Tasty and a bit unusual for its chocolate and mocha flavors. Very dark and full bodied. The mix of the chocolate with the brighter intense violet flavors of the 60% petit verdot is a great pairing. The rest is 40% merlot.

Pretty tasty cab sauv, but couldn’t rate it any higher given the high price point doesn’t have as much depth and complexity as caymus At nearly the same price point.

This has taken a on a wonderful mineral and riverstone quality to the balanced red fruits and has a very balanced and long finish. Red berry and pencil lead. Seems to be peaking now and 2-3 more years.

Opened an hour before dinner. No decant. Initially fruit and tannins. At dinner, with a rare T-bone steak it was excellent. Smoothed out considerably with swirling. Even my critical wife enjoyed a glass. A very nice example of Santa Barbara Cabernet. Still has enough stuffing to be fine for a few more years.

Opened with Christmas Day Prime Rib dinner. Lush, ripe, slightly jammy Cabernet. A bit sweet compared to the 2016 JB Neufeld CS that was also open on the table. Most of the crowd preferred the JB (including me), but a couple of others liked this Foxen better.

Tasted at Foxen (main winery, along with Pinots) and again at home with pumpkin gnocchi, curry, and egg scramble.

Whiffs of blueberry and blackberry fruit along with noticeable oak after opening. These became well integrated on the second and third days with Cab Franc bell pepper, restrained jammy fruits, and moderate tannins.

There is a little alcoholic heat and prefer to serve on the cooler side.

Once again, Foxen demonstrates the power and longevity of its bespoke vineyard. Classic Syrah flavors, still fresh and rich and very tasty after 10 years on vintage with at least another 5 or so years to go, but absolutely terrific now.

I'm a big fan of Petit Verdot and it's "ultimate darkness" when added to a blend. Unique blend here of 50/50 with Merlot. Pretty bold wine, would purchase again. This vintage is still probably best with a decant, and gonna impress for another 5 years at least.

Mouth-drying tannins overshadowed everything else over two nights. Tried with cheese & nuts to try to mellow tannin with fat. Very disappointed.
