Half. A lovely, bright, vibrant ruby. Nose seems quite evolved with a slightly pruney element to the fruit a touch of caramel. Palate initially quite tight with a sense of redcurrant fruit, but lots of avidity and a spiky feel. Hmm, hope this is just an odd bottle or a curiously awkward phase. **

Very dark and dense deep ruby to blackcurrant. Classic blackcurrant and earthy density on the nose pointing to Coonawara. Years of life ahead of this — seems to be developing at a glacial pace. Smooth, quite mineral and with moderately grippy but fine tannins currently. ***(*)

Dark and glossy. Cherry-led dark red to almost blue/black fruit. A good mineral bite. Some liquorice or something almost slightly woody on the finish, but it doesn't develop further and seems to abate. ***

Mid ruby with a touch of garnet around the edges. Fresh and vibrant with good acidity. A smokiness of Lapsang coupled with Lilly developed classic orange peel, and a sense of worn leather and fireside spice. Silky to finely velvety in texture. Mid weight. Long and lovely. Not a top bottle of this, but a very good one. ****

Aligoté @ The Square (The Square): Fresh, clean, light on the nose with a touch of mint. Floral, light elegant, but a subtle intensity. Very rounded in a complete rather than blowsy manner. Long, elegant, silky. Very fine. More harmonious than the d'Auvenay if less exuberant and striking. ****

Aligoté @ The Square (The Square): A little less harmonious than the 12. A little more edgy with a whiff of swimming pool initially. Opens up to a hazel nut richness though less intensely so than the d'Auvenay. Similar profile to the 12. A little cleaner and slightly more linear. ****

Aligoté @ The Square (The Square): Darker colour. Mid straw. Gorgeous nose, reminds me of mature Leflaive. Lots of toasty hazelnut and oatmeal biscuit. A whiff of oak too. Wonderfully rich and full and intense. A five star nose. The acidity and fresh line comes through on the back end. Long, but lacks a little weight and intensity through the back end. ****1/2

Aligoté @ The Square (The Square): Some discussion as to whether it's corked. Maybe just the occasional whiff but it feels more bottle stinky than corked. Opens to a rounded vanilla, quite rich, but cut with a touch of the vegetal. A touch of honey with air. Lots of interest here. ****
