Wild ferment, funky, muted red berry and sweet spice, slightly stalky notes, lots going on the nose. In the mouth the wine is juicy and fresh with berry and cherry fruit, slight front of mouth grip on the palate. Long and refreshingly lovely.

Vinteloper (United Cellars, 100 William Street, Sydney): Medium plus intensity aromas of black cherry, berry and plum - quite compote - cream, vanilla, slightly herbaceous, rich and worked but quite perfumed as well. More of the same on the palate, dense and sweet spiced tannins, vanilla, cream, touch of salinity, a bit warm, pleasant. Plentiful American oak here which is not an issue for me.

leather, cream, slight vanilla, sweet cherry and plum with charcuterie and slight peppery spice. On the palate the wine is creamy and rich with leather, slight dusty earth notes, cherry, plum, cream, vanilla and sweet spice more present here which lends a touch of a fruit cake quality.

slight violets and spiced plums also a touch of dusty spice. Vanilla, cream and something like wet clay and rock. Palate is more bordeauxesque but with quite a bit of alcohol warmth on the back palate despite a relatively subdued 13% alcohol). Tannins are fine and the wine is almost tartly juicy - it really needs food. it's quite youthful for a 12 y/o. With food (lamb chops, veg, puy lentils) it does hit it's straps though - the acidity is calmed and the wine 'rounds' out and becomes sweeter and quite modern. Rather nice.

juicy and fleshy and rather glorious. previous notes touch on the primary, secondary and tertiary characteristics and there is nothing drastically new to report here but simply wonderful. But this is coming together more and more over time, harmonious balance of rich ripe fruit, blocky and broad mid palate. Great QPR for me as well

2016 Burgundys (My place, parramatta, sydney): From Coravin. On the nose it's dense and brooding, a contained beast with dark berry fruit, especially cherry, spice, cream, vanilla...quite youthful still. More of the same on the palate with quite thick, savoury, tannins. With time it opens with black cherry notes on the nose and becomes more juicy and spicy on the palate. Very long. Hmm

In the mouth more of the same, quite tannic as well...drying tannins in fact. It lacks a bit of freshness compared to other Burgundies this evening.

2016 Burgundys (My place, parramatta, sydney): From Coravin. On the nose, quite stalky over red fruit and biscuit. Almost aniseed and spice. It's quite juicy as well with slightly sour fruit. Better than I remember it being...Hmm. Actually, with more time in the glass this rounds out and improves. Settles down and the jagged edges disappear. Still stalky but nicer. More time I think.

2016 Burgundys (My place, parramatta, sydney): From Coravin. On the nose slightly sweet red cherry and plum backed by very slight stalkiness. A bit of cream and cedar and spice. It smells really lovely. In the mouth the wine is juicy, with initial sweet cherry that slightly sours and is joined by some very subtle herbaceous notes. Some silky tannins and gentle spice. This wine really is wonderfully balanced and refreshing.

From Coravin. Brambles and plums, star anise, soy sauce and a slight metallic notes initially then an earthy pungency and a touch of funk married to warm vanilla and biscuit on the nose. In the mouth it's more juicy than fleshy with warming alcohol and savoury blackcurrant fruit. Tannins are slightly floury but smooth none the less. A touch of spice joins on the long finish. I understand the ethereal elegance of Burgundy but Bordeaux just consistently delivers at all price points: this relatively cheap St. Estephe is a prime example.

From Coravin. Initial washed rind soft cheese note blows off to reveal blackcurrant, leather, cigar box and cedar. Plummy notes and a slightly dusty spice. I'm even getting some chocolate and cherry as well on the nose. In the mouth though the fruit is more sour with blackcurrant and plum, floury tannins. It's quite austere after the nose but fleshes out and gains a little generosity with time. Hmm.

From Coravin. Cherry and raspberry and very slight red currant fruit on the nose with cedar and slight earth, touches of mocha and that Pinot nose. In the mouth the wine is fleshy, the fruit is savoury, fresh and long, the tannins are silky and the wine is harmonious though not, I'd say, profound. It's not going to set the world on fire but I simply find it's sapid, limpid quality incredibly desirable.

From Coravin. Black rather than red berries, slight coffee grinds and stalks, autumnal left notes, herbaceousness and ash. In the mouth it's almost blackberry fruit, tangy, slight sapply stalkinesss and a bitter but fine tannin all carry on the long finish. Quite savoury and, with time, a star anise quality comes to the fore. Hmm.

From Coravin. Strawberry over muted stalky notes and touches of ash. bit of cherry, cedar and the beginnings of earthy and dusty notes. On the palate sweet and sour berries, tongue coating grip then a fair whack of alcohol warmth accompanies the sharp fruit on the medium plus length finish. Meh for me on this tasting.
