Coravin'd for 2 hours. A little murky but a thin clear rim. Medium color. There's a unique note on the nose--camphor, rosemary? Plus smoky herbs and earthy, sweet spices. A little thin on the palate but gently sweet with flavors of red and black fruit with baking spices. A little warm, too, this is a little awkward and I'm not sure it will pull it all back together. Drink now through 2018.

A Pair of Carmenere (My House, Waterbury, Vermont with Marcel): Coravin'd for 2 hours. A bit murkier than the Montes, this too is purple/black, opaque. The nose is classy with a potpourri of dried spices, flowers and a complex range of red and black fruit aromas. Excellent, silky texture is polished and elegant leading to rich flavors of ripe black fruit, licorice and pan-roasted spices. Great persistence on the finish, this is a really good showing. Drink now through 2024.

A Pair of Carmenere (My House, Waterbury, Vermont with Marcel): Coravin'd for 2 hours. Very darkly colored, right to the very thin, clear rim. Earthy nose with just a touch of funk, burnt black spices and black fruit aromas. Bright and focused on entry, the flavors are lively and focused with mostly black fruit, licorice, wood spice and ripe tannins. Persistent on the palate with good richness and concentration, this will probably continue to improve with more time in the cellar. Drink 2018 to 2022.

Deep clear golden color. The nose is fresh with notes of citrus, minerals, stone fruit skin. Rich and viscous on entry with flavors of exotic citrus, baked apple and roasted nuts. Gently sweet with no signs of pre-mox, this is fully mature. The finish lingers nicely and invite another taste. Drunk with a sigh of relief as I know others have had problems with this bottling. Drink up.

8/7/2015 - jfagan Likes this wine: 92 points

Decanted 2 hours. Deeply colored. Thin clear rim. Bright and savory nose includes red and black fruit, cinnamon and other sweet spices. On the palate this has rich and ripe flavors of both red and black cherries with good acidity and structure. It is one of the longer-lived 2006s and is showing great right now but it is no danger of "falling off the cliff". Now through 2018.

Coravin'd for 2 hours. Crimson purple/black just past the the thin, clear rim. Lovely nose with lavender, smoke, touch of leather, and roasted spices. Medium bodied texture with flavors of licorice, black plum and cooked down raspberries. More Old World that the 2012 North Coast (tasted side by side), this has a lively palate impression, seamless balance and a nice warm finish. I wine you can really cozy up to. Stunning value, for sure. Drink now to 2020.

Coravin'd for 2 hours. Purple/black, right to the rim. Opaque. Rather closely held with notes of smoked meat, lavender, pan-roasted spices. Firm, young but nicely balanced, the initial flavors feature mostly black fruit. This is very polished and complex yet still rather primary. An excellent Syrah that is a bit more "New World" that the 2010 (tasted side-by-side) but not all jammy or over ripe. Drink 2018-2021

Light yellow. Gorgeous nose of smoke, minerals and tropical fruit. Dense and viscous on the palate but bright and lively. Layers of tropical fruit flavors are lifted by bright acidity and a strong mineral nerve. The finish goes on and on. From 60-70 year old vines that are interplanted with the Noir. Very impressive! Drink now through 2019.

Brilliant yellow/gold. Forthcoming aromas of dried citrus peel, roasted nuts and smoke open the door to flavors of dried pineapple and exotic honey. Rich, viscous and full bodied this vintage is delicious and long. The acidity has dropped out a bit and I don't see this getting any better. Drink up.

Coravin'd for an hour. This bottle had been previously "accessed" over a year ago. Totally opaque, "black hole" color with a very thin, purple-tinged rim. A high-toned nose of pan roasted Indian spices, smoked sage and anise. Viscous and soft on the palate , the flavors include licorice-tinged black and red fruit--bright and liveley--with crisp acidity and bakers chocolate-like tannins. Quite long and dry on the finish. A remarkable first effort. Drink now through 2018.

I put down a mixed case of Carmenere a few year ago just to see how they age. This was the first I've had since. Deep, dark color with a thin clear rim. Nose of savory herbs, licorice and black fruit. Viscous on entry with firm flavors of black currant, roasted spice. Quite full bodied and a bit warm, there is a firm backbone of tannins. The flavors are long and fresh. An impressive example. Drink now to 2020.

Splash decanted. Medium color, wide clear rim. Gorgeous nose of Christmas spices, savory herbs and mostly red fruit aromas. Bright and lively on the palate with focused red berry and sweet spice flavors that are still rather taut and primary with tart cherry and pomegranate elements. There's a nice sweetness to the palate, ample acidity and structure. This could still use a bit more cellars time. This is the last of many 2006s that I have more than a couple of bottles left. Drink 2017 to 2024.

