10/17/2015 - pizzler Likes this wine: 87 pointsA/B comparison: Two different yeasts (FX10 and ICV GRE) Comparable in quality, I found the FX10 slightly preferable and everyone else prefered the ICV. The FX10 produced a more rounded result with greater harmony. The ICV seemed a little fresher and more fruity. |

2007 Marie Courtin Champagne Efflorescence Extra BrutPinot Noir more |
7/7/2013 - pizzler wrote: 85 pointsHad this on a subsequent evening after trying the Guiborat BdB and Brut Champagne NV's. This didn't measure up. It was overly astringent for my taste and the flavors didn't "explode on the palate" ala Galloni's review. Perhaps we're trying it too young, but I don't hold out out lots of hope. It mildly improved with air time. It was drowned by a lightly seasoned pork. Plenty of acidity, but the structure wasn't there to enjoy the flavors. |

7/5/2013 - pizzler wrote: 87 pointsLess interesting than the BdB we had the night before. Good quality and QPR. It works well as an aperitif bubbly. It lacks the structure to stand up to heavier foods and the taste wasn't as interesting. Still a fine bargain. |

7/7/2013 - pizzler wrote: 91 pointsThis is a food and wallet friendly terrific QPR champagne...if you can find it. Bread dough and citrus nose, fine beads, citrus and bread notes with a caramel that came out as the wine aired. Excellent balance and dosage, with the acidic backbone to stand up to most food. Definitely improved the longer it opened up. A little rough upon opening and you could miss the quality of this champagne if you are impatient. Has a definite aging uptick. I would buy it again for sure. I preferred this to the Brut we had the next night. |

NV Tesseron Lot #65 XO EmotionGrande Fine Champagne Cognac Ugni Blanc, Trebbiano more |
6/8/2013 - pizzler wrote: 96 pointsThis is a wonderful Tesseron, comparable to the Lot 23, though it lacks as much complexity or price of the Lot 23. We tasted them back to back and there were more similarities than differences between the two. I felt there was a significant gap between Lots 65 and 23 and the rest of the available Lots (90, 76, and 53). A beautiful nose, smooth to the taste, rich in flavor, and a long aftertaste. It's harder to find than other Tesseron's but worth the search. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/13/2013 - pizzler wrote: 84 pointsCloying sweet wine without the structure to support it. The fruit was very fresh and pure. A sure sign of a wine I'm not into is not taking a third pour and this was one of those wines. |

3/29/2013 - pizzler Likes this wine: 95 pointsA still youthful wine with lots of aging potential. Light salmon color with incredibly small bubbles. Mild bread dough and citrus nose. Very angular citrus taste upon opening where the structure of the wine overshadowed the fruit. It took about an hour for it to open up and it showed its best at cellar cool instead of ice bucket cold. A beautiful wine. Delicate but a joy with a cheese & apple tart appetizer and powerful enough to stand up to a hearty seafood stew. Touches of red fruits in the taste and a hint of cinnamon. Very complex taste that kept changing as it opened up. Lovely, lovely wine. |

3/18/2013 - pizzler wrote: 96 pointsThe cork on this one oozed port as I attempted to open it and I feared the worst. Instead, the wine inside was delightful. We decanted and screened it to get the cork parts out. Almost no sediment which was very unusual...only at the very end. A wild color, more red than brown. Excellent vibrant taste from the first sip. Intense flavors. I had the sense that we were still drinking a young wine. |

3/18/2013 - pizzler wrote: 94 pointsBy necessity this was a pop & pour wine and I was prepared to not enjoy it early in the evening. It turned out to be excellent from the first sip. My first thought was how viscus it was, then how deep and fresh the flavors were. It was excellent to the last drop. Bravo. |

1/17/2013 - pizzler wrote: 88 pointsA fine value cava that opens up with airing to match the red fruits nose you get upon opening. It is worth the wait to let it air...I found it to be dry for my taste for about an hour after popping the cork. Beautiful salmon color. Good food pairing cava. |

12/31/2012 - pizzler Likes this wine: 88 pointsI was facinated to try a pre-phylloxera champagne. It made a nice way to welcome in the new year. The nose was intrguing...creamy, with melon and pear notes. The first few sips matched the nose with a healthy dose of citrus. The longer the bottle was open the simpler the taste got until it was all citrus. Still, worth trying again since each bottle is a bit different. |

12/21/2012 - pizzler wrote: 96 pointsA sublime magnum that was delicate enough for seafood appetizers and stood up well with a peppered tuna steak. It was the only wine in recent memory that spewed an aroma several feet away from the bottle (bread dough, citrus). It was good from the first sip (strong citrus) to the last (citrus, creamy, and a hint of cinnamon). If I get another magnum, I'll wait more patiently to drink it as every sip was a facinating evolution. Powerful, balanced...what a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the Mayan calendar and the great run of Kinkead's seafood restaurant. |

9/27/2012 - pizzler wrote: 83 pointsThe least intersting of the three Ridgeview's, too much dosage for the structure. It is what I would have expected of a decent sparkler from a startup...good effort and maybe I'll revisit it in a few years. |

12/14/2012 - pizzler Likes this wine: 88 pointsMy favorite of the three 2009 Rideview's I have tried. It was the driest of the three and while it was mostly a one note wine...citrus with a hint of nougut as it opened up, it was a good note. Nice balance, improved with airing and is one that I would buy again. |
