19th Wedding Anniversary Dinner. Poured from magnum. Rich, dusty, fruity, fragrant bouquet, big, rich, fruity taste, did not match the lamb as well as the other wines, long finish with enough acid and tannins to suggest cellaring for 2 more years, My favorite red wine of the night.

Popped and poured and proceeded to drink over the next few hours. Very nice right out of the bottle without the initial funk I have experienced with Brainaire Ducru from time to time. Lots of sediment and beautiful garnet color. Mellow flavor with lots of black cherry, and a nice, soft finish. Nice balance. Drinking well now.

Beautiful and elegant bouquet with cassis, flowers, some smoke and beautiful oak. Same on the palate. Beautiful acidity, tannin and bitterness. In its early maturity stage now. Will improve with 3 – 5 years of ageing. 89+ for tonight.

Positively overwhelmed with this one. It was holding up very well. Classic bordeaux in the nose and very long aftertaste. A real pleasure.

Beautiful bouquet with chocolate, tobacco, leather, but also some old age lavas. On the palate the age is showing as well. In the mouth still juicy dark fruits, sweet spices, good acidity and concentration. The wine is still beautiful and completely ready and the tannin still has some bite, but to be honest; this bottle was just a little past its prime. Have one or two more, so time to drink them before they are too old.

Luxurious bouquet with dark fruits, smoke and luxurious oak. On the palate dark fruits, vanilla, some toast and good acidity and tannin. Still youthful and a beautiful wine. Probably fully mature around 2015 or 2016.

Tasted double blind I scored it exactly the same as the two previous times. Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, sweet spices, some smoke, cedar and cigar box. On the palate a sweet start followed by dark as well as red forest fruits, some pepper and beautifully soft tannin and a great length. Ready now and for several years to come.

Beautiful and elegant bouquet with red fruits like raspberries, dark forest fruits, some chocolate and coffee as well as a pleasant dose of oak. On the palate the same with soft acidity and mild, round tannin. Not extremely concentrated, but there are some pleasant luxurious elements. Drink between now and the next two years.

Nice aromatics of cappuccino, blueberry, currant, licorice, and truffles. Full of fruit, this medium-bodied delight is evolving toward richness.

Red brown/brick color. The bouquet show pleasant barnyard, earth, mushroom and tobacco. On the palate mushroom, chocolate and sweet spices. Everything is soft and resolved. There is ok acidity and a touch of sweetness. Very mature, but still very pleasurable. What to say about a wine in this condition and with this age? If you own a perfectly stored bottle with a (fairly) high fill, this can probably last another decade.

See also previous notes. Beautiful bouquet with sweet spices and luxurious oak. On the palate red fruits, some bell pepper and a firm amount of acidity. The tannin is a bit drying. Ready now and probably wise not to wait too long anymore.

When I opened this wine, it was empty! I was shocked and had to look at the bottle again. Then I thought it might be a fake! That didn't make sense either.

It became quite elegant over the next 45 minutes without gaining any weight. The 95 WA rating is a bit ambitious, but because of the elegance of the last glass, given the terroir and producer pedigree, I can see this going places over the next 10 years, but not anytime soon...

The notes here contradict each other, so I'll add mine as well ;-). I do not think this is a bad wine and I do not think this wine should be drunk young. There is cassis and other dark forest fruit in the nose. Oak and espresso as well. On the palate dark berry fruits, lead pencil, sweet spices, bell pepper, good oak and a firm dose of stick and drying tannin, but the wine is also juicy. Wines like this need 12 years to open up. So try in 2023 and you will have a nice surprise. Will last at least until 2028. 90 - 91+ for now.

Similar in color to the Bahans Haut-Brion, and also a day 2 glass from a bottle opened for dinner last night.

"Cleaner" nose than the Bahans, and also less interesting unless you can't abide some funkiness with your wine. Mostly blackberry fruit on the nose.

Really smooth on the palate, not a sharp edge to be found in this fully mature wine. Sweet-ripe black fruits; interestingly enough, this was the least interesting of the three reds we had last night, but it has really blossomed overnight.

Like the Bahans, my last bottle.

Dark red. Consumed at busy pre family wedding get together, so no serious tasting notes. Mature Bordeaux. Not likely going anywhere.

Thought I was drinking wine given to me by the Renous and was surprised at how much I was enjoying the supposedly lesser wine -It was delicious, delicate, complex and very Bordeaux - wonderful with food - not a WOW wine but rather one to be savored - try again in the next 6-9 months

Overall, we may have opened this bottle a little too soon. It's very pure right now, but lacking a bit of complexity. That said, it's a very nice wine that I hope to enjoy for quite a while.

Though I preferred the Lynch Bages in a horizontal, this clearly had good, complex material and may prove to be longer lived. Very good to excellent St. Julien.

7/5/2014 - ProfByron Likes this wine: 91 points

Very mature (even for bottle bought and consumed in Bordeaux from reputable merchant) with lovely aged character. Not by any means a blockbuster. Its attractiveness is largely because it has aged, and developed lovely character, rather than being a wine of intense fruit originally.

I know 1990 wasn't quite as ripe as 1989 but I thought it was not far off, but, as I said, this isn't a blockbuster. I suspect that many 2000 Bordeaux may similarly surprise some people. If you expect a 'vintage of the decade' (or Century as usually hyped) to be Californian in ripeness then don't look to the left bank of Bordeaux in 1990 or 2000. Thankfully. The world needs more wines like this. Wines that have delicacy as well as flavour.

13%. Cork.
