Pinot Noir more

5/18/2015 - Cote d'Or wrote: NR

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs and Day 2
-almost semi-translucent light-med red with a little bricking
-exuberant aromatics out of the gate with some Burg funk cherry wet gravel and a touch of spice; dusty cherry on Day 2
-high acidity, med/med- weight but just enough sappiness to keep it from being shrill, bright red fruit slight medicinal twang cracked pepper on a rocky/minerally backbone, med/med- tannins on respectably long finish; still going strong on Day 2 with dusty tart cherry
-first time with this producer, solid quality, drinking quite well now in a fresh youthful state, likely many pleasant years ahead of it

Sauvignon Blanc more

5/16/2015 - Cote d'Or wrote: NR

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
-translucent pale yellow
-moderately aromatic typical sauvignon blanc grassy herbal
-lowish acidity gives a soft and supple but almost flabby feel, med- weight but becomes sappy and complex after 2 hrs of air and as it warms, mid-palate with abundant soft white fruits ripe pear, not much citrus, moderate length
-first time tasting a Cotat, interesting and likely better in several years, distinctly low acidity for a Sancerre is initially off-putting but is saved by an evolving complex mid-palate

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
-translucent but glowing med gold
-honey, some caramel, wax
-crisp med+ acidity bolsters the sappy med- weight mid-palate with caramel butterscotch floral and pear, quite long with a hint of oak on finish
-really quite lovely as the acidity gives it a verve and freshness on top of the mature elements and oxidative notes, suspect this will be similarly excellent for several more years

Tasted over 2 hrs
-tranlucent pale gold
-rocks, sea water and a bit of lemon
-med acidity picks up to med+ on the backend with air, almost weightless but nearly explosively intense minerals saline and faint citrus with very long finish
-drinking great now but still youthful, much of the '08 baby fat has worn off, this is very Raveneau with such gorgeous mouthfeel, power and elegance without weight, with a bit more depth and complexity this would be a rock solid Grand Cru

-very soft initial entry then med acidity kicks in late, lighter weight that lacks depth but with a linear haunting intense shell of waxy slightly bitter grapefruit lemon with a long finish
