It tastes like gooseberry, lime, orange, fig, raisin, apple, apricot, peach, pear, cantaloupe, mango, honeydew, melon, oak, vanilla, apple blossom, honeysuckle, orange blossom, peach blossom, almond, honey, botrytised, biscuity and leesy. The body is full. The wine has juicy texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. |

It was vinified in stainless steel vats then spent many months in merrain oak barrels from Allier (including 30% new). 13.5% abv written on the label. Its features a fresh bouquet of roasted pineapple, candied lemon, quince sauce and a subtle beeswax. Generous and truly syrupy, the palate offers flavors of exotic fruits (mango and passion fruit), a discreet honeyed background, a touch of mint leaf and a small pinch of cinnamon. Unfortunately, the amount of residual sugar is huge. The wine still has a long work ahead of it to digest this substantial volume. Let's just say that the sweet wave sweeps away everything in its path and the low acidity makes the tasting a little boring. It lacks life, it lacks panache! The wine finishes briefly on dried apricot and coarse sugar. Definitely way too early to uncork this stuff. I have read several times that Filhot's wines age superbly: this 2010 will have its chance again in 20 or 30 years. Stay away from this vintage for a very, very long time! |

Allowed to warm for 30 minutes after opening, but kept in the bottle before serving. Wine was clear; golden color. No tartrate crystals. Flowers, honey, and tangerine on the nose. In the mouth, a little like buttered dried fruits: apricots, pineapple, nuts with the botrytis playing second fiddle. Everyone loved it and a marvelous accompaniment to a fruit-covered flan. |

The nose is low intensity but moderately complex showing apricot, tangerine, saffron, a hint of saline, light stony mineral, orange oil, and a touch of honey. The palate has retained tremendous freshness, and still much of its sweetness. It enters on tangerine turning to medium plus acid and moderate sweetness. The finish closes on, ripe peach, apricot, lightly metallic notes, a faint oyster note, and honey which all linger nicely. The faint metallic touch here holds this back a tad, but otherwise this is totally intact, enjoyable and fresh. Above expectations. |
