7/21/2004 - texaswino wrote: 95 pointsThis bottle is drinking much better than the last one I had about a year ago. perfectly aged and delicious. A wonderful bouquet of smoke, red and black fruits and licorice. Still deep, rich and full of body on the palate. Low acid, but the tannins still have nice grip. I would bet this wine will last for 5-10 more years if properly stored. Yummy stuff! |

Pure varietal flavor in this wine. Lovely example of Zinfandel fruit. Drinking exceptionally well now. Drink over the next 5 years. |

7/12/2004 - texaswino wrote: 90 pointsVery interesting wine here. A combination of Cab (47%), Syrah (45%), Petite Verdot (3%), and Zinfandel (5%). 15.4% alchohol. Ripe, rich, meaty flavors come through on the nose and the palate. Smooth, but with plenty of grip to the plum and blackbery flavors. I would recommend decanting for an hour or so because this was better the second day. |

7/12/2004 - texaswino wrote: 93 pointsI love this wine. Well, I love most Pride Mtn. wines. Great aromatics of plums, chocolate and brown sugar. Explosive mouthfeel and flavors of coffee, plums and dark chocolate. Firm tannins and a great finish. One of the better merlots available today. Probably the best of the Pride merlots that I have tasted. (sadly, I have not had any of their reserves). I would recommend decanting for at least an hour and then enjoy!! 93+ |

7/10/2004 - texaswino wrote: 92 pointsA delicious Merlot. I have to thank my friend Charles for turning me on to this wine back in January. Made by Robert Foley's assistant winemaker, this is a great surprise. Deep rich and full bodied wine with lots of cassis and bitter chocolate flavors. Very cab-like in its flavor profile. Plum, cassis, chocolate and very evident tannins make for a wonderful wine. 92 pts. Drink now through 2012. |

7/29/2005 - texaswino wrote: 93 pointsTasted immediately to get an early fix. Aromas of black raspberries and coffee. Similar notes on the palate with sweet oak and more coffee notes. After an hour or so in the decanter the flavors really started to bloom. Plum, blackberry, and more coffee notes. Nice tannins and dark chocolate notes on the finish. The 2001 is a bit more intense and rich but this is a very nice merlot in my book. I would rate it 92-93 now with a chance to go higher with a little time. Should drink well for 8-10 years. I am a big fan of Pride Mountain wines. |

7/4/2004 - texaswino wrote: 89 pointsOpened today, 7/4/04. Bottle has been properly stored since release. Capsule and cork in excellent condition. Aromas of a well aged Beringer PR, olive, currant, hint of mint. The palate is nice but the fruit has definitely faded. Still very nice with plum, olive, currant. The finish is a bit dry but not really tannic or harsh by any means. This wine is somewhat past it's prime but still a nice drink. I wish I would have had this 5-7 years ago. I would rate it about 89 now. I have tasted BPR back to 86, every vintage except the 87 and 88. I would like to give the 87 a try sometime as I hear it is still holding up very well. |

6/28/2004 - texaswino wrote: 95 pointsNeeds a few hours in the decanter before it shows its stuff. Then ....WOW. Rich nose is almost port like with hints of dark chocolate and grand marnier. Lots of tannins in the finish. This will be a great, great wine in 5-7 years. It has a long life ahead of it. The rest of mine will not be opened for 5 more years at least. |

6/1/2004 - texaswino wrote: 93 pointsI went through lots of this wine last year.It was one of the wines that turned me on to Aussie Shiraz. I love the big, ripe fruit and the firm tannins of this beauty. Full bodied, with lots of blackberry fruit and a lush mouthfeel. Is it over the top? Yes, but I love it. It hasn't lost a step since last year. I like it almost as well as the 2001 Reserve. |

5/20/2004 - texaswino wrote: 91 pointsDeep rich and packed with berries, licorice and chocolate notes. This wine is even better on the second day. It has nice acidity on the finish also. There is a flavor I can't put my finger on but I know I like this wine. I would agree that this is a great value for the price but I would also put it a notch below the Carla's Vineyard. It may be a better value though. |

5/19/2004 - texaswino wrote: 90 pointsPurchased on sale from Red Coleman's 3/2004 for $39.99 (regualr price 59.99). Opened and poured into decanter at 4pm. Initial taste is tight and full of oak with a tannic bite. By 6:30 the fruit is coming out and showing nicely. Plums, cassis and now the tannins are much sweeter. It has smoothed out quite a bit. If I had another bottle I would wait until 2006/7 to try it again. |
