Deep ruby red with pink rim. Youthful appearance. Blueberry, cedar, leaves, lead, tobacco, woodsy slightly musty notes. High toned acid but tannins are smooth and fully integrated with an effortlessness which seems to be a 82 bordeaux quality. More of the same on the palate but with some slight room to go as there is sufficient grip and medium to medium high body. Ends with a sour cherry type note but not unpleasant and it adds a st estephe character. Very very nice 1982.

Great spot. Needs to be drunk a bit cold as it is slightly oxidised. Nose a bit funky but most of it blows off - honey, soy, bread, white fruit, marzipan, preserved lemons, a bit of nutiness. Palate when drunk cold is textbook aged oxidative style champagne. Preserved lemons and soy, marzipan (a bit sweet on attack), preserved lemons, long finish and acid spine, spicy funk that keeps it interesting, and very much alive. Great with teppanyaki lobster and fried rice.

Dark Ruby, slightly cloudy colour. Sweet nose of melange of roses, bandung. Blood and sweat, blueberry, kirsch, milk chocolate, and potpourri garrigue. Nose is unique and awesome. Palate tight after pour. Grapey flavours, chocolatey powdery tannin, with alcoholic bandung finish lasting about a minute or more. 2006 st cosmes are amazing.

Light tawny edge with orangey pink hue. Slightly cloudy. Attractive high toned nose of light wild strawberry and raspberry, with stems and some alcohol. With air, more stems and a slightly herbaceous note creep in. On palate, high toned acid which dulls the sweeter nose. Mid palate slightly hollow. Some grip and alcoholic finish. Somewhat spatburgundian on palate with longish finish of light acidic fruits (lime?).

an atypical rd. completely different from the grand annee. even the colour is different - light yellow with lime tinge. nose of salted lemon and brioche with red and green apples rounded off with hint of white flower. acid, white fruits and minerality on the palate with salinity. No oxidation at all although this is 21 years old. the structure is prominent with slightly bitter finish of salted almonds. slightly krug like with hint of sulphuror yellow peach. Should improve over next 10-20 years but watch the salinity. reminds a bit of a great riesling.

Another bottle ten years down. Colour looks oxidative. Bready rich buttery bolly nose. Sweet slightly cooked apples like apple pie. Some secondary notes of quince paste and maybe haw. Overall sweet nose. Palate has good medium acidity to balance the sweet apples. Does feel slightly sweet and less exciting than the RD. Long finish of chinese apple drink with lingering fizz on tongue. Tastes like a cheap but happy zappel.

Dark Ruby with pink rim. Cherry, kirsch, meat and moss and some sandalwood/vosne spice on nose which is complex but has pretty underlying fruit. That fruit comes forward with a very moreish middle full of stuffing but balanced by a weightless but concentrated sheen coating the smooth tannins. great example of power with weightlessness. With a long finish of sour cherries, spice and minerality. Gorgeous.
Perfect with slight lift from Riedel Somm.

Drunk from Zalto after double decant and recork. Colour is deep ruby with very slight bricking at edge. Nose is a full on melange of plum, berry, chocolate, white pepper, blood, christmas spices, sweat, dried herbs, appleskins. Palate is slightly closed, alcoholic high toned kirsch, powdery tannins need time to resolve obscuring the fruit slightly. Classic profile and structured almost like bordeaux! Wishing there was a bit more alcohol and glycerol in the slightly powdery tannic finish tinged with dark berries. Still a treat but would have loved a bit more on palate. The bottle needs to stand for a few days.

Probably at plateau although will hold for some years. Fruit melange, blood and sweat, garrique. Almost southern rhonish with a bit of flower, but attractive nose. Pretty and changing nose but will need air. Double decant and breathe it for some hours. Palate has smooth tannin that has largely been resolved. Drunk beside the 2001.

Deep bloodred slightly bricking pink. Seductive and beguiling aged rhone nose of purple lilac flowers, bacon fat, blue and blackberries, sweet dried herbs almost vanillin oak, sweat, touch of cola. With air, some black pepper notes. A bit hot on nose which gives it a slightly portlike quality. On palate - touch of heat but reflects all of the components on the nose. Tannins smooth and resolved. Sweet finish with a touch of alcohol and sour prunes. Drink up this absolute beauty.

Ruby red with a slight purple tinge.
Syrah on nose adds a sweet meaty red fruit melange element ehich dominates the nose but with age there is sweet garrigue, potpourri and sweat with hints of blood to balance it off. Some alcohol and heat on the nose which some may find disconcerting.
Palate confirms the nose. There is a pleasant soft sweet fruit core with secondary rhone characteristics. tannins have resolved. little oak. Good freshness from acidity. Long finish of mouthfilling light and bright red fruits melange, sweet kirsch, some soft sweet tannin and some secondary notes of vanilla umami and salt (but not yet cola).

dusty red with brick red rim.
melange on nose of perfumed flowers, red fruit, blue fruit, sweat, flower tea and spice. With air some blood and iron.
Palate has unresolved tannin (which could be because it had not been stood up) although it is smooth and sweet, high toned slightly alcoholic but sweet attack, jam, hint of chocolate and cola. Long blue and red fruit finish with spices (is that marsala?), with some alcohol.
An enjoyable drink. Probably should be stood up to get rid of sediment.

amber rust red with light orangey red rim. initially seemed a bit musty and dead. started singing with pork dish.
on nose, dead leaves, lots of sour cherries with hint of grapeade, autumn earth, mushrooms. on palate. cherry cola sweetness sour cherry, some woody mushrooms, tea. finish of sour cherries and puer tea.
loving this 33 year old wine. don't knock the quintarelli!

completely mature and over the hill bordeaux. geriatric love?
deep purple with pink rim.
herbaceous nose of leaf/decaying leaves. hint of prunes and forest floor but not in an unclean way. leather and wooden/cigar box to round off.
thin and acidic, shadows of high toned fruit. some secondary and tertiary notes. on the way to death. long sour fruit finish, metallic notes, slightly bitter although tannins resolved.
hopefully there are bottles with more fruit left.

leather. cola. sweet red fruit. sweat and hint of Brett. provincial herbs.
cool red fruits still surviving with melange of animale and not unpleasant smelly sock Brett. sweet but slightly bitter long finish, if it makes sense, probably because this was an unrested bottle. some sarsi notes. Still going. Tannins fully resolved and tertiary.

Pale gold with greenish flecks. Reduced warm nose of alcohol, lemon zest, petroleum jelly. Flint and stones. Hint of bread yeast. Very early days on a palate that is dominated by bright lemon rinds and hints of stone fruit but with loads of saline stuffing and a waxy mouthfeel. Palate is warm yet dry, monolithic and structural. Finish is alcoholic but filled with lemony fruit and goes on and on with more of the saline stuffing almost msg like. Huge wine, if drunk young recommend that you bring up serving temperature and drink it like a cocktail. Pleasurable if slightly self flagellating.

So so nice.
Purple with pink rim.
On popping, nose is not yet flowing. Blood and meat balanced well with Garrigue, sweet red fruit and kirsch. Smoke. Touch of hospital disinfectant, orange, rose and other blossoms.
On palate, alcohol, red and blue fruit. Fresh and well balanced with acid. Bit of blood. Rose. Ashes. Touch of cola in finish showing this is getting to a more tertiary phase. Compelling Rhone palate.
