Very good entry level Barolo. I paid $33 at costco. Little oaky on the nose with some red fruits. The palate is quite dry but backed by leathery red cherries with some good fruit. It impressed some non wine geeks I shared it with, they didn't know why they liked it but they did.

Brick coloured; bitter and few tannins. Inexpensive at CostCo but poor representation of a barolo.

Very tasty, nice acidity, pleasant though a bit simple. Pretty good value. Drinking great now; not sure if one needs to wait longer.

WSET III, part 1; 10/15/2011-10/16/2011 (Portland, ME): Clear, medium-minus garnet color with thick legs. Clean nose; roses, licorice, spice. Medium-plus body, acid, alcohol, and flavor intensity; medium(+) soft, fine tannins. On the palate, smoky, roses, dried fruit. Good, but overpriced.

This wine is still too young. It really did not express itself until after being decanted twice over the course of two hours and then finished a week later. Clear ruby - garnet, medium intensity, a little orange on the rim. The nose is clean, medium (+) to pronounced in intensity, with aromas of baked red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, vanilla, spices and dried roses. The palate is dry, and appears to be younger and fresher than the nose. The acidity and tannins are medium (+) to pronounced and the alcohol is medium to medium (+) at 14%. Overall, this is a medium (+) bodied wine, with medium (+) flavor intensity and a long finish. This wine is very balanced and elegant. It rewards extended cellaring and aeration. It will really be much better in five to ten years.

Surprisingly approachable now. Very fruit forward (dark cherry and raspberry notes) and tannins are more silky than expected. Paired nicely with pappardelle con salsiccia e funghi. Good value at $30 and satisfying, but would love to see a tad more complexity here.

Dark garnet, full bodied
Lots of chocolate covered cherries off the nose

Dry, medium finish, metallic, steely undertones on the finish
Some, cherries, black fruit, leather, bitter wood. Tannins have settled.

This is a food pairing wine for sure.

A slight disappointment, as it seemed a bit thin. Still rather elegant, definite Italian notes in the nose. Finish is still grippy.

A liter bottle. Medium-deep bright garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of youthful & still-developing, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & plums with lovely floral overtones of violets & roses, spices, dried herbs, earthy, dusty, loam, licorice, leather, tar & minerals. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced, silky smooth textured, youthful & still developing, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, mulberries & pomegranate with herbs, earthiness, spices & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well with decanting & airing and will benefit and develop further with additional aging.

No in-depth notes, tasted double blind. Sweet fruit, mostly strawberries. Clumsy fruit, a bit cooked. Fine and firm tannins, medium long aftertaste.

A superb example of why Barolo is famous for its aging ability. First, the color is impressively dark with no brick edge, much closer to the more modern Barolos made in the last 7 years. Second, the acidity is bright, the tannins remain firm, and the fruit is tasty. This bottle would make a defiantly great ringer in a horizontal tasting of 2008 Barolos. Even the bottle is impressive, with a lipped rim, dark color, deep punt, and handsome gold lettering on black. Easily could go on improving for another decade. Wish I had a case instead of 2 more bottles.

In the bouquet coffee, tea, tobacco, but also unpleasant organic flavors. On the palate aceto balsamico, chocolate and also a touch of sweetness. Interesting, but too old. No score.

good interplay of black cherry, plim and tar notes, this wine was a little tight when opened, but a 2 hour decant worked well.

Italian-theme Christmas Dinner (Novi, MI): Opened and consumed over 4 hours. This opened up tight, but gradually developed and was singing by the end of the night. If you want to drink this now, give it a LONG decant.
Aromas of violet, rose, leather, and tar. This also divided the group, based on stylistic preference of those who like "dry" wine or not.

To me, this is a dry, light-bodied wine with firm tannins and moderate acidity. The nose and palate were predominantly cranberry and sour cherry. On the finish were some nice flavors that I can't describe. Light and simple, with very solid structure.

Relative to other nebbiolos from Piedmonte or relative to other wines in this price range, I would score it lower. However, relative to all other reds I have tasted, it is a very good wine.

This had more of the floral notes that I like about Nebbiolo than most Barolos, and less of the savory (olive & raw meat). I wasn't prepared to like it as much as I did. Drinking fine now; Might go with 1-2y more in the cellar.

Made in a more classic style; after thirteen years it definitely is starting to show signs of bricking and the slight orange hue of a maturing Barolo. Big, earthy, and fuller bodied with restrained floral rose notes, expresso, dark dried cherry, asphalt, brambles, and some stoney minerality. Slightly austere, dry, and very structured ending in a long finish. Improved from the bottle enjoyed 4-1/2 years ago.
