Whoa this thing is still a powerful. Massively expressive nose and matching palette. Heavy and potent. Ripe black and red fruit, spices, touch of chocolate, more than a hint of figs. Lush mouthfeel but grippy finish. 20 years old but seems like it probably has years left ahead of it.

Decanted. Floral nose, jumping out of the decanter, woodsey, barnyard, meating, fleshy, great palate depth. Stunning. Wow. Wife did not like as she is not a Rhône style person.

Reiterating my 94 rating on a new bottle. Black fruits, black olive, pepper, licorice, some alcoholic heat. Should improve for 5-10 years.

Another CA Rhone from the presumably reference-level list at Alinea - clearly stored in pristine condition as the cork came out cleanly and proudly. If the Saxum was like a Beaucastel, this reminded me of a ripe Cote Rotie. Plummy with a meatiness and filigree red and black cherry acidity. Excellent structure at 27 years old. The only thing that really gives away the new world origins of this wonderful Syrah was the warm, sweetness on the finish which the steep and stern banks of the Rhone don't offer. Incredible experience, and absolutely delicious.

Sort of muted upon opening but after an hour it emerged and is ponderous on the palate. Beautiful fruit, beautiful structure. Very deep and complex. Alcohol is apparent but never overshadows the structure and depth of wine. After a sip want the next, a great sign.
Two days later, nose blossomed and very fragrant. Fruit now strong and nice, and there is a meat and funk taste. Jeeze, what does funk taste like? This was like molding hay and horse stall, but that was just a bit and for short second. Also a meaty taste was woven into it. Something for sure. The way I describe the flavors sounds bad, but it was a great characteristic. Liked this a lot more on second day.
I've had Reva a number of times; sometimes I open right at peak, sometimes several years before, and sometimes past peak. My approach in the past was to buy at least two bottles. In one instance I opened one at peak. I thought I could run the next bottle out a good five more years, but when I did was bland and flabby. Other CT reviewers seem to indicate this is a twenty year wine, and it very well might be. But my advice is drink them in the window but don't let them go more than another year, two tops.

Nice pull by Nutty08. This wine was really delicious, hedonistic, but a little more open than other vintages of Reva, including 09 and 10. The sweet vanilla oak and fig notes are there, it’s mouth coating with balanced acidity. We decided that these are good to drink now and perhaps not intended to age eternally.

Great for the style it is. Hides it's 15.5% ETOH well. Huge floral notes with violets, crushed rocks and a little pepper. Has some notable chocolate and vanilla notes which I don't love but didn't fine intrusive. Finish is powerful and lengthy. Quite intense adding some coarse tannins. I don't get any tertiary notes at all--still rather primary but I suspect the palate is smoothing out and integrating.

Two hour decant. We drink lots of Alban and opened this Reva early in its window to pair with Texas barbecued brisket. Typical Alban terroir-heavy, lean, intellectually complex style that I prefer to the extracted jellies some prefer. This is a solid Reva vintage that can be enjoyed any time for the next few decades.

Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with lots of black fruits, cedar and chocolate notes.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing blackberries, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco, vanilla, dried fruits, light earth, barnyard, light vegetables, herbs, chocolates, espresso, cola and black pepper.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Syrah from Edna Valley in California. Showing nice complexity and elegance, with a soft mouthfeel.

This Syrah from the great 2013 vintage is drinking beautifully now. A great sipping wine to have all by itself.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$130.

20 years in, this is still drinking well. Color still youthful, nose of dark fruit with a little Alban funk (different than Cayuse funk, but seems to be present in Alban wines). Mouthfeel still full and velvety, and a crazy long finish.

Decanted a portion with stir on day 1 and it seemed overly powerful/concentrated even after 2 hrs but paired nicely with BBQ. Vacuvin’d the rest and on day 2 a portion balanced out an hour after decanting with stir. On day 3, it smoothened out 3 hrs after decanting without stir. Deep purple color. Old leather, olives, a little earth and hint of dark berries on the nose. Black cherry, a little pepper, and black olive on the palate with about 35 sec finish. Reminded me of a Cote-Rotie but much more densely concentrated (again, better on day 3), and I suspect with aging will end up similar and a few points higher. What a nice showing from my first Alban!

Fruitier and younger tasting than expected. Intense minerality/charcoal. A bit of heat from the alcohol. Much nicer at this stage than the last one we tasted. Would score a bit higher if not for the "heat".

Selected for our New Year’s Eve wine from our cellar. Does more need to be said? Lush, rich, elegant and singing in six part harmony after just an hour in decanter. Alban produces some of the very best Rhône varietals in the US. Impeccable balance, perfect tannins and great finish. Just now into its drinking window, this should go for another 15 years.

Fantastic. After 10+ years of waiting finally got on the list. I waited two weeks after receiving and had to try this one to see if it was as good as what made me sign up more than a decade ago. I'm sure this will evolve more but it's just really delicious now. It's red fruited and more fruit driven than savory. Will buy more on my next allocation.

Christmas '23 - last of 3 bottles - decanted 3-hours, full-throttle and very concentrated for having this much age. Deep, rich opaque color. Nose of singed cedar & fragrant bacon fat. Brambly mulberry, black berry and hint of red raspberry. Asian 5-spice on finish that seemingly went on for minutes. Northern Rhone similarities.
Definitely in good drink window but still has 5-7 years of hang time. Bottle of year.....thus far! Over the top!

A very different profile of what I know of Reva. I have had several vintages so I have a bit of experience. This is not dense but is powerful. Red fruit profile for me. But the flavor was such I wondered is this TCA tainted? Very vibrant and active on palate. Had open three days now. It just hit me what this tastes like: a brunello.
Best showing on 16th. Very balanced, more like Reva I know, and heavy sediment, but when at last third of bottle to be expected. Smooth, alcohol not apparent (until you stand up) and just super nice. I had faith this would deliver and it eventually did. Why did it take so long to show?
