Tasty CdR. Slightly lush black and red fruits and a little crushed black pepper. A bit simple but easy drinking with barbecued pork ribs.

I don't drink much Zinfandel anymore but damn this was good. Black berries and boysenberry with anise seed, and chocolate accents. Solid acidity too. Just when I was about to write off this variety......

A little on the big side but we enjoyed this bottle. Dark in tone with a charred almost earthy note. It should continue to drink well for a while.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this based on the notes but we enjoyed it. Not a razor sharp in terms of acid but it was ample and thirst quenching. A hint of flint and some saline accent the citrus and green apple. There was also a touch of butterscotch on the finish but not too much. We polished this bottle off in embarrassingly quick fashion on a nice Friday evening on the patio.

No notes, but we both enjoyed this on a hot, early summer night on the patio. Ann liked the intensity of the fruit and I appreciated the acid that offset it. I'll try to pay more attention to the next bottle.

I hardly drink any whites from the US anymore but this is pretty good and interesting. A slight whiff of diesel on the nose that fades with air. Some floral notes too. On the palate the wine is soft textured but then finishes with crisp acidity. Some pear, melon and blanched almond.

I struggle with Riesling that is not Trocken in style. I like the lime and slate notes but the the oily texture, weight and sweetness I struggle with. I can see how this would be a good match with spicy food but I prefer the dry versions for summer sipping. I'll keep trying every once in a while though.

Right from the refrigerator, this was much too cold, and seemed a bit boring and flabby. It really opened up and became more expressive as it neared room temperature. Smells wonderful with salty marine and almond accents. On the palate, there is a bit of richness to the fruit, but it is not tropical. Mostly apple with bit of citrus. Lots of salinity and again a bit of almond. Not laser like in terms of acid, but there is just enough to keep it balanced. We both enjoyed it.

The Favier bottling is one of Ann's favorite wines. This is the first bottle we have tried from the 2011 vintage. Slightly on the leaner/lighter side for this wine and it reminds me a little of the 2008 and 2006 vintages. There is nice acid, red fruits, lots of spice and crushed white pepper. There is just a little alcohol showing through (15.5%). I don't see this as one to age so we will drink our remaining bottles over the next couple years. Ann liked it but didn't swoon over it like she normally does.

Popped and poured. Smells nice with pungent berry fruits, some green leafy/bell pepper notes and a touch of earth. The palate is a bit disappointing after the promising nose. You think there is going to be some depth and more fruit but it is a bit lean, with darker fruit tones, fairly high acid, and light to medium but fine tannin. Some earth, and perhaps some graphite and mineral notes too. 15 minutes in and I am a bit indifferent but the wine is growing on me. Ann hates it and said I can have the rest of her glass. It's too lean in fruit and high in acid for her. I'll see how it does with some air and add more to the note later or tomorrow. On day two, this has put on just a little weight and gained a little texture. Silky and soft but with fairly high acid. It has lost the green notes and now shows some tar and bitter chocolate. I am still surprised at how much fruit there is on the nose. Lots of berries and it almost reminds me of a zin. On the palate though it is more like a barbera. Black fruits, low tannin and high acid. Will try again on day three. I didn't get back to this on day three but today, on day four, this is drinking surprisingly well. I rarely like a wine after it has been open a few days but this is an exception. I'm glad I didn't give up on this on the first day.

Decanted for about three hours. The nose shows lots of mushroom, and some earthy, leathery notes. Very soft on the palate, with almost no tannin. There is quite a bit of plummy fruit, sort of a mix of red and darker fruits. Earthy, with mushroom and very light pencil shavings on the palate. Very nice showing but I think this wine has room for improvement. I'll wait a couple years before opening another.

Popped and poured late in the night so this bottle didn't see much air. Initially very funky on the nose. That quickly blew off but the the nose remained very earthy. Tart, dark fruits on the palate, with soily overtones. The wine is very lean and traditional in style. High acid. More of a food wine than a quaffer. There is about a third of a bottle left to try at lunch today, so I'll add to this note if much changes. I have one remaining bottle that I'll sit on for a while. Better on day two. Still showing some earthy, coffee notes, black fruits and better balance as there seems to be more fruit. Hints of tobacco and mint as well. Needs some air to show its best.

Decanted for a couple hours. Ann and I thought this was very slightly corked as it was very muted, and not showing much of anything. Others in the group, including the guy who brought it, didn't think so. There is just a little left this morning, so I'll give it a try at lunch to see if it changed much.

Grilled some filets tonight and decided at the last minute to open a red. I was in the mood for a Carlisle but Ann said she wanted something lower in alcohol. I went down to the cellar and was shocked to see this one at 12.8%. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the wine tonight but we enjoyed it. Loaded with flavor but offset with nice acid. Didn't notice much tannin. Saved about a third of the bottle so I'll try to add some substance to this note tomorrow. Day 2: last night I re-corked the bottle and stuck it in the refrigerator over night. Tonight there is some spice on the nose, as well as a light coffee, mocha note. The light coffee, milk chocolate note carries through on the palate too but it is in the background. The fruit is mixed in color, and the wine is soft and silky with very light tannin. Light to medium bodied with pretty good acidity. This wine is easy to drink and tasty. I am a fan of the cool 2011 vintage in CA. It's hard for me to say how this wine will age, but it is drinking well right now.