Deep yellow in color. Intense saline, mineral nose is Chablis-like but with some more wild elements. Bone dry but richly textured on the palate with mineral-driven flavors of citrus zest, peach skin and quince. There's plenty of stuffing and significant tannins which would lead me to believe that this would age gracefully. I would love to throw this into a tasting of Grand Cru Chablis as a ringer. Drink now through 2019--maybe longer.

Corvin'd into a glass for 2 hours before tasting. Medium dark color with a thin, clear rim. The nose is very savory with roasted sage, autumn leaves and dried flowers. With swirling some sweeter elements emerge. Bright and tangy on entry, this wine has flavors of tart red cherries, cranberry, spice and smoked herbs. A recent note on CT from BDAnna compares this to Nebbiolo and I can see that although without the tannic grip of that variety. Unique and interesting. More cerebral than hedonistic. Drink soon.

Brilliant deep yellow/gold with some flashy highlights. The nose shows honey, crushed rocks with an almost saline element. Rich but dry on the palate with flavors of honey and citrus lifted by good acidity. The finish is long and satisfying. Probably won't see much improvement but in very nice spot now.

Coravin'd and tasted shortly thereafter. Deeply colored with no signs of its age. Smoky, ripe nose with some earthy elements lead to a nicely sweet, ripe palate impression with flavors of ripe black cherry, licorice and roasted Asian spices. Full bodied with good freshness and remarkable balance for its age, this is in a very nice place and is a great example of what is now a better known appellation. Drink now through 2018.

Coravin'd for 2 hours. Deep purple/black right to a very thin clear rim. Smoking sage, anise and cooked black fruit are just part of the aromatic show. A very rich, soft and velvety texture greets the palate leading to bright, juicy flavors of fresh black fruit, roasted spices and a citrus-like high note. The acidity is lively and the tannins are all but fully resolved, I would drink this soon while the balance is excellent. Now through 2017.

Disgourged May 2009. I used to be in the habit of buying Bolli Sp Cuvee and realease every year and putting down for 5 years of so. This one has been in my cellar for nearly 6 years and is "spot on". Deep burnished gold with fine, light stream of tiny bubbles. The aroma evokes preserved lemons, honey and ginger. Gently sweet on the palate with rich, ripe flavors of orange blossom honey, ginger and roasted nuts. Long and profound with decent acidity, this was well worth the wait! Drink now to 2018.

Opened for an hour or so and then decanted for 2 hours. Some fine sediment. Deep purple/black right to the thin, clear rim. Ripe, smoky, savory nose had elements of sage, black fruit and lots of savory herbs. Rich, viscous but lively on the on entry with flavors of dark fruit that's nicely sweet with very well integrated acidity and soft ripe tannins. The finish is long and perfectly balanced with power coming through at the end. I think this "spot on" right now but is in no danger of falling off the cliff anytime soon. Drink now through 2018.

From Morgan's first vintage as Bedrock. I remember tasting a barrel sample of this with him in May of 2008 at Lake Tahoe. Coravin'd 2 hours. Deep purple black right to the a very thin clear rim. A very rich, soft and velvety texture greets the palate leading to bright, juicy flavors of fresh black fruit, roasted sweet spices and a hint of citrus oil. Decanted for about 2 hours. Medium color with some brick dust at the otherwise clear rim. High toned nose of airy berries, sweet and Asian spice and a wiff of oak. The palate impression is svelte and focused with bright flavors of cassis, and plum with a gently sweet element. There are very fine tannins for support and excellent freshness to the flavors. This is a very pretty and sophisticated Cabernet that is subtle but fine. Drink now--2020.

Decanted for 2 hours. Some coarse sediment. Medium dark color with a thin, purple-tinged clear rim. Spice, brush and savory herbs on the nose lead to flavors of black plum, sweet spice and blackberry pie. Bright and juicy with good acidity and some ripe tannins, this is "spot on" right now but should continue to evolve for a few more years. Drink now through 2018.

Decanted about an hour. Medium read-through color. Light for Zin. Fresh, fruit-forward nose displays smoky fresh berries and sweet spice. The vibrant and juicy flavors include black raspberry, strawberry with some briars and underbrush. Mouthwatering acidity and very fine tannins lead to a long, juicy finish. While not as profound as some of the other single vineyard Zins, this is a unique and delicious quaff that is very satisfying. Drink now though 2018.

Brilliant yellow/gold. Reticent nose of honey, wax, preserved lemon and just a touch of sweet spice. Rich, deep and full bodied, the flavors are very primary and unevolved with notes of citrus rind and roasted nuts. There is some youthful bitterness. I have about 15 years of experience with this wine and am confident that this will blossom with several years in the cellar. Took one for the team. This is just a baby. Drink 2018 through 2025.
