Zins do not dissapoint

MIT Sloan Fellows Forum - Meeting and Dinner in the Provinces: From a magnum. With the main course, we went with 2 birth-year wines (01 and 95) in honor of Meredith and Charlotte joining the MIT group for dinner. Drank side by side with Lail/J Daniel Cuvee (01). Both had close to 3 hours in the decanter before drinking.

Will borrow prior notes from Dec/12: "Nicely aged, medium purple, some thinning at the edges. Nose was fresh and elegant. Some funk one the opneing, blows off in about 15 minutes. Nose was blackberry, cassis, graphite and cedar. After about an hour picking up some burnt sugar. Palate of sweet cherries, currant, cedar. Fruit and acid and well balanced. Tannins resolved but still present. Medium finish."

The extra decant time and maybe the magnum format...but this was really beautiful wine this evening...better than I remember the prior bottle. We lingered over this for a while, was what great Bordeaux is when it hits its stride, elegant, devine and contemplative...beautifully paired with tenderloin and vegetables.

WOTN for about half the group....

Color is dark purple to the rim, quite youthful for a wine approaching 15 years. Beautiful CA/Napa nose of blueberry, earth, vanilla, eucalyptus. Some Bordeaux notes of floral/pine and graphite. Palate was blue fruits

Nicely balanced - CA fruit with elegance and finesse. Rich mouthfeel and long finish. Really great wine, may have had unfair competition with the 20 yr old Larose...probably a #3 for the night

MIT Sloan Fellows Forum - Meeting and Dinner in the Provinces: First red of the evening, great transition wine from the Lail SB to the Cab/Bordeaux. Decanted for 2 hours prior to drinking, made a difference with these bottles.

Color is light ruby/brick, still looks young. The nose was great (especially with the decant), earth, smoke, red fruits, black cherry.

Consistent with last bottle: "Classic Oregon Pinot, bright red fruits, strawberry/raspberry, cola, floral notes and earth. Lighter mouthfeel. BF Upper Terrace is a consistent winner in my experience. Riper and more fruit forward than the BF Vineyard."

Not sure what to expect, Swiss wines have a wide range of quality. Served this chilled. Crisp, mild acidity. Pears, apples, hint of citrus. Interesting and enjoyable. would also pair well with summer soups, fruit salads.

Still hanging in there...Dark fruits, floral, pencil shavings on the nose. Palate was dusted dark fruits, lavender, tobacco, dark cherries, currant, cedar. Picked up a forest floor/pine.

Tannins resolved, elegant/classic Bordeaux mouthfeel.

Cantemerle is one of my standbys...not high profile or highly touted Bordeaux, very consistent and great QPR. I don't hesitate to open with casual meals...Drinks well now, has more shelf life but probably doesn't improve much from here
