2009 Château Fombrauge Blanc

Bordeaux Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more

3/4/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 92 points

Citrusy, lemony, charred meat/complex nose with a nicely developing gold colour. Light minty cocoa, sweet lemon, white peach, gravely soil flavours and new oak with a high concentration of alcohol. But it is so nicely balance and integrated that the alcohol nor the oak stand out. Its like a flower in bloom, over 1 hour this wine evolves constantly! One can only imagine what a few more years down might yield. 92+

I have had this numerous times since last year and it just keeps getting better! More so that now I tasted the Pape Clement blanc 2010@UGCB, this is like its long lost younger, vibrant brother, except only at 1/6th the price! Am I missing something here?

1992 Château La Fleur de Gay

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

2/21/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 93 points

Ex-Chateau. Had it several times past few months, popped and decanted for one hour+ and it was in full blown action. Another time we let it sit in bottle for 1.5+ hour and it was the same, with minimal bottle variation.

Dark velvety colour with a tiny bricking to the rim. Wonderful nose of herby flowers, wondering if there are some chrysanthenum in this or perhaps some sort of apple flower scent. Plum/pluot/prunes, lapin or skeena cherry variety, with fine balance. Lightly structured and quite easy to drink, but yet complex. A fully matured classic pomerol at its peak. Classic claret, stone fruit finish last forever.

Side note: It is unfortunate Mr. Raynaud sold half the terroir to the Rothschild, now evangile will get some sort of upgrade in quality and production at which they charge you at least twice the price of this wine.

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more

UGCB 2010 HK, Did someone just put fireworks in my mouth? This is a monster wine. Just like a dinosaur breaking its shell, we cannot forsee how it may be. Huge nose, before you even bendover its already there. Flora/fauna, jams, tropic fruits, subtropic fruits, french fruits, some fruits. Huge tannins, big finish that produces fruitloops.

Over 20+years, perhaps 90-99.

2010 Château Branaire-Ducru

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

UGCB 2010 HK, Beautiful ruby colour. Floral, with bits of coffee scents. Honey, jammy, balanced with some fruits but not much oak here. Decent structure, tannins and finish which made it very accessible now. Certainly will develop with cellaring, but not too much. 90-92.

2010 Château Gruaud Larose

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

2/28/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 93 points

UGCB 2010 HK, Nice colour of blood, a bit darker. Flowers, berries, oaks in a nice soft way. Lightly balanced, well structured with smooth tannins that makes it suprisingly accessible at this stage. Long term storage will develop much more complexity. 93+

A buy at less than 2009 EP.

2010 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

2/28/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 95 points

UGCB 2010 HK, waited 20 minutes in glass: Strong floral scents with a very nice black cherry colour, complex! Oaky, hints of mint, harmonius with a strong tannin in a decent finish. I don't drink much Pichon Lalande, but this owns the hallmark of a very classy paulliac. Stood out from the rest of the paulliac appellation at this tasting.

This beats the 2008/2009 I had 2 months earlier.

2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more

2/28/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 98 points

Fresh lemon with floral scent, goldilocks colour, orange, a bit of cool climate tropical fruit. Beautifully balanced with just right amount of oak! Long, with so much more coming through finish and readily accessible at this age! Ordered.

Drank the SML 09 (100 points) just a few weeks ago, and it was nothing memorable compared to this. Maybe I should just rate this 101 points down the road?

2010 Château Pape Clément

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more

2/28/2013 - Monkey grapes Likes this wine: 95 points

UGCB 2010 HK, Lots of complexity, fruits, berries with somewhat mild, comfortable tannins. Fine balance and smooth, but not yet silky. Quite accessible now but will be a complete wine with time although the subtle fruits suggest closure in the near future. A fine example of Pessac Leognan.
