Really liked this wine. We opened a bottle trying to figure out if we wanted to get a couple more bottles. This wine is going to get better with some additional time but really enjoyed it with our smoked beef brisket. Opened it and gave it a good three hours to breath. Immediately could smell the black fruit emanating from the wine. There was blackberry, black plum, some raspberry, earthiness like potting soil and possibly some mushroom. The rich deep ruby wine also made it's high alcohol known before even tasting it. There was also a herbal or vegetal tone to it that I can't quite put my finger on. There is definitely some complexity to this wine that keeps coming back to you. The wine was excellent with a lots of body and high alcohol. It really went well with the brisket with a medium finish. Have another bottle and will probably get some more with the intention of storing and drinking in the future.

Still very good but on day two it had hints of port-like taste, so would definitely drink now

Additional time has allowed this wine to smooth out rough edges and additional depth and character to come forward. I would drink in 2023.

Last bottle. This is wonderful Zin in all aspects. If you are lucky enough to have any more-the vineyard was infested w phylloxera and pulled out-it is close to pop n pour. Too much air will thin it out. Spectacular wine, sad it is gone. Thanks Joe Shebl.

A zin on the lighter side despite the 15.4% ABV. The color is pale red, Pinot noir-like. Definitely not a deep brooding monster. Rather, it is fresh, fun, and light on its feet. Fresh baking spices, raspberries. Mouth coating yet medium bodied.

I really like it but not for $44/btl.

First of 3 bottles. Rather fruit forward, as Amador Zins tend to be (not always a good thing), but it settled down as the night went on. Might smooth out in another 6-12 months. Really loved their Jack Rabbit Flat single vineyard-some of the best Zin ever-but the vineyard suffered phylloxera and has been pulled up.
This is a decent deal for $20 or so. Definitely more robust than Dry Creek or Paso Robles Zins (I prefer Dry Creek), but enjoyable.

Sadly, this single vineyard became infested with phylloxera, so all pulled out. We have one bottle left, but if any of you do, drink now as the bottle we had tonight-while quite superior, was showing signs of beginning to fade. So, drink now, probably popnour.

A good zin. Not as good as the old vine Fiddletown zin as it lacks the depth of flavor and rich mouthfeel. Still a good wine though.

This vintner truly makes some of the best Zinfandel (especially for the price) and they seem to have outdone themselves with this vintage. Varietally correct, with the fruit and spice, but an amazing elegance, depth and finish rarely seen with Zins. Not quite 5 years old, but already within drinking window if you give it some air. Will blow you away with it seemingly being smooth and then the finish and wham!

The epitome of "fruit forward." A fruity, jammy, slightly sweet zinfandel for folks who like that style. It is well done, with clear flavors of sweet cherries and plums. Well balanced and smooth, but a bit too sweet for my taste.

This wine is fully-developed and in drink now status. This was one of the best Zins we have had- purple, inky with dark fruit, wood notes and a hint of the Zin spice. No flaws whatsoever. Did I mention drink now? Wowser.

I've enjoyed all the Tribute blends. This was the last bottle of this vintage and did not disappoint. Full bodied and smooth. As a retired FF, I especially like that Distant Cellars contributes to the NFFF. Also, love the labels.
The body is medium. The wine has juicy texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

This has got me thinking I like Petite Sirah better than Syrah (other than maybe Rhone) just because it is more predictable - never know what you are getting with a Syrah or Shiraz. Definitely a lot of berry/fruit heft and dark licorice. Robust, good for grilled meat and/or spicier food.
They really have done a good job on this for $20. Drink now, on its way out. The lazier among us can even pop'n'pour without disappointment.

We liked this, but it is not as good as the Jackrabbit Flat vineyard. Very good, but a bit more of a fruit bomb which left it only slightly unbalanced. With a full afternoon of breathing, it mellowed out a bit, but still has just a speck of rough edges, which kept us from rating 90 or above.
Undecided on aging potential; thinking it is drink now, not sure it will smooth out gracefully. Still very good, we are just very picky and critical about our Zins. 3 bottles left, will see how they go. There's always bottle variation.
Future purchases will be Jackrabbit Flat vineyard.

Exceptionally smooth but not timid and definitely varietally correct. This winery makes the best Amador Zins of all I've tasted from the county. Rather old world style which means to me neither a fruit or alcohol bomb-which some Amador wines can definitely be. Drinking well now.

Sorry for my inconsistent notes, but I enjoyed this, consistent with my first note. Tangy and vibrant. Drank after a wonderful white Burgundy, perhaps adding to the juxtaposition.

Drank after wine more interested in balance. This tasted hot and overripe. No pursuit of balance here. I can drink overripe, high alcohol wines on occasion, but this is not my preference.

This has even evolved nicely since my 9-17-2018 notes.
Not a fruit bomb, but the fruit and Zin spice are present and elegant.
Not an alcohol bomb, despite the 14.5% everything seems rather balanced and integrated.
Just a classic Zin, one of the best in Amador County or Cali for that matter.
With a couple hours of breathing, you need not decant, it is drinking perfectly now and I would give this a DRINK NOW status, drink in 2020, it is at its peak.
p.s. If you are in the area, look up the Pokerville Market (grocery store) which often carries Amador wines like this for less than the winery.
I have used that with phone photos to get discounts at other Amador wineries...most will match Pokerville's prices.
UPDATE 6-13-2020: It is peaking, drink now, same notes but quite mature and excellent.
