Great wine with deep rich flavors. Fruit is still young and fresh with raspberries, currants and strawberries draped over a solid core of earth and flint. Finish just keeps going. Wine has years to go.

Base neck fill, good cork. Decanted off sediment, then served. This is t past prime, fully resolved, soft cedary red fruit, getting short. Still drinkable but on the downslope.

Dinner with Paul and Jeff (The George Town Club - DC): Despite being forty years old, it remains very youthful character with an abundance of generous fruit. A hint of cassis but mostly red fruit, plum and cherry, scorched earth, lead pencil, a hint of green, leather and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, generous red and black fruit, rich and unctuous but also fluid, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long ripe red fruit driven finish with ash at the end. This reminds me the 92 Phillip Togni cab a bit, but more oaky, perhaps sweet American oak. May be a combination of Togni and Montebello. It doesn't have the complexity of a great Bordeaux but shows a lot of fruit. Really enjoyable and no need to hurry.

Powerful and complex nose with layers of leather, gravel, and black pepper notes. Initial onslaught of herbs and licorice give way to plum and black cherry fruit followed by long, dry, smooth tannins. The WS review is right on track here and this wine shows that Diamond Creek is not always as austere as some of our previous examples have shown it to be. Could easily hold longer but delicious now.

One of my favorite wines from a superb tasting of around 20 wines contributed and shared by 13 experienced wine lovers. Dark, deep, dense, and delicious. Superbly structured by acidity and tannin, which also helps make the wine be very ageworthy. Overall, a powerful wine that justifies the superior reputation of Diamond Mountain as a high altitude appellation. Wish I had bought all of this wine available back in 2005.

Eucalyptus, methanol, black tar, plum and black currant on the nose. Medium tannins, minimal length, low on fruit. Did ok considering isn’t a great vintage.

This was fantastic. Perfect condition and cork, classic nose of cassis, mocha, spice, and a freshness akin to watermelon rind or eucalyptus. Perfectly balanced at this point. We prefer wines with some fruit, and this hit the perfect balance between secondary and tertiary characters.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Aromas of boysenberry during decant. After resting, wine is clear; bright garnet from bowl to rim. Notes of blackberry, boysenberry and Epsom salts. In the mouth: smooth wine showcasing the aforementioned dark fruits, cherry, and hot cocoa. Tannins were still there but not an impediment to enjoyment. Medium-long finish, very nice.

Basically no evidence of age at all judging by the color. Probably the most youthful looking 20+ year old wine I've ever seen.

Blackberry and tea nose, bit of green pepper, allspice, burnt ash and a dab of cedar. There's a ton going on here.

Good body, dry, concentrated and lovely acidity. Tannins are plentiful but not overwhelming. Plenty of time left.

Surprising this one- liked it much more than I expected.

Initially smells like a Bordeaux but on closer inspection some clear differences. With this, the fruit (blackcurrant) comes first and then the graphite or cedar 2nd. Some Eucalyptus and methol notes on the nose also mixed with some spice. Matching the colour, this tastes quite fresh on the palate. A couple of hours in the decanter helped this a lot for my preference. After a couple of hours, more tertiary flavours including leather. On the finish, again some spice with cinnamon and star anise. Still tannic but of a fantastic velvety quality with medium+ acid. This was very good but if you asked me whether I preferred this or the younger Diamond Creek's I've had, I'd say the latter. Will need to drink more Diamond Creek's to draw a conclusion on what this means.

Spaghetti night...…I have a case, and of course needed to try just one....as I indulged in the allure of the 2016 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet, I found myself immersed in a tapestry of refined flavors, rich emotions, and a harmonious blend of three distinct perspectives. Allow me to present a wine review from the standpoint of a wealthy member of upper gentile society, a hopeless romantic captivated by Napa Valley's enchanting allure, and a blues guitarist who finds solace in the soulful depths of music.

One taste and I was reminded of the early 90's in Napa, those long summer days, wine maidens from France and me in my 79 CJ running around with the Mondovi boys. Oh the mems, and OH this wine!

From the moment this opulent wine graced my glass, I knew I was about to embark on a journey befitting my refined tastes. The 2016 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet, born from the sun-drenched vineyards of Napa Valley, exuded an air of exclusivity and sophistication, inviting only the most discerning palates to indulge.

For a wealthy member of upper gentile society, this wine effortlessly met the highest standards of refinement. Its deep, garnet hue hinted at the depth of its character and its exquisite lineage. As I swirled the glass, aromas of blackberries and dark cherries embraced me, laced with delicate notes of cigar box and a touch of freshly brewed coffee. This symphony of scents was the embodiment of luxury itself, inviting me to partake in its opulence.

As a hopeless romantic who cherishes the allure of Napa Valley, I found myself enraptured by the 2016 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet. With each sip, it whispered tales of sun-kissed vineyards, starlit nights, and tender embraces.

Its velvety texture caressed my palate, unveiling a medley of flavors that danced together in perfect harmony. Ripe blackberries and luscious red currants took center stage, serenading my senses with a crescendo of romance. It was as if this wine embodied the spirit of those Napa Valley girls I hold so dear—a captivating combination of grace, beauty, and passion.

As a blues guitarist, my soul found solace in the depth and soulfulness of this wine. It resonated with the melancholic melodies that flow through my fingers, mirroring the complexity and raw emotion I strive to express through music. The structured tannins and intricate layers of blackberry, black currant, and mocha seemed to evoke the essence of a heartfelt blues ballad. This wine, like a perfectly executed guitar riff, lingered on the palate, leaving a bittersweet, smoky finish that beckoned me to explore its depths even further.

In conclusion, the 2016 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet is a melodic symphony of passion that transcends boundaries and captivates the senses. It gracefully caters to the refined palate of the wealthy upper gentile society, sweeps the hopeless romantic off their feet with its Napa Valley allure, and strikes a resonant chord with the blues guitarist's yearning for soulful expression. This wine is an invitation to embrace the luxuries of life, savor the romance that surrounds us, and immerse ourselves in the soul-stirring melodies of the blues.

spectacular to start, with bright mixed red fruit, great 'iron' sensation, some tobacco...all potent, but light on its feet. The fruit faded a bit over several hours but still tasty. I had not tasted this before, and would not have been able to guess a napa cab--a revelation.

Delicious… half bottle at a restaurant. Instantly could smell it in the glass from feet away. Everything you want in a cab with some nice age and complexity. Stewed fruit and tobacco but still fairly light. Didn’t even really need to be decanted.

Stood upright for a day and a half. Quick 30 minute decant. Still a solid ruby core, fading into brick at the edges. Initially I get the expected mushroom/hoisin scents, but as this sits in the glass more aromas tease out: a stony/dusty scent. Dried cherries. Grilled herbs. A cedar/cigar interplay. Taking a taste, I'm surprised at how present the fruit is. We're talking more plummy than jammy, stewed rather than ripe, but it's still there. Still some acid left, I can't detect any tannins but I do get mint & tobacco on the lingering finish. Very much alive, if not on an upward trajectory. My first Diamond Creek, this was a real treat to drink.
