The off putting component is green oak which is out of balance with the fruit or if I’m being generous maybe the wine is just too young and the oak will integrate with time, but I’m not betting on it. |

12/28/2020 - fine137 wrote: 95 pointsThis is drinking at peak, at least to my taste. Bit cloudy, maybe some stem inclusion. Muddled cherry and spice are prominent. Without the ripeness, would be in Vosne. But it’s just got too much fruit in a good way. No cola or other off putting new world Pinot flavors. It’s great, wish I had more. |

9/17/2018 - fine137 wrote: 92 pointsThis wine is a bit frustrating. Nose is good, not great, right off the bat, but it just doesn't progress much with air and was basically the same, as was the palate, during the 3 hours over which it was consumed. I still think it is going places, but not for a while. |

6/2/2018 - fine137 wrote: 95 pointsDrinking it at peak, although it may have further positive development. Personally I wouldn’t wait. A bit of bitterness that fully resolved after a 1 hour decant. Super elegant and restrained, for Napa, I didn’t get a ton of the Rutherford dust, but instead a distinct floral note which really stood out from the typical cab flavors, which are there as well. Fruit is more in the red spectrum than black or purple. I don’t sense any manipulation in this wine, there is an overwhelming sense of purity. Sadly this is my last bottle, would love to have shared it with my wine snob friends as a shining example of what Cali can do. |

4/2/2018 - fine137 wrote: 96 pointsThis is surprisingly lean for the vintage but it really works for this wine. It is Margaux-like in nose and on the palate, at least for the first hour or so, then it begins to reveal its California roots, but never in an over the top way. The wine is ruby in color and red and black fruit in profile, violets graphite, cassis and embers, long finish. |

5/27/2017 - fine137 wrote: 93 pointsDrinking great at the moment, will go at least 5 more years. Nose could take me to Burgundy, but palate is definitely new world. Nice minerality, flinty, bit of gunpowder, orchard fruit profile, but a bit of pineapple sneaks in as well. Oak is there but well integrated. Still very fresh unlike most of the older Rhys chards I have had, which have come off as highly oxidized. |
