Dark dark purple. Plum, cassis and possibly some woody bark type aromas on the nose. Not a very good first impression in regards to taste, fruit bomb. No mid palette. Light to light medium tannin structure. Not sure if this just needs to open up or it just needs more time. Wish it were better.

Dark ruby red color. Very flat nose overall. Not much at all, some normal bland red fruit. From a taste aspect, typical Cali cab. No fireworks or anything. Some blackberry, some earthy qualities, medium tannins, good mouthfeel. Not a bad, but not a great, $10 cab. Good to bring to a holiday party.

Very interesting nose, citrus, fruity, some faint cassis. Very thin wine in regards to mouth-feel; not a lot of body to it for my liking. Again I get the citrus, some raspberry, some hints of cherry flavored Blow-Pop and a little smoke, kind of bitter though. The bitterness quickly disappears, however. Tannins are just right with this one, nice finish. Decent wine overall and I think it needs to open up a bit.

Had this wine with dinner at Pacifico Restaurant in New Haven, Connecticut. It has a nice deep purple color and is light on the nose. Some dark fruit and berry's but even a little "musty" on the nose as well, in a good way though (if that's possible, sure it is.) Very similar first impressions regarding the taste, very good mouth feel, not too chewy, smooth finish. Pleasing berriness; some blueberry, blackberry and some plum possibly too. I am not a big fan of merlot, but this was a very decent one (would have been better at wine store $$$ and not restaurant $$$). I especially liked it when I was drinking it with the braised short rib empanadas! Yum!

Nice deep color. Uneventful nose, a slight burn of alcohol. Good mouthfeel, chewy. Dark fruit and berries on initial tastes. Not too bad. Interested to try this tomorrow after it opens up a bit. Good price point, good wine.

Chocolate and dark cherry, dark fruity nose. First taste, initially a bit thin and lacking. Opened up a bit after a few sips to some cherry, wood, bittersweet chocolate...still a bit thin and "ehhh". Nothing really mid palate but then BANG! Holy chewiness! Very tannic, chewy and dry finish that lasted for about 10-12 seconds. I like 'em when they finish this way, so that fact kind of boosted the rating up a bit for me, but overall; the nose and lack of mid-palate left me wanting more. Good wine overall.

Poured and drank at room temp. Honestly, the nose was rather disappointing. I was struggling to get anything from it. Initially, I was able to sense a hint of pear, and some general light fruit scents, like green apple; but that was it. I kept trying and trying to sniff, but really could get anything else....boo. First taste was fairly smooth and fruity. It has a fresh green and yellow orange fruit to it. Again, like the nose, difficult to pinpoint, but I do agree with some others about the pear and peach. It is very pleasant and smooth, fairly well structured. Almost none to none at all, effervescence. Most of the PG's I have had, always have a hint or more of it, but this does not. It finishes a little on the hot side (+14% alc.). Despite how this note sounds fairly negative, I rather enjoyed this wine. If the nose opened up a bit more and didn't finish quite so hot, it would definitely fall into the +90 category; however with these factors, 86+.

Second Day = Post 3 Hour decant: WOW, what a difference a little decant does for this. The nose is about the same, although it seemed a little more hot than yesterday. Tasting notes are about the same as far as flavors go, but the BIG DIFFERENCE is that the whole wine came together. It was a WHOLE lot smoother than the first day pop'n'pour. Great wine. Would definitely purchase again.

First day = Pop'n'Pour : Nice dark purple opaque color. On the nose; dark berries, smoke, 'Gonzo Grape Bubble-Yum', hints of subtle vanilla & woods. First taste; black fruit, that Bubble-Yum again, but that's about it; not too much. The mouth feel is mildly oily. Tannins are a bit tight, but I am going to attribute that to the PnP instead of decanting. The finish is only around 10-12 seconds...not really 'awe-inspiring' by any means, but decent. For a first time pop-n-pour, pretty good really. I think this one will be even better tomorrow after a 2 hour decant. I will re-note again after the second tasting.

