This got worse the longer it was open. Not sure if winemaking or closure was the problem, or both. Prunes, stewed tomatoes on the nose. Port-like and prunes on the palate that just grew stronger.

Very nice Cali cab. Decanted for 90 minutes. Rich nose. Explosion of ripe dark fruit that goes on and on. Very bold/new world and not showing bottle age. Outstanding wine if you're in that mood. Wish I had more than 1 left.

3hr. decant then open for many hours beyond. Very nice, big coffee notes, tobacco, spice, blackberry. Well integrated flavors, nothing overpowers and different things pop out at different times. As it should be.

Still not sure why RP has touted this producer so highly over the years. This bottle was as much of a mess as the previous one. Beautiful to look at in the glass, and, although the ruby color and legs are fresh for this 15-year-old wine, things go downhill quickly. The nose is of a strawberry taffy confection and woody notes with considerable heat. The palate falls apart quickly with shrill acidity, berry Kool Aid flavors and a hot, thudding finish. Cellar stored since release.

Doesn't appear to have faded. Still lots of vibrant fresh berry fruit flavour. Possibly even better on day 2. We thought it showed very typical Merlot characteristics.

Solid well built cab that was showing better than my last bottle. Very smooth from mouth to finish with enjoyable bits of white pepper. Drink these up as I don't think they will get any better.

So when I went back to my notes I couldn't find any specific descriptors for this wine. However, of the 3 couples eating together they agreed this was the wine of the evening out of a line up that also included the 2004 Ode To Picasso and the 2004 Red Wine both also by Behrens Family/Erna Schein. The wine was still drinking great and has a few more years in my opinion.

Didn't want to let this one go, but feel that it was opened at the right time. This wine is a combo of 50 Cab, 20 Merlot, 20 Verdot, and 10 Syrah. Wine was popped and poured and was ready to go! Initially there was a little bit of a metallic front on this wine, but 15 minutes was all it needed to burn off. After, a nice floral bouquet mixed with raspberry jam kind of took over once the metallic nature burned off. On the front, one immediately saw the herbal and earthy/gritty side of the merlot and the floral side of the verdot that initially hit you in the face. The fruit structure was good. Medium bodied. The middle was delicate, starting off with a raspberry and rose petal, but kind of concentrated to that typical dense and jammy syrah (figs with a hint of plum in this case), and finished with some darker fruit, mocha, and young stiff tannin. I expected this one to be quite a bit more tannic than it was. This wine had QUITE a bit going on, but due to the integration that has already occurred in the 4 months I've had the bottle, I'm not sure of this wine's future. Behren's says the end date is 2024, but I don't really think this one is going to get any better with more than a year of additional bottle age. I think this one is going to be done by 2018. So, for the 144 bottles in cellars, I'd start drinking on this expecting it to already give you quite a bit of complexity with a very minimal bottle decant.

This was our last bottle of six purchased in 2008. This was the best of the bunch as the tannins and acidity integrated well with layers of fresh figs, blackberries and cassis flavors. Hints of toast and chocolate also lingered during the finish. Wonderful balance, nose and mouthfeel.

Raisiny. Thin. I expected much better. This winery had much hype from Parker, and so far, when I drink young they are fruit bombs and then I miss the evolution and the last few times we have opened we have been very disappointed. CT notes are all over the place. Why?

Unfortunately this wine was corked. Hey it happens, I didn't get the typical musty basement or wet concrete nose typical of TCA but the wine was definitely off. I have about 12 more bottles in the cellar so will be trying another one this weekend and report back.

The purple plastic strikes again, the wine smelled and tasted like plastic. The B&H wines with real corks are great, the ones with the purple fake cork are hideous.

This is very un-like a Behrens wine. Dark plum, black currants, white pepper on the nose; medium light weight and juicy. Backbone is thin but the ripe dark fruit carries on for a 20+ second finish. Not your typical B&H fruit bomb, this has a sense of elegance to it. More structure to the wine would have increased the score 2 points or more. Thanks Les!
