Best at warm temperature, exhibiting notes of lime, citrus, salt and faint herbs, refreshingly dry yet not abrasively bone-dry. After 30+ minutes it also began developing some petrol notes on the nose alongside the quince skin bouquet. Terribly quaffable, with a strong mineral core, and a short-to-medium saline finish. And an outstanding QPR. 13.5% ABV.
(I enjoyed this a tad better than the previous vintage as it seems just a bit richer.)

Medium-full body with some glycerin. Notes of dark cherries and dust at first. Opened up over time, revealing more dusty earth, then sweaty leather. Seemed to reach its peak about 45 minutes in, then it started disintegrating slowly 60 minutes in, seemingly hotter and exhibiting a thinner, medium profile marked by notes of violets and hay, resembling really more of a Southern Rhone. 13.5% ABV.
Should be in its prime in 2016.

Wow, this really started singing after 45 minutes! Vanilla oak, citrus and sea spray on the nose; medium bodied, with citrus, salinity, a hint of lime and understated vanilla oak on the lightly creamy palate; the medium+ acidity turns this into an outstanding food wine. Paired great with salmon with a miso-mirin glaze. 14.5% ABV.

A bit sirupy at first, then the acidity started coming out after 15 minutes, after which the wine really started singing 45 minutes in.
Medium bodied with a silky mouthfeel, and understated notes of tar, ripe cherries, and green stems. Medium acidity. Excellent entry on the palate but it's falling short and on the rather flat backpalate and finish. 80 minutes in it started developing strong green Bell pepper notes in one of the emptier glasses, whereas the more full one developed a sour cherry component. The wine appeared to start breaking down slowly 90+ minutes in. 13% ABV.
A great QPR at $20 overall.

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more

5/15/2015 - joraesque wrote: 89 points

A more feminine Sauternes that comes through almost off-dry. Nicely aromatic due in part to the Muscadelle add-on, while the Sauvignon Blanc is apparent on the nose with its gooseberry notes as well as on the backpalate and short finish -- no Botrytis whatsoever. It won't hold up to foie gras, but perhaps it could finish a meal accompanied by a not too sweet apricot tart; best served as an aperitif though. I think 6+ months will help with integration making for a more seamless finish. 13.5% ABV.

Light, pale red color, and a light-to-medium body; outstanding Cabernet Franc bouquet of barnyard, earth, and Bell peppers; low-to-medium acidity (enough to make for a great pairing with roasted chicken and potatoes) and a light-to-medium glycerin-driven mouthfeel; light Anjou notes on the palate, with flavors of Bell pepper, licorice, and strawberries, then more Bell pepper and strawberries on the long finish. Drank well for 90+ minutes. 11.5% ABV. I really liked this wine...

Very closed right upon opening, but it began opening up after only 5 minutes of air, revealing more bitter cherry notes on the palate as well as some unexpected plastic fumes (on both the nose and palate) akin to what one would find in aged Rieslings. Somewhat silky after 30 minutes and pretty enjoyable overall, but nowhere near a home run... was just ok. Began breaking down after 90 minutes.

Top of the cork was moldy, and while the bottom looked ok the wine showed notes of mushrooms and wet cardboard upon opening. After 10+ minutes of air the palate began exhibiting notes of sandalwood on the palate in addition to the funky cardboard which got stronger on the backpalate and finish... it thus appears to be a corked bottle from JJ Buckley.
Update: JJ Buckley did do right by offering a credit for the respective amount.

Began to shine after 35+ minutes, and drank well for another 1+ hours thereafter. An utterly tasty Pinot exhibiting notes of sour cherry marmalade and sweet mint, the latter one particularly through the medium+ finish. Acidity is relatively low but there is enough of it to keep the juice from coming through as cloying. I enjoyed this bottling better than my girlfriend, so I'm looking forward to drinking the other bottle all by myself... 13.7% ABV.

Smells akin to a Northern Rhone right after opening, with a strong effervescent component on the palate like young juice that's just finished fermenting. With oxidation it gains complexity, revealing notes of blueberries, blackberries, hibiscus, hints of cocoa nibs, and some mulling spices particularly on the finish where the red clay soil also comes out strongly. After 25 minutes the flavors on the palate transition to nuttiness and horse saddle for a brief moment, then cedar notes become dominant on both the nose and palate, with some brief white peppercorn on the backpalate; also Calvados-like flavors. Upon refilling the glass 35 minutes in the profile of the wine in the bottle turned out to be a mix between the early "just fermented" stage and the latter cedar development, with understated notes of limestone and sandstone on the nose and an increasingly tart component on the palate, somewhere between dry hibiscus and sweetened dry cranberries.
About 100 minutes in it then shifted to a much dryer and leaner flavor profile driven by notes of red pepper and bitter cherry Jell-O. At this point the juice started heading downhill.
A wine to contemplate for certain overall, with a surprisingly low 13.5% ABV for an Aussie, which explains why this isn't labeled as a Shiraz.

A nontraditional CdP indeed, without any garrigue or herbal notes whatsoever. Juicy and terribly quaffable without being soft. Great aromatics from the get-go, but the palate needed 40 minutes before it started opening up. Drank well for 2+ hours thereafter, however the bouquet was best during the first 60 minutes.