Very pale gold color; nearly bordering on slightly yellow tinted clear color (same thing? who knows really?) The nose kept me coming back...and back...and back...and back, trying to pinpoint what it was. At first it was almost like a sweet gasoline component, then after another minute or two of smelling, I kept trying to pinpoint what the sweetness component is...hold on, one more time.....ok, some Green Apple Jolly Rancher, yeah; that was definitely it. Now on to first tastes; nice crisp acidity, and again, that Green Apple Jolly Rancher is really in full force here. It has a nice almost creamy mouth-feel to it at the start and then transitions to a cheek puckering acidic bite; but not to harsh. It is fairly well balanced, despite it's one/two dimensional flavor. Very little mid-palate, if any for that matter and the finish is about 13-17 seconds, but fairly unremarkable. For the price, eh...could have been a bit better, it might still be a little young (I think), and I would definitely consider trying this again in about 2-3 years. But I am still new, so what the frick do I know? LOL.

1st Night: Decanted for 2 hours. I actually think it was served too cold. The room was very cold due to a cold spell that swept across New England. The reason I think this was the nose was SOOOOO subdued for a Merlot. It almost had nothing on the nose at all, I was quite surprised. First taste was also quite bland, so I won't even finish this note....(see second night's tasting).

2nd Night: Was already decanted yesterday. Also, the bottle was moved to a different (warmer room) and definitely made a difference. It has a beautiful dark, nearly opaque maroon color. On the nose; some dark cherry, black licorice and a hint of smoke. I actually lost a lot on the palate however. It takes a steep dive in taste compared to it's nose. It was very one-dimensional unfortunately. Some bittersweet chocolate initially, some smoke and some hints of dark fruits (though I can't pinpoint which ones, sorry). The black licorice from the nose peeks through in the mid-palate. It has a very weak finish. It ends in about 10 seconds and finishes very bitter for the last 5 seconds.

Overall: You know, for the price point, you can't really complain I suppose. I only paid $9 for this Merlot and to be honest, I have had worse Merlot's for twice as much cash. Would I buy this one again though? Probably not, I would prefer to spend the cash on a Ribera Del Duero.

Decanted for 1 hour prior to pouring. Very typical PN color; dark but pale red, able to see fingers through the backside. Nose is very bland. I really had to try to smell much of anything. I know I am just finishing up with a cold, but really, I smelled very little. First taste: fairly tart fruit. Very little mid-palate. Honestly, pretty one-dimensional. Good tannin structure though. It goes from a tart fruit in the beginning, skips the mid-palate, the tannins then kick in, but not too harsh; mild chewiness. A little bit of mouth puckerin' action and then ends with about a 10-second finish. The "one-dimension'ality'" of this wine and the lack of any nose at all really hurts this PN. Too bad, I had good hopes for this one.

Brought to a party. Decanted for 3 hours prior. From what I remember, initially the wine was too cold (sitting in the car). It had a strong alcohol bite in the beginning and some tart fruits. I let it sit for a while to get near room temp. I am so glad I did. Now, once at room temp, it was much more enjoyable. Some nice black fruits on the first taste. The alcohol mellowed out and the finish was smooth. Sorry, wish I had better recall of it. I do know that once it got to ideal conditions, it was pretty good.

This was a pop and pour with about 15 minutes in glass before I picked up the glass again. Beautiful deep purple color. Hot nose with some blackberry hints. First taste; definitely some cherry, blackberry, vanilla and smoke. Very light chewiness, smooth tannins and despite the higher alcohol content, not too much heat in the finish. Very smooth, fruity and tasty zin. Would definitely consider purchasing again. As a matter of fact, we went and bought some for part of a gift! I would like to decant this the next time for a while and see what happens.

