Great wine for the price! Big fruit with toasty oak. The Syrah grapes come from a well known vineyard. Don't be bothered by the screw cap, guaranteed not to be corked.

Incredibly smooth, deep fruit. A wonderful wine! This was our second bottle, the other was consumed in April 2012 which was not as memorable. We stored them since 2010. Either there was bottle variability or the extra aging paid off. Drink now.

I have to agree with blackmistressdiva, this wine is great. Cherry, cherry, and more cherry. Great cocktail wine, if that is not your style try Rosenblum's Eagle Point Zinfandel, it's a wonderful meal match for lamb etc.

I mentioned in my last review back in June 2007 that this vintage will be better than the 03 and 04. It seems to be headed that way. The wine is developing complexity and is evolving slowly, much slower than the over the top 2004 and slower than the 2003 as well. For those lucky individuals that have this in the cellar, be patient because it is nowhere near its peak yet. Stay tuned!

This is the most balanced Chardonnay that I have ever tasted. Nice fruit, some mango, pineapple. Just enough acid for a food match. Could possibly be even better in 6 months to a year. Another amazing thing about this wine is that there is NO detectable alcohol whatsoever! Tip: don’t drink this too cold because you might miss some pleasant nuances present in the wine.

I have had this wine before and it is very good, but this bottle was corked. I generally have bad luck with the composite cork also known as the twin disk. I have emailed Cameron Hughes about this back in April 2007 and he replied that changes will be made in late 2007. I realize this bottle was produced before Feb. of 2007. Hopefully we will eventually see the end of the awful "twin disk" cork!

2005 Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

I poured this wine through the Vinturi device into a decanter. The wine is still young but showing nicely! The wine is balanced and has a long finish. Wonderful fruit and interesting oak. My first oh wow experience with Rosenblum was the 2002 Monte Rosso, but I don't feel the 03 or the 04 vintages were as good. With this 2005 vintage, I am proclaiming that the Monte Rosso Zinfandel is back and back in a big way!

I'm rating this wine based on what it will be with 1 to 2 years in the cellar. Most Rosenblum wines greatly improve a few years after release. This wine has a pH of 3.62 which is quite acidic compared to some of the other Rosenblum zins that approach 4.0. To me this means 2 things, it will age well, but it may seem tart right now for some people. Have it with food or cellar for a while, your patience will be rewarded! I recently opened a 2003, 2004, and the 2005 in order to taste them side by side and have them with ribs from the grill. The ribs were somewhat sweet and therefore my sister and her husband preferred the 2004. My wife and I preferred the 2003 based on its smoothness and complexity. I remember the 2004 upon release and it showed very little other than sweetness and alcohol. Now the 2004 has complexity with less apparent sweetness. I had bought a case of the 2003 in January 2005 and watched it evolve in about 6 months to a fantastic wine. Based on my experience with this vineyard designate, the high acidity, and my faith in Rosenblum’s consistent barrel program, the 2005 at some point will be the best of the three.

Something off here, I think it is bret. It did seem to dissipate somewhat after the next day. I’ve had good wine from them before, but not this one. If you see it (Mendocino 2003) don’t buy it. If you already have it, decant, and don’t serve to guests.

Many of the Rosenblum zinfandels drink very well on their own without food, but my advice with this one is to enjoy it with food. Upon opening, it is quite tannic for a zin. This wine smoothed out over the next two days. This one needs some more cellar time, so be patient. The wine is quite nice, but I will agree somewhat with other reviews about the lack of complexity. If one takes the time to pay attention (and decant), there are some interesting qualities such as anise (I think of it as licorice). Sometimes I like the challenge to uncover some pleasant qualities in a subtle wine. It would be nice to see this at the $25 list instead of $35. This makes it difficult to compete with the Richard Sauret, Eagle Point, and Planchon. I recommend this wine if you don't mind the price.
