12/26/2023 - Wine Of The Moment Likes this wine: 89 pointsThe Buffalo Roam red wine blend version has always been a rock solid go-to wine. This white wine version is on par with a great tasting experience and gratification through and through. Sourced from the Texas High Plain AVA, this fruit forward and luscious white wine blend will ease your mind into the sights and vibes of the Rhone Valley. Take in those notes of apricot with a touch of honey and relish the acid sensation along your palate. There is Texas minerality in there along with notes of peach for added character. A citrus note lingers after that initial sip, so feel free to sip and savor to see what else might unfold. A truly lovely white blend. Cheers! |

10/16/2023 - Wine Of The Moment Likes this wine: 88 pointsGet ready for a fine Texas 2017 vintage of Tempranillo! This 14.4 abv wine pours a garnet color with big aromas of raspberry and cherry. Swirl, breathe and take a sip and let your palate relish notes of blackberry with a touch of tobacco. Let’s clock the acidity on this wild beast at about medium along with a moderate dry finish. After that first taste, you might also pick up some chalk and a bit of cedar. It’s a really great Tempranillo that exemplifies one of the state’s well-known wines. Enjoy! |

8/31/2022 - Wine Of The Moment Likes this wine: 87 pointsThis red wine blend has always been a rock-solid go-to Texas wine for your favorite BBQ feast. 2017 certainly added to the intensely rich flavors of this vintage and does not disappoint your wine senses. At 5 years old, it pours with a lighter red hue than previous releases and still packs some good fruit forward notes. Aromas of plum and strawberry are most pronounced for this 50/50 Mourvèdre-Syrah blend. It’s smooth on the palate with a silky finish for this dry beast. There is a bit of spice in there, as well. Tannins are about medium for optimal enjoyment. Your outdoor meaty dish awaits and will be delighted with this as a pairing…enjoy! |

11/6/2021 - ken@ampy.com wrote: 91 pointsThis is for the 2010 Vintage. This is my 1st experience with wine from Texas, not a place one readily associates with Viticultural endeavors. This was a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting much and found this bottle to be very pleasant at 11 years of age. It was nuanced, balanced, smooth with a moderately long finish. I expect it will live another 5 or more years with proper storage. Quite nice, no idea how I acquired this bottle, perhaps from one of my Texas friends who have yachts in my Marina. I will not be so inclined to discount Texas wines out of hand in the future. |

2018 Brennan Vineyards Graciano Reserve Lahey VineyardTexas High Plains more |
8/18/2020 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $46. 100% Graciano. OK, Graciano is fairly difficult to come by in Spain, let alone Texas. Known primarily in Rioja (where it takes a decided backseat to Tempranillo and even Garnacha, Graciano is at best, usually, a blending variety. To taste a 100% varietal Graciano? Whoa. Fruity. Really fruity. Really, really fruity. Did I mention the fruit? Dark in the glass with all the dark fruit you can imagine: blackberry, plum, cassis. Also, tons of black pepper, a bit of anise, and some allspice. The palate is, well, fruity, but there is also acidity and a considerably lengthy finish. I really wanted to dislike this wine (why? ask my therapist), but it is fantastic (if you are a fan of the fruit, that is). thedrunkencyclist.com |

2017 Brennan Vineyards Cabernet SauvignonTexas more |
8/18/2020 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 89 pointsRetail $30. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Alicante Bouschet(?). Details on the blend and appellation are a bit scant, but I am fairly confident that this wine is both majority Texas High Plains and Cabernet Sauvignon. Really dark in the glass in both color and aromas (blackberry, mocha, cassis, plum), but much less brooding on the palate. Sure, there is fruit, but there is also plenty of tart acidity, close to lip-smacking, in fact (and that is a *good* thing). There is a bit of depth (but the is the real story) and a solid finish, but the tannins are subtle--to be consumed in the near-term. thedrunkencyclist.com |

8/17/2020 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 91 pointsRetail $24. Under screwcap. Light in the glass, just a hint of color with wonderful tree fruit on the nose, pear, peach, even a bit of bright citrus acidity. The palate is, well, wonderful. Great fruity, searing acidity, and a floral, lengthy finish. I'll be honest, I am not a fan of Viognier--it is usually too floral, a bit astringent, a bit, well, soapy. Not here. Not at all. While it might fall short of the transformative wines from Condrieu, this is an excellent representation of the genre. thedrunkencyclist.com |

2019 Brennan Vineyards Mourvèdre RoséTexas more |
8/17/2020 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 90 pointsRetail $22. 85% Mourvèdre, 15% Muscat of Alexandria. I did a bit of searching, but I could not determine whether this is a True Rosé or not. I will have to dig deeper. Just a hint of color in the glass, but plenty of aromas--mostly from the fragrant Muscat: lychee, white flower, wild strawberry. The palate is loaded with fruit: slightly under-ripe strawberry, orange rind, peach. There is also plenty of acidity that balances out all of that fruit. An Excellent rosé. thedrunkencyclist.com |

4/10/2019 - TannicBeast Likes this wine: 88 pointsTasted blind. Med + ruby. Black cherry, black plum, leather, sweet oak spices. Youthful. Dry but very fruit forward, with med acidity, med (+) tannins and high alcohol (14.5%). Full-bodied, with good flavor intensity and length. Good by itself and a great pairing for grilled and smoked Texas meats. Drink through 2022. Turns out it is a blend of 58% Nero d'Avola, 25% Carmenere, 8.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.5% Alicante Bouschet. |

1/7/2020 - Wine Of The Moment Likes this wine: 90 pointsCirca 2014 and 4.0 Cellars had just been opened a couple of years. A special event was being held on a cold drizzly September day featuring some great wines on display for tasting. However, in the “back” room (before the great expansion) there was a lone bottle on a long table. The front label had a big W printed on it along with two wine guards on either side of it (ok, they were just the staff pouring samples, but guards makes it sound more dramatic). You just barely got an ounce of pouring for tasting (yes, they really were rationing samples). What you experienced was nothing short of greatness. Fast forward six years and that bottle is still holding up well. This time, you pour a whole glass and indulge as your reward for patience. The profile is a full bodied and well-balanced red wine blend. You will notice notes of plums, blackberry, and some cherries. A touch of licorice helps round things out. It is smooth with light tannins and a bit of smokiness to liven things up on the finish. We forgot to mention what is in it, you say? If memory serves us right, some Cabernet both the Sauvignon and Franc varietals and a touch of something else. Bottom line, it’s damn good. So, if you have been patient enough to hold on to any bottles, open one and enjoy! |

Flavors are similar to a cali chardonnay, actually. Also reminds me of a Marsanne-Roussane Rhone. much thicker than a Rhone Viognier. |
