Another bottle 15 months later and still excellent cab: like a Medoc meets California. Great with burger and fries; seems very smooth and resolved to me.

Tasty peppery fruit and wood more integrated second night; tastes young; short finish; not complex. More Oregonian than Burgundian. Very good party wine as it's pleasing on its own . Stood up to roasted vegetables and aioli so is a useful food wine.

2003 Jean et Gilles LaFouge Pommard 1er Cru Les Chanlins

Pinot Noir more

10/8/2014 - urbanfarmer wrote: 88 points

More fruity syrup than expected (2003 effect?) with satisfying woody finish. Reminds of lesser del duero. Fullness reminds of Pommard otherwise would not have guessed Burgundy; very good with food and for sipping; For $20 I have no complaints at all. Chambers St has 2011 on sale $44 and contrast would be instructive. Lafauge is respected Meursault producer, and Chanlins look very close on the map.

Drink with pleasure: strong chewy wood, loads of fresh fruit and brightness, delicious young burg with a naughty finish in a very good year at $59 I'm not complaining. I'll look for more and try for premiere.

Ready to drink; lots of tannin but good fruit coming through. I would call this a masculine burgundy.

Excellent. Gave it 3 hours in decanter but was good at opening. From 58 degree cellar in OWC. Lots of generous flavors, depth, texture, roundness. A bargain at $35.

Decant 4 hours during which the wine showed orange peel, dark fruits, very long finish; fresh and crisp, softening over time; muted nose or maybe excess ventilation; seems to grow in power by the hour; haunting and addicting.

Unlike some other very enjoyable 07's I've drunk from this vineyard, this wine falls somewhat flat. Agree it's best at PNP.

Drank 2 bottles over 2 nights. The second night gave it 4 hour decant and the wine came alive. PNP the night before and got the herbal notes, tightness. Needs at least 3 hr decant but worth the wait.

Seems to have lost some spark. Good chewy tannins, long tasty finish, fruit and acid seem to have faded. Bougogne should be drunk within first couple years and this is a good example of that maxim. See 90 point rating a year ago.
