2009 Cayuse Syrah Bionic Frog

Walla Walla Valley more

Velvety and supple after double decanting for 8 hours. Notes of smoke and a finish of rubber denoting its extreme youth. A great wine that will only age gracefully over the next 10+ years.

Drinking well now, though I think this may be just a touch past its peak. Decanted for 2.5 hours. Touch of a raisiny note and seems to have lost a little of its elegant edge. Still enjoyable--drink spoon.

Decanted for 4 hours and was still bright and youthful. Would hold for another 2-3 years to see how it evolves.

Dry Creek Valley White Blend more

5/2/2011 - Anonymous wrote: NR

This white hits all the right notes, with balance, crisp acidity, and still a nice body and mouthfeel all without being overwhelmed by the overripe citrus or floral notes that are so common in New World whites.

It's great to see winemaking swing back towards subtlety and this is a good example. Drinking well now, but could easily age for several more years, this wine had ripe fruit but is never grapey or out of balance. Elegant, restrained, and well made.

Nice apple notes mixed with pleasant yeastiness, though slightly on the tart side for my taste. Would prefer a bit more of the biscuit note that appears in many Champagnes.

Excellent for the vintage, particularly with 2+ hours of decanting. Well balanced with the usual Brunello notes, lingering finish and good mouthfeel.

Very nice wine that is drinking quite well right now. Not quite as enticing as the Unti Grenache, but very enjoyable in this slightly more approachable form.

For being so bold right after pulling the cork, I was surprised to see how quickly this wine softened to display such superb balance. Excellent example of a well-made WA version of right bank Bordeaux.

Nice port-ish, candied quality to this though restrained after a few years of bottle age. I expected this to be
perhaps slightly past its prime, but found it to be just right for my taste--all the boldness you might expect,
just slightly silkier around the edges.
