A heavier, richer and more powerful with compared to the two bottles of Krug. A large and powerful nose. Really nice acidity on the finish. Finishes fresh and bright despite the bigger richer profile. This has incredible intensity with enough freshness to avoid being heavy or overdone. A really special bottle of Champagne and a treat to taste. Outstanding.

Bottle 2 - More vibrant and energetic than bottle 1. Similar developing notes but with more energy and freshness. Beautiful citrus, pear and wet cement aromas. Incredibly long on the palate with great precision and balance. Still showing some youthfulness. Probably the best bottle of Champagne I've ever had the pleasure to taste. Extraordinary.

Bottle 1 - Showing more age than the second bottle with more baked fruits and apples notes. This bottle was fantastic and seemed fresh and energetic until the second bottle was opened and showed even more life, energy and vibrancy. Outstanding.

Blind December Lunch (Lupo): Tasted blind. At first sniff this seemed to be either a riper Bdx or a classic Cali cab from a traditional producer. Sweeter cab fruit with hints of bell pepper. Nice structure with sweeter fruit and balancing acidity on the palate. This bottle seemed a bit riper/sweeter and slightly less fresh/youthful than a bottle several months ago. Drink or hold. Excellent.

Blind December Lunch (Lupo): Tasted blind. This and the previous wines both have Italian noses...both could be nebbiolo. This one has similar dark fruits but less sweet and more floral tones. No oak that I can detect. Slightly more tannin in this one. This wine also seems more traditional and more reserved. Maybe a 96? Prefer this wine by a small margin. Seems more classical. Excellent and drinking well but should go for another decade easy.

This is quite good. A bit of wood on this one that leads me to think either a modern producer or a riper year. Either way, a really nice wine that's drinking well at the moment. Excellent.

Opened and drank over 3 hours. Got better with air. Still quite tannic but there is enough fruit and acidity to keep everything balanced. I'd give this 2-3 more years before trying again. Very good. 88+

Decanted for two hours and needed more. At first it had almost a brownish red colour and was a bit thin/disjointed on the palate. As it sat in the decanter it began to flesh out and become fresher. Overall a good drink but not as good as previous bottles. I think this still needs a few years. Excellent.

Served blind. Served to us in a Burg glass but it didn't take long for a few of us to clue in this was probably Syrah. I typically prefer the more rustic and traditional producers in Northern Rhone, but this wine showed better than I would have guessed (for my palate). A polished and smooth version of Hermitage but one that's not over done or too heavy-handed as some Chapoutier wines are to me. This was really nice and still quite youthful.

Consistent with previous notes: classic left bank nose with a silky palate and clean profile. This, to me, it right in the drinking zone although this particular bottle was showing more youthfully than previous bottles suggesting another decade or two of prime time drinking. This wine is always fantastic.

Served blind. Prefer the nose here to the other wine in this flight as there's lovely darker pinot fruit, wood spice and hints of floral here. Rich palate but in good balance with the structure. Surprisingly approachable for a 99. Really nice.
