2001 Château La Tour Blanche SauternesSémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
8/12/2011 - Redguy wrote: 92 pointsFrom 375. Lots of apricot and floral notes with a long honey laced finish - shows a bit of caramel. Nice fine texture with some waxiness to it. Good intensity and concentration and quite expansive, though lacks some of the focus and vibrancy of previous bottles. Acidity not as pronounced. I suspect this is in a bit of an evolutionary ebb at the moment. This still shows lots of promise for the future, but for now it's a hold. |

8/10/2011 - Redguy wrote: 89 pointsRed licorice, plums, and toasted oak on nose with a touch of a medicinal aroma - iodine?- that was not unpleasant. Bright and rich on the attack with plums, cherries, white pepper, and some caramel on the finish. Very good acidity, medium body, nice dusty tannins. A little sweet (as I usually find in grenache) and the oak is not fully integrated at this point. I'd hold these for another year or two. |

8/8/2011 - Redguy wrote: 88 pointsGreat florals with bright green apples and a fairly hefty amount of sulfar. Very light weight and fine textured with very good flavor intensity. Lovely wine and paired exceptionally well with blackened snapper with creole sauce. Will benefit from more cellar time, if I can keep my hands off them. |

8/6/2011 - Redguy wrote: 94 pointsDecanted for 1 hr and served with goumet bbq burgers. This is outstanding wine. Very dense and concentrated black fruits are complicated by smoked meats, white pepper, and Alban tar. Great depth and intensity with a lip smackingly good finish. This has excellent balance and freshness. Lots going on here - love it! |

8/4/2011 - Redguy wrote: 92 pointsMy God, I'm just tearing thru this stuff! I've definitely got a problem here. That watermelon cotton candy flavor with a touch of pink grapefruit and Tropicana coupled with it's fleshy nature and racy acids make me powerless to its charms. Maybe if they’d stop selling fresh wild Alaskan sockeye salmon for $8/lb I could drink some Bordeaux and get on with my life! |

2004 Château de ReignacBordeaux Supérieur Red Bordeaux Blend more |
8/5/2011 - Redguy wrote: 83 pointsGlass at restaurant with appetizers. Typical Bordeaux funk on nose coupled with some red fruits and oak. In the mouth this was mostly plum and oak spice with some earthy complexities emerging with air. A bit sloppy and unfocused although drinkable enough - better with food. Not one for the cellar. |

8/5/2011 - Redguy wrote: 87 pointsOrder at Giancarlo's restaurant and served with osso bucco. From memory this had a fruit forward cherry and white pepper type profile with a touch of funk for intrigue. Good tannin and acidity. A small lapse transitioning from the mid palate to the finish but fairly good intensity. Very good, and definitely a solid wine, but not outstanding and I certainly didn't see anything that should merit a WS 93 score. I would drink this again and it would be a decent buy at <$20. |

2008 Fratelli Perata Cabernet Franc Paso Roblesmore |
8/3/2011 - Redguy wrote: flawedAromas of plums, violets, and spices. On the palate this showed cherries and raspberries as well as some typical cab franc bell pepper type greeness and it's propensity to fall off at the back end. Fairly heavily toasted oak. However, this bottle showed quite a bit of VA also which made it undrinkable. Flawed |

8/2/2011 - Redguy wrote: 89 pointsPnp and served lightly chilled with spicy asian shrimp. Tropical fruits and lemon chiffon on palate with loads of creamy minerality. Medium finish and good acidity - very clean and concise. Conveys a very clear expression of time and place. Enjoyed equally well with and without food. Excellent! |

8/1/2011 - Redguy wrote: 89 pointsDecanted for 1 hr. Tannins dominated a bit initially but receeded after thirty minutes of air time. Great blackberry and black cherry fruit character. Good structure with decent acidity. Paired quite well with the flank steak and polenta. Not showing much complexity - will benefit from another couple of years in cellar. Very good wine now with room for growth. Decant, decant, decant! |

2005 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon ReserveNapa Valley more |
7/29/2011 - Redguy wrote: 89 pointsDecanted 1.5 hrs and drank with a hearty beef stew. This is a dark wine with black plums, black cherries and dark toasted oak. Medium+ mouthfeel, nicely integrated sandy tannins, decent acidity, and an oak spice laden finish of short-medium length. Showed a touch of alcohol on the finish. Not as deep nor as vibrant as I had hoped. While certainly a good wine, this was a pretty one dimensional and a bit of a disappointment. It does have some structure to age, but I'm dubious as to it's ability to improve with time. Two bottles left so we shall see. I've had better for a lot less $ |

7/27/2011 - Redguy wrote: 91 pointsDidn't decant this time. Beautiful juice like last time though showed more oak spice at first. Better integrated after being open about 30 minutes. Great texture. Excellent wine but recommend a short decant. |

2007 Château de MyratSauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
7/27/2011 - Redguy wrote: 92 pointsVery darkly colored for such a young Sauternes - sort of a burnt orange which is appropriate as this has a predominately orange marmalade flavor profile. This is the sixth bottle of this I've had and it seems to be gradually softening over time, revealing a more honeyed flavor and texture. A nice vein of spice runs through this. A little less vibrant than it was last year though still showing good acidity which thankfully prevents it's from truely being "sticky" A bit disjointed yet though. Excellent freshness and while boldly flavored, this is certainly not "heavy" in the mouth. Manly but with a feminine side. Excellent and a great value with a bright future ahead. 92+ |

7/23/2011 - Redguy wrote: 91 pointsDecanted 30 minutes. Dark saturated purple/ruby. Very warm and inviting aromas of ripe black fruits, saddle leather, and baking spices. Dark fruits, damp earth, meat, herbs, and spices arrive seamlessly with very good acidity. Very detailed and layered. Mouth filling with soft, chewey tannins. Worked equally well with and without food. A very well constructed wine and while excellent now, this still has room for growth. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

7/20/2011 - Redguy wrote: 88 pointsTastes of the Valleys Wine Bar pour. No notes taken but I thought this was quite good. Very bright raspberry type fruit with a distinct pinot earthiness and mushroom character to it. Very clean and precise on the opening and mid palate though a little too much toasted oak on the finish detracts. My favorite of the Carlson pinots I had tonight. Very good! |

7/20/2011 - Redguy wrote: 88 pointsDark fruits, black pepper, with some mocha/coffee nuances. Med+ body with good acidity and soft, chewy tannins. Seemed to show a bit too much oak influence and a touch disjointed tonight. While certainly a good wine, this didn't rock me. |

7/18/2011 - Redguy wrote: 89 pointsVery solid and well proportioned cab with some cassis, gentile but forward oak, and a touch of veggies. Seems more tannic than my last encounter. This needs time for the oak to integrate. 89+ today, though I expect this to grow into the 90-91 range in a year or two. |

Candied strawberry flavors, without being too sweet, with some pink grapefruit appearing on the mid palate and that mouth filling creamy minerality throughout. Off dry and refreshing with good length. "A Whole Lotta Rosie" |

7/17/2011 - Redguy wrote: 90 pointsEnjoyed outside with munchies at the Festival Mosaic Mandolin Quartet concert. Dark berries, red licorice, mocha, and spices with lots of non-sweet caramel on the finish. Chalky tannins, med/med+ body, and a touch "old world" in its approach - this is not some bright and polished Paso Rhone. Excellent. This will benefit from a short cellar nap (1-2 years) or decant if drinking now. Very good QPR. My favorite Cote vintage to date. |
