Compact style Pinot. Great depth and intensity with a solid fruit core and plenty of muscles... Would benifit of at least 3-5 years of aging to really mellow out the wine but it is also great now but with with a more dense impression!

Med acid, cedar, black tea, sage, underbrush, smoke. Rich sour cherry fruit but balanced by grippy tannins. This has gotten a lot better with age. Wasn't 100% convinced on release, but it's coming in to a really nice stage now. Wish I wasn't drinking the last bottle I have!

Agree w last review. Pretty nose of rose petals, nice attack of more elegant but ripe fruit, then the palate drops off a cliff and finished w a lingering bitterness. Try after a few yrs. 89?

Like Chad about 5 years ago wrote. Still an amauing wine which needs a bit of time to wake up. Very complex. Olenty of brown flavours like coffee, tobacco, bread crust, aged cherries etc. There was even some freshness still lingering behind a orner in my glass ;-). A very harmonious California Pinot without a strong punch of alcohol or extract. Maybe not "Burgundian" for me, therefore it is too bold and massive, but absolutely enjoyable. Would not hold it throughout eternity. Better finish up in the coming months ....

An odd blend of sweet red fruit and bitter tannin. The tannin tells me this wine needs some time to mellow out. I tasted it blind and never would have guessed it would have come from a respected wine maker. Given the time constraints of the tasting I probably didn't give it enough time to get more air and show its best side. Even with decanting I don't think I'd recommend drinking this yet. It seems to be in an awkward phase.

Medium rust red color. Moderate, fine sediment at bottom of bottle (stood up several weeks before consumption). Sweet leaf and berry aromas attest to some bottle age. Some earthy elements join in with a slight cooked fruit character with time in the glass. On the palate, this has fully resolved and has lots of interesting leaf/mushroom/earth tertiary character with plenty of cherry and strawberry fruit still present. Some vanilla/floral sweetness emerges on a medium finish. Delivers the aged wine experience. Enjoyed by all. Drink or hold.

Slightly brick edge. Well developed raw meat mixed with sweet cherry. Somewhat surprised how fresh this still was.

really good right out of the bottle, great red fruit, some oak but nice not overpowering, and some really nice spice edge -- cinnamon which i love, interestingly it continued to drink nicely over four hours but the cinnamon receded significantly after the first 30-45 mins, that was disappointing but overall another great Calera Mills from the 90's… bingo (tiff thought this was very prunes in nature, me less so)

wow, this was fantastic… so pleasurable to drink a 20 year old Cali pinot that is beautiful (i am not a cali pinot fan), this had ripe red fruit profile but with loads of acid (key for balance), and on top of that some very nice spice, funny Marilee said that she really liked it til she was served her pepper blackened tuna and then the spices were too much… loved this wine and will hunt for more

I'm not a PN fan and approached this from the perspective of wanting to try PNs considered to be very fine. The 96 point rating from Wine Advocate coupled with a $50-something price compelled me. I almost fell asleep drinking this and was tempted just to pour it out. It got worse with air. The nose had some nice notes (although I'm not a huge fan of menthol and musty wood) but the palate collapsed quickly and the finish was short and a little sour. Look, this is thin, insipid wine with a few nice aspects on the nose fighting against some funky notes. You can tell me all you want about the nuances and subtlety, but if I have to work this hard to enjoy a wine that, after all, is thin (not voluptuous), non-linear (disjointed as opposed to seamless), and low in aromatics, I just don't see the excitement. I'm being quite generous at 87 points. Why should we make excuses for thin, dull wine simply because it's PN?

Popped and poured. Sweet, with depth and earthy tones. Nice structure. Drinking well now, a supple, soft, somewhat complex wine, with sweet fruit and balanced acidity.

A nice, ripe Pinot. Big ripe fruit, bing cherry, raspberry, cola, baking spices, damp earth, and hints of anise. The palate is very ripe, lacking a touch of acidity to keep it tight knit. It is overall good, but gets a touch flat and hot for my taste.

This is a fabulous bottle of pinot noir. Lighter in body and style but yet has a rich and lush mouthfeel. Lots of ripe fruit with a long luxurious finish. May improve with time but very hard to resist drinking it now. A remarkable value compared to other pinots of similar quality.

Big green pepper corn stems comin' from the Zalto. With wood. And Pinot fruit. unresolved wine here. Its almost crazy how all over the place it is. Probably the Zaltos fault. Or maybe because it was just opened. We will have to see.

Two bottles: one stellar, with fresh red berry and cherry fruits, the other a little darker-toned with a hint of raisin: I much preferred the former, but both were excellent. One was straight for the cellar, one was in the kitchen in for a couple of months: I regret not tracking each individual to see what effect that had, if any. Really nice Pinot Noir..

Dark red. Brightly perfumed nose of red candied fruit, underbrush and anise. Across the palate there is a lovely mineral spine with an interplay of red and blue pinot fruit. I did not drink this blind but if I did, I think I would have struggled to figure out where it was from (neither definitively California nor Bungundian). Excellent stuff. Real clarity and persistence.

A nose of earth more than red fruit. Taste is a good balance of fruit and earthiness, but a little more red fruit would have been welcome. (The Calera was much more reserved in taste, less rich, than a Kosta Browne at the same meal.) Medium finish.
