7/25/2023 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRRipping acid. Ton of upside left. Super enjoyable now but no rush. A great example of electrique blanc. |

I drink a fair amount of "natty" wines but am increasingly more and more frustrated with the level of mouse I encounter in wines that are increasing in popularity. As per usual the mouse was there right off the bat on this one, but there was enough other flavor coming through that I was able to enjoy it somewhat. But on the second night, forget about it. Literally nothing left but mouse. Which is unfortunate because this is a delicate grape whose flavors I find charming. |

2009 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage La GuiraudeSyrah more |
2/27/2019 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRThis wine is a beast. No where near ready to drink. Gave very little on day #1. Just a wall of acid and tannin. When you do catch a glimpse of the fruit, you can tell its ripe. But the tannins are a bit astringent at the moment. Just ridiculously structured. On day #2 you get some hints of the typical cold climate Syrah notes - smokey, meaty, cracked pepper, but not so much the olive and brine. But this needs a ton more time. Packed so tight now, could blossom into something really beautiful in 5+ years. |

2003 Paolo Scavino BaroloNebbiolo more |
11/21/2017 - jahlove wrote: NRThis wine is still insanely young. Even the next day it barely softened. Very reticent on the nose and just a brick wall of tannin. There is some Barolo character there - tobacco, menthol, some florals, and very dark fruit but I don't know what will be left by the time the tannins soften. This is a challenge right now even with food. |

10/7/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRJuicy pear, quince, and apple notes. Lovely chamomile as well. Nicely balanced. Pure, delicious Loire chenin. Highly quaff-able. Back up the truck. |

2010 Domaine Servin Chablis 1er Cru Montée de TonnerreChardonnay more |
7/28/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRThe last time I had this was at a Muscadet tasting and a few people noticed that it did taste a little advanced for it's age. I'm not one to be highly sensitive to premox. It has to be a pretty bad case of it for me to not want to finish the wine. I did notice a little that day, but against a set of clean crisp Muscadet wines, perhaps it was easier to spot. Still I enjoyed it that day, and I enjoyed this bottle as well with all the elements of the sea and shore that it evoked. But I will say that I don't think it's worth holding these any longer if you've got them. Drink up. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2013 Daniel Bouland ChiroublesGamay more |
7/28/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRMy first 2013 Bouland was enjoyed over two nights. Always seem to start with Chiroubles as it tends to be less brooding than some of his other wines. This one is no exception. The Bouland stamp is easily spotted here. Vibrant magenta color, almost electric. Cool and crunchy with great freshness and light grip to the finish. While the fruit profile is more dominating on the first night, it really takes the back seat on day two with the floral, mineral notes becoming more prominent. If this is any indication of Bouland's 2013s, I'm excited to work my way through the bunch and put a decent amount away. |

2009 François Chidaine Vouvray Sec Les ArgilesChenin Blanc more |
7/19/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRFour years since my last taste of this bottle, I'd hope there would be more development. Though I'm not not complaining, as this wine is still very fresh. Familiar profile of yellow fruits with floral and tea-like notes carried nicely by a wave of mouthwatering salinity. This dry, well balanced white has plenty of zip making it a great accompaniment to summer dinner fare. At this point, doesn't seem like it's going to evolve into anything earth shattering, but I like what it has to offer and happy to have one more in the cellar to check on in another 4 years. |

2014 Domaine des Lambrays La Rose Du Clos RoséBurgundy Pinot Noir more |
7/18/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRDeep rose color with a flash of purple that gives it a sort of incandescence. Needed some air to fully open up. A rather full bodied rose with definite Pinot qualities. Delicious no doubt but I found myself wanting for a little more freshness. |

2008 Agrapart Champagne Grand Cru Minéral Blanc de Blancs Extra BrutChardonnay more |
7/18/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRDelicious blanc de blancs with great crispness and cut. It's a little severe now, but settled down about an hour in with shades of biscuit and almond tones peaking out. Will enjoy following this over the next several years. |

2011 Luc Percher Cour-Cheverny L’EpicourchoisRomorantin more |
1/20/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRA fine value to be found in this 100% Romorantin from Luc Percher. Medium to medium plus body with ample acidity, this delightful wine offers a bevy of scents and flavors ranging from apple, apricot, melon, citrus, and white flowers. A really fun wine for Loire lovers and nubies alike. Won't break the bank. |

2008 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille VignePinot Noir more |
1/14/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRDefinitely needs a night to settle down. On the next day the uber tartness is balanced out more by some deeper red fruit and brambly tones. And the nose really starts to sing like red Burgundy should. A very beguiling cherry cola and red licorice cloaked in this lovely cinnamon and earth scent that is hard to describe. It's just that Burgundy thing that always gets me. Hard to tell what's going to happen to this long term though. Not sure if it has the depth of fruit to outlast the aggressive acid. We'll see what another 2-3 years does. |