***UPDATE: *** Second day; decanted for 3 hours prior to opening (had vacuvin'd it the night before). Much better post-decanting. It definitely smoothed the wine out and opened it up. The dark fruits really showed some strength in the first taste and the nose cooled off a lot! Highly recommend a lengthy decant before consuming this one. I have adjusted the rating secondary to the second tasting (Pop'n'Pour=88; 3'hour'decant=90)

Has a pale pink/orange'ish' hue. Very fine bubbles in the glass. The nose is very ... bland. Possibly a hint of red fruit. First taste, however, is delightful! Defintitely a burst of strawberries and then moves into green apples. The mousse is wonderful. It just engorges your mouth with the wonderful effervescence. It does have some 'smooth' acidity. Nothing too harsh for me. Nice finish, around 20 seconds. Awesome QPR for a sparkler. Will definitely look for this one again.

Color: Deep dark red. Nose: Dark red fruit. Very strong nose. First taste: Very fruity and sweet, initially. Then the dryness hits you. At first, the tannins really overwhelmed any flavor qualities i noticed, but after the 2nd/3rd taste, it grew on me. I actually liked that mouth puckering feeling from the tannins. The mouth feel was pretty smooth, not very thin. The finish was mediocre, around 10 seconds for me, but I was always left wanting another taste. Near the end of the glass, I did start to get some hints of vanilla that everyone else is talking about, but not as strong for me. Decent cab, but not grr-r-r-r-eat!

Hmm. This is my second day with this one open. I initially popped and poured. This time (2nd day) I poured and let it sit for about 1.5 hours. Dark maroon and clear. Nothing really striking initially on the nose for me. Maybe some underlying hints of some red fruit, but not much. First taste impressions: tartness; still. I definitely agree with the others about the cranberries in this one. Then some sweet undertones poke their heads through. Tannins were moderate and the finish goes back to the bitter side. The finish lasted around 10 seconds for me and never really left me 'wanting' that second glass again. Not bad, not great, almost pretty good.

OK. This now has a bit more age behind it compared to the previous users notes, so I think it may have improved....a little. Color is dark and inky, even at the rim, quite nice. Nose is rather flat. There really is not a whole lot going on there nasally. First taste impression: It definitely has some dark fruit going on, possibly a little smoke; not much else. It also is lacking in any mid-palate. It goes straight to the finish which last about 10 seconds, if that; taste transitions from a dark, smokey fruit in the beginning to Gonzo Grape Bubbalicious Bubble Gum at the end. Moderate tannins and a slightly bitter "last hurrah". Overall pretty flat and fruity.

Dark dark maroon color. Very beautiful. Earthy, smoky nose with a little fruit. First taste: Fruity sweetness which transitions to a smoky and dark, maybe even some chocolate/cocoa as well. On second day (the last of the bottle) I even noted some hints of Luden's Honey Cough Drops; but that's a good thing. Medium tannins, mild to moderate 'bite' on the sides of your tongue. Not too dry either. Pleasant long finish, nearly 20-30 seconds. Very well structured and a pleasant surprise.

Pleasant, subtle nose. Very fruity and smooth start. Continues onto the mid-palette. Almost has a slight effervescent quality to it. Very smooth finish. Tannins are weak and only present themselves in the back of the throat at the end. Lingers in the mouth for just the right amount of time. Looking now for the cheapest case price, because this is not really a cheap one. (in my area - around $24/bottle) Yes, although it is a good Pinot Grigio, I think there are plenty of equal quality wines out there that you could find for $5-7 less.

Pleasant and smooth start. With first sip, starts very mild..nearly "watered down". As soon as you start to swallow, the tannins kick in and actually becomes very bold, nearly harsh and biting. A little bit too much of an acidic finish for my personal taste. If it finished as smooth as it had started, it would be on my "Buy Again" list.

When I was alot younger and looking to just get drunk and oh yeah, felt like a good vomit...a friend of mine gave me a bottle of this drink called "Purple Passion". Pure nastiness in a bottle. This honey wine is only a tad bit better than that.
The nose is initially overwhelmed with aromas of alcohol. Needless to say, it lingers in the nostrils for quite a while. Upon the first taste, really not too bad. Fruity, sweet...quite pleasant really. Then it hits you. WHOA! That is some NASTY aftertaste. The alcohol just overwhelms your senses and has an acidic taste and burn. Too much alcohol (16.7% I believe). Definitely not a "buy again", probably not even a "finish the bottle". One glass was enough for me.
