NOSE: smells like a Saison with a healthy dose of lemon and a hint of clementine orange.

BODY: yellow-orange color; still has a bead, which produces a thin-but-persistent whitish head; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: airy/frothy mouthfeel; earthy/grassy/hay; strong green banana flavor on the mid palate and also on the finish; I'm enjoying this now, but I believe I preferred it when it was younger.

NOSE: high-toned; primary; a bit stemmy(?) --- if not stemmy, I'll call it a green peppercorn aspect.

BODY: dark ruby color; medium bodied.

TASTE: primary strawberry – cherry mix; floral; very tannic; moderately bitter. It was a bad idea to open this wine now.

This was a backup bottle. Not vegetal on the Nose like the other bottle was; slightly high-toned aromatics. Medium bodied on the palate. Oaky with non-descript primary fruit on the palate. Good, but I liked it less than did many others in attendance.

NOSE: tight; cherry; with time in the glass, a slight TCA/TBA/musty note came and went --- there was considerable debate about whether this wine was corked.

TASTE: cigar; minerally; muted fruits. Again, this didn't seem quite right, but it wasn't obviously wrong, either. I suppose there's a chance this didn't see enough air, but I'm not convinced that was the culprit here. Potentially/probably flawed bottle.

Gut impression score: mid to high 90's.

NOSE: very stony; Cab. Franc herbaceousness; some light to medium-light plum aroma; not bretty; a bit high-toned; dried herbs; bitter florals; wet potting soil; very complex; opened-up and filled-out approx. 45 min. after opening.

BODY: medium-light bodied; lots of fine particulate matter present; magenta-garnet color of medium-deep depth.

TASTE: very tannic; very stony; gently herbal; plum; pencil lead; a touch bitter; *maybe* a slight hint of brett, but if it is there it's certainly not bad enough to be bothersome or worrisome; garrigué and light oak on the finish, which is of medium intensity and medium-long to long duration; alc. not noticeable; medium acidity is adequate; medium-light concentration of fruit – I do wish there was a bit more here, but that's a minor quibble; markedly better than the previous bottle, which was very bretty. This showed similarly on Day 2 as it did on Day 1, but for being a bit more thin/closed/tight on Day 2 than it was on Day 1. Hands Off for at least another 5 years. Overall, excellent and exciting.

NOSE: medium petrol; pear and apple juices; a bit underbrushy; medium to medium+ expressiveness.

BODY: rich, golden green-yellow color; no spritza; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: true Spatlese; medium-strong mid-palate mineral aspect, which carries on to the finish, which is of medium intensity and medium to medium-long length; medium-low acidity; 10% alc. not noticeable; a touch watery and loosely structured; definitely out of its infancy, and perhaps even at peak; this wine has clearly evolved over the 5 years since I had it last, but my qualitative statements from then remain largely unchanged; I was perhaps a touch optimistic 5 years ago when I scored this wine out to 90 points, and I see no reason to retain that optimism anymore; Drink Now and over the next couple of years.

NOSE: very fruity with lots of peaty oak; some cherry licorice.

BODY: some medium-fine particulate matter present; dark garnet color of medium-deep depth; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: oaky; strong alcohol taste and sensation --- this is labeled at 14.5%, but it's probably closer to 40% abv --- hits like a shot of vodka, and tastes like a cheap blended whisky; low acid; not much tannin; this is one seriously one of the most disgusting non-flawed wines I've ever had: I might actually score this higher as a whisky than I do as a wine, if I were tasting blind; absolutely vile stuff. I feel like my score is too high on this one. Clearly past whatever peak it may have had.
