I wasn't as impressed with this bottle as the one 9 months ago. Still nice, but not outstanding. Fruit seems a little subdued - a little plum and blackberry. A lot of earthy, tobacco, leather aromas. Seemed to go a little flat in the glass after open for an hour. Maybe this is in a shut down period for a while?

Did not take detailed notes (brought to a restaurant). I have the Roocamonfina's from 2001 - 2010 and have only tried a few vintages of this in the past. The CT ratings on the 2010 brought me to pop one of these years before I normally would. I had to see if what others were talking about, and I was not disappointed at all. While still a little closed on the nose, you can get the subtle hints of tar and leather. The palate is explosive and the leather is primary along with the dark fruit. This wine will last decades and I hope to one day line these up for a long vertical.

Opened bottle at lunch time, put in fridge and had a few sips in the afternoon, then decanted and drank immediately with pasta at home for dinner. Glad I tried the 01 after the two bottles of 02 last year which left me with mixed feelings. This has a much better balance than the 02 vintage. Garnet, clearly bricking outside of the core. Complex and very aromatic with earth, dark soil but also roses and dried flowers, a slight oxidative touch on the nose upon opening which however does not affect the overall impression. Tannins are fine and fully integrated from the beginning. In peak drinking window and does not really require a long decant. The empty wine glass has one of the nicest and most persistent smells I have experienced in a wine

medium scarlet colored, some smoky fruit with tart cranberries. Quite a bit rustic at present and would suggest some time to let it settle down, but a nice foil to some grilled, heavily peppered chops

Boys out fine dining and fine drinking (Restaurant Tani in Gaienmae (Tokyo)): An absolute bonker!
Super concentrated (no sediment), mega young, not at all integrated with raw wood attacking your senses like a a hairy medieval scotsman with a club...

But the grace within is like a well brought up princess. Amazing and astonishing! Spicy, fruity, multi-layered and grande in a way that Aglianico rarely is. This is soooo refined you'd need a microscope to work your way around its intricate details. Apart from young and unintegrated, this is a fabulous wine of sorts.

Just relax, remain patient and watch it grow through the TN's of all the early drinkers.

This wine really deserves its credits. The cousins behind it are worthy of all the praise. Yay! What a feat! This is a must-visit. And a must buy.

Dark ruby. Nose is powerful bring about ripe dark berry fruit, menthol, licorice, tobacco leaf, smoky bacon and ash. On the palate, this is a very dark and ripe Aglianico with high extract, and the telltale vulcanic imprint usually found in this wine is more marked by the heat of the vintage. The wine is uncharacteristically ready to go right out of the bottle, with excellent ripeness and well defined tannins on the backbone revealing this will last for much longer, despite the vintage trait.

On day two this wine really blossoms. While the ripeness and fruit extract is still dominant, it is now complemented by the typical ashy and dusty aromas and flavor that i recall from other vintages. It fleshes out beautifully on the midpalate and delivers dirt, gravel, leafs, menthol, sweet licorice and wild cherry all in great balance although certainly a opulent and decadent version of this wine. Loved it

This blend (80% Aglianico, 20% Piedirosso) is deep dark red in colour. In the nose a complex bouquet with concentrated aromas of plum, liquorice, plum, black cherry and precious wood. On the palate it displays great complexity and concentration with relatively precise flavours of caramel, black cherry and smoke, intermixed with plum, milk chocolate and mint, sustained by silky tannins. It offers a soft warm mouthfeel. Full bodied, well-balanced and a long finish. Good buy! Drink: 2014-2030.

Tasted four hours after the opening, in my opinion, warm, mature, notes of ripe cherry with red berries and blackberries, followed by hints of spice, tobacco and cinnamon. Presence of well mixed wood and fine tannins. Truly an outstanding Aglianico!

Hard to rate this one at this point and given my previous experience with the '09. Elegant wine by all means with dark hue and full of flavor. Not as concentrated as I expected it to be. Perhaps the next bottle will reveal more.

Hmmmm. Good. Different. Not sure what else. Definitely out of the mainstream. Decanted six hours. Lush flavors with an odd sweetness. Incredibly long finish. Seductive, though not sure I want to give in. Would never have thought it Italian which I think is a flaw - seems more New World, which is surprising given the high percentage of Anglianico. Still, really good. At least it engages the mind and the senses.

Mind blowing wine.
Explodes out of the glass with cigar box, cedar, musk, oak, woody, ash, eucalyptus, earth notes.
Never ending finish: sour cherry, earth, toast, pencil shavings, ash mineral.
Outstanding wine

Very interesting wine. Dark red. Good bouquet of dark red fruit with a touch of acid. Good mouthfeel. Very smooth and together - almost too much so for such a young, big wine. While complex with flavors of a variety of red and dark red fruit, the effect seems to meld into a monolithic flavor that does not evolve much over time. Long finish. Lovely tannins. A beautiful wine, for me it falls short of the recent raves. I feel I taste technique more than nuance. As others have said...drinking very nicely to beautifully now but can age for several to many years.

Had a small taste at my reunion; I brought this wine from my cellar. The other wines served were bigger, and this likely influenced my impression. This seemed elegant and balanced, but didn't offer much of great interest on the nose or palate. Still, I might be being unfair, given the circumstances. I'll plan to drink a bottle with a suitable dinner soon, and I'd say under those conditions I'd probably rate this higher.

Decanted for a couple of hours. Still quite tannic; however, after a couple of hours the wine opened up, the tannin softened, and the brett became less pronounced. Very nice - from my perspective, no need to wait.

From time to time I taste a wine that makes me instinctively blurt out an "o my god" and more rarely I taste a wine that makes me blurt it out with every sip. This is transcendent. The nose is utterly unique; an outrageous juxtaposition of tart and sweet, ethereal and earthy, with berries, cherries, mushrooms, crushed roses, damp upturned ashy earth, tar, menthol, licorice and a musky funk merged with fine perfume. WOW! In the mouth something magical happens. The volatile first burst of flavor disappears on your tongue and is followed by an eruption of a secondary flavor profile that lingers for well over a minute. The list of descriptors would be too long to enumerate but let's just call it freakin delicious. I can't imagine what a decade will do to this wine, but I aim to find out. Let's meet back here in 2024.

Wonderful, distinctive wine. I'm a little puzzled on what basis the powers that be decided this was a weak vintage for Terra di Lavoro. I haven't had a ton of these, but I enjoyed this one more than any of the others, which struck me as a bit jammy and alcoholic. Not so here, not even remotely (I don't taste the oak, either). It is saturating and densely fruited, but actually has a slender, almost feminine frame and comes across supple and satiny in texture. The fruit is so rich that it glosses over the tannin through most of the bottle, but there is muscle underneath. The flavors are wild and exotic, combining Graves-like scorched earth with a meaty gaminess (I think this might be showing the piedirosso) and an incredibly savory character like caramelized porcinis. This is about as awesome a wine for charcoal-grilled steaks as I've ever had.
