On the nose, it presents a fruity bouquet with notes of raspberry, sour cherry, tobacco, and cocoa. A greenish hue, initially interpreted by all as clear evidence of the presence of international grape varieties, instead turned out to be attributed to the inclusion of 20% Malvasia Nera. On the palate, it boasts a pleasing savoriness and a significant entry, balanced by refined and elegant tannins. |

Sour cherry, strong earth notes though elusive - comes on strong and then hides away from your nose, probably because of the blend of merlot, which gave a very plush and soft mouthfeel. Other darkish colored fruits. Good to drink now. Notes vanished after in decanter for 4 hours, but it was a good thing we only decanted 1/3 and drank most of it. |

Wonderful punch against the full decadent carbonara with black pepper spice in the pasta. This wine complimented the pasta without being overrun. Wonderful. |

Medium bodied with firm acidity, grippy tannins, and moderate alcohol. Red cherry, dried cranberry, and aromatic herbs. This IGT from Chianti region was different than any others I've had and I learned after the fact that it is because it is 20% Malvasia Nera behind the 80% Sangio. The tobacco and slight touch of bitter chocolate must have been from the Malvasia Nera as was a different layer to the traditional Sangio profile. A very interesting wine that after 90 minutes still was not yet fully smoothed over and the tannins were present. I'd come back to this one in a few years and hope some more evolution and softness really makes this show extremely well. |
