2012 Pacific Rim Winemakers Riesling Organic Riesling

Columbia Valley more

Pacific Rim always over delivers with their Rieslings. Classic Riesling with a bit of petrol, fresh herbs, honey, apple and pears. Semi sweet on the palate with nice viscosity and length. And ridiculous value at $7.99!

Had this a few weeks ago but remember it like it was yesterday. Surprisingly open for business. Fresh mélange of fruit, mineral, pepper, iron, seaweed and lavender. Bright on the palate tasting fresh and lively with finesse. The finish echo's the wine. In top 3 for N Rhone wines.

Such a interestingly funky wine. There is barnyard note in this that is similar to a touch of brett but not bretty if that makes sense. Oxidized style with funk, brine, citirs a sherry quality and waxy in texture.

2010 Château de Saint-Cosme Gigondas Hominis Fides

Red Rhone Blend more

6/3/2015 - bajayngo wrote: NR

The clouds parted and the birds sang and I said hallelujah, haha. Man was this wine good. Everything that I could hope for in a southern Rhone and really elevated my thoughts on Gigondas although I have already had a love affair with the region. Fresh delicious fruit bouquet but not over ripe accented by all the hallmarks of S Rhone with fig cake, sage brush, melted licorice, reduced orange zest, hot stones, pepper, desert air, herbs de provance and worcestershire. Even though young it was so seamless on the palate with the bright fruit waking your taste buds followed by freshherb accents, nice acids and a bit of stem tannins. Hands down the single best Gigondas I have had to date and sets the standard going forward.

When 1st sniffed it was that high toned, electric pepper, blood orange incense nose that I love from southern Rhone wines. I could smell wines that this forever. On the palate was a different story though, young and blocky with coffee grounds, melted licorice, raspberry paste, chalk and gravel. Opened up after a few hours to reveal more figs, sage brush and red fruits. This on the very upper end with some of my favorite gigondas. Thanks for sharing Motz!

2005 Château Pavie

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more

6/3/2015 - bajayngo wrote: NR

This is the 3rd occasion I've been able to try Pavie and it's always a treat. It was a bit of a mind bender because it was served to us single blind as a gigondas. As you would expect I was confused by the oak treatment, massive tannins and couldn't find the Grenache varietal characteristics. But after the mistake was revealed it made much more sense and we all had a good laugh.

On the nose this was so reduced and almost port-like with layers of concentration and beautiful seasoned oak notes with a WALL of tannins. I luckily held on to my glass of it over 2-3hrs and was able to watch it evolved. Showing more graphite, cherries, dust and leather with time. It took quite some time for the secondary and varietal notes to pop but when they did there was a mineral framework and a mélange of fruits but at this stage it's still very modern in style but ultra complex and a wine of true quality and one that I think will improve with age once the secondary notes come to the forefront. Thank you so much for sharing Motz, it was truly appreciated.

I was taken back a bit when it was revealed to be cdp from St Cosme as most of their wine i've had has been in a more modern style. It was so rustic in structure. Good concentration of dried fruits, basil/fennel, coco dust, cherry and raspberry, celery, sagebrush and long grainy tannins.

Wow did this wine blow me away. I have never had a syrah so rustic and tannic but still came off as varietally correct. Deep dark berries, melted licorice, dust, coffee, celeray seed, horse fur, cherries, coco, seaweed, iron and long grany tannins. Was integrated that of a mature wine but was so complex and was still vibrant. Would have loved to sit down and have with a meal. Thanks for sharing Motz!

Still drinking young but not a sin to open now. Double decanted then slow o'd for a few hours. The classic cornicopia of notes on the nose of mineral, veggies, juniper berries, beef jerky, coffee dust, dill, cherries, blackberry and plum followed by seaweed and a big dose of pepper and baking spices on the finish. Mega mouth feel and finish. I enjoy the Bionic at all stages but am starting to lean toward more aged to show all those secondary characteristics.
