2016 Gramercy Cellars Syrah Holy Roller VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
1/22/2022 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 92 pointsSignificantly improved on night two. Night one had a bit of a green streak that took away from the wine. On night two, the green streak is gone, the earthiness is a bit mellowed with the fruit taking on more prominence. Black berries, orange peel, forest floor, green olive. Texturally this is terrific. I would just give it a long open at this point. |

10/18/2021 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 97 pointsThe evolution of this wine was amazing. At open this was green olive, seaweed and blue fruit. As it settled down, the umami faded and tertiary notes of orange rind and red fruits started to emerge. |

9/25/2021 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 93 pointsOpened about an hour before pouring a glass. This started pretty big and tanic before settling down over the next few hours. Once it mellowed out a bit, this is a really nice Bordeaux blend with big red fruit, anise, coffee and salinity. Really nice texture. |

Then really just a well made Chianti with bright sour cherry, roasted tomato with herbs, a bit of earthiness and a fantastic texture and weight. In a good spot now but should last for a while. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

12/25/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 96 pointsTasted side by side with the 2016 Artist Series. The Old Vines is definitely a notch higher. Really comes together at about 4 hours. This wine has the classic Horse Heaven graphite come through as does the Petit Verdo. A really nice rich Cabernet. We thoroughly enjoyed this. |

12/25/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 93 pointsDrank side by side with the 2015 Old Vines. This is a fine classic Cabernet with coffee, chocolate and dark berries. First tasted at 2 hours open and the wine was still pretty closed. Took another 2 hours to really open. At 4 hours, the fruit really pops, the tannins are tamed just a bit and this wine comes together nicely. I’d wait a year or two before opening another bottle. |

12/20/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 94 pointsI would give this a 91 on day 1 and a 94 on day 2. The wine has an earthy floral nose with raspberry and boysenberry. On the palate I get cranberry, boysenberry, a little green olive and earthiness. A bit closed on day 1, this really opens on day 2. |

12/18/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis has aged into a wow wine. The tannins are softened, the fruit still bright but the earthier flavors more present. Beautiful texture. This is in a really good spot but certainly has the structure and acidity to age a while. |

12/5/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 94 pointsIn a nice place. Blackberries and red raspberries, orange peel, baking spice, chocolate and coffee. A big rich wine, but could use a bit more acidity. Very nice now, but probably near peak. I would drink in the next year. |

12/3/2020 - Jamesgold Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis is still drinking well but I’m not sure this is has a long life ahead. Beautiful texture and weight. Charcuterie, green olive and dark fruits of plum and blackberries. A little lacking in acidity to give it that needed zip to send it to another level. Overall good wine. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