2005 Jean-Michel Stephan Côte-Rôtie Côteaux de TupinSyrah more |
1/12/2015 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRClassic Cote Rotie. Drinking surprisingly well at the moment but will definitely hold my second bottle for a while yet. First night it was all about the olive tapenade. Definitely a traditional approach. No new oak evident at all. Light in alcohol and medium in body but packed with flavor. Drying tannin abounds, we're talkin' Hoover vacuum to the mouth dry, and well balanced acidity. Absolutely fantastic by the end of the night and holding strong on night #2 with bloody meat, smoke, and old worn leather with a wonderful lavender top note. First time having this producer. Good stuff. I can only see this becoming downright campfire like with more age. |

2/9/2014 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRThis wine is evolving nicely. Meatier than I remember. Blood and iron with a nice hoison note in there as well. Good acidity and fine grained tannins. Will let my last bottle sit for another 5 years or so. |

2005 Domaine du Château de Chorey (Germain) Beaune 1er Cru Les Cras Vieilles VignesPinot Noir more |
10/13/2013 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRRustic at first. Very dry with ample acidity. A dark, ripe and red core is enveloped in earthy, meaty, and brothy tones. Would work wonders with steak and frittes. Second day it becomes even more fragrant, taking on more forest and floral tones. Lovely wine. Wish I had more. |

2010 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les GrangesCabernet Franc more |
1/23/2013 - jahlove wrote: NRStill a little tight at this stage but showing promise. Old school Bordeaux-like in it's restraint and elegance. This is a very taught, mineral expression of Cab Franc. Red fruited with mineral, tobacco, graphite and light earthy tones. Great value for the price. |

1/21/2013 - jahlove wrote: NRThis thing freakin rocks. Saline to the hilt. Got shellfish? Lord have mercy this thing just hums with beautifully delineated flavors. Finishes long, inducing a savory lip smack at the end. Even better than the impressive 2009 perhaps? Back up the MF'n truck. |

2010 Jacques Puffeney Pinot Noir Arboismore |
1/16/2013 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRMy first Pinot from Puffeney. Totally translucent with nose that's kind of spicy (think radish) but earthy and floral at the same time. In the mouth it tastes like a blend of cherry, pomegranate and cranberry juices. It's probably a little too acidic for most people but that's what I like about it. I'm an acid junky. It finishes very dry, like a cat's tongue. The nose is what gets me though. |

2009 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Clos de Morines Château ThébaudMelon de Bourgogne more |
1/7/2013 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRGreat muscadet. A little more weight than normal. Could be the nature of the vintage but sacrifices nothing in energy for it. Wonderfully floral, with tremendous cut and minerality. Almost chablis like in character. Drinks even better after two days in the fridge, certainly a good omen for the future. Another lovely wine from this essential producer. |

2006 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir NotoriousYamhill County more |
11/30/2012 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRMuch better than my first bottle. Nice baking spice and chocolate aromas join in with the darker fruit from this vintage. The oak I noticed in the earlier tasting was barely evident. The main issue here is lack of energy. Despite the inviting aroma and palate it just came across a little flat on the palate. Gave pleasure nonetheless. |

2005 Louis Latour Volnay 1er Cru En ChevretPinot Noir more |
11/30/2012 - jahlove Likes this wine: NRThis is just starting to come into it's own right now. Much deeper and more expressive than the last time I checked in on it. Showing deep, ripe red fruit with wonderful mineral and earth tones. Juicy and delicious. Really exhibits the strength of the vintage. Looking forward to tracking my remaining bottle over the next few years. |

9/30/2012 - jahlove wrote: NRMy buddy warned me that this was "beaver wine." I see why now. Oak, oak and more oak. Resembles bourbon more than it does Bordeaux. If anything this has the new world fruit and milk chocolate of the right bank Merlot based wines. If you are more of a traditionalist, just skip this. If you are holding multiple bottles, don't think the oak is going to integrate with more time. It's not. If you must, I can see this pairing well with bbq. |

9/29/2012 - jahlove wrote: NRReally pretty wine. Cool red fruit in the nose for the first hour or so then turns more complex with tilled soil, forest floor and brothy tones. Crunchy pomegranate fruit draws across the palate with great silkiness. I love Burgundy. Really would like to pair this with some game bird. |

9/6/2012 - jahlove wrote: NRI continue to be amazed at how much my palate has changed. I don't bother to rate wine anymore, but to think that I scored this wine a 90 as little as two years ago is amazing. I drink this now and it does nothing for me. Doesn't taste like Italy. It tastes like ripe fruit and oak, lots of oak. Have poured so many of my earlier purchases down the drain. |
