2006 Château Hosanna

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

Beautiful bouquet with red and dark forest fruits and beautiful oak. On the palate dark berries, chocolate a touch of bell pepper, firm but good acidity, good tannin and some pleasant bitterness in the finish. A luxurious wine still in its young maturity stage. Might improve a bit over the next 2+? years and will definitely drink lovely until at least 2020. 93+

The wine needs about an hour of air to soften and come together. On the refined, elegant, earthy, fresh side of the style range, it reminds me of Vieux Chateau Certan.

Possibly one of the greatest Hosanna, but needs time. I would not drink this for another 10 years. Store it deep in your cellar.

Black fruit, pepper and chalky on the nose. Slightly jammy up opening. Delicate on the palate with smooth tannins. Medium finish. Comfortably pairing with any meat dishes.

could be shut down (for sure) or could be just me, i have always preferred classic cali cabs from the 70's thru '95'ish and demured when it comes to bordeaux, this was not exception, little or no fruit, good acid, slightly drying and while med plus bodied it didn't have much to enjoy on the palate... again, perhaps asleep but i'm not going to buy at this price or even at $100... just so easy to find tons of old Phelps Backus, Dunn, Heitz Martha's etc for that or less

Det er mulig å forstå at noen fnysende kaller dette for fruktkake. Den framstår som meget tilgjengelig på grensen til damevin. Med super frukt og integrerte tanniner. Uegnet til mat. Kos hele veien hjem.

another corvine of this wine, joe said it grew on him but for me this was way too big, in your face fruit and oak, felt extracted and overdone... maybe this will mature in 30 years to show some level of restraint but i wouldn't bet on it frankly... oh well, back to my two / three / four decade old cali cabs and older burgs and Piedmontese wines for me

Unlike the La Conseillante from the same vintage, this is undoubtedly ready to drink now. More classic Bodeaux nose with red and black fruit, spice, cedar, etc but also green pepper vegetal hints which remind of the rainy and difficult vintage.
Well integrated tannins, balanced and has a long finish and good value for money wine. Did not appear to open up significantly or reveal different nuances after being opened for longer period of time which makes me think that i dont need to keep waiting to have the rest of this case.

What a difference a year makes! A year ago, this was rather underwhelming, but it has now opened out and has soft, velvety, plum and blackberry fruit, slightly cooked, and is very elegant with medium weight and good length. Most enjoyable now, but should last well.

Coravin'd a full glass after picking this up out of curiosity (hadn't ever heard of this Chateau and frankly not a bit bordeaux fan), it was nice but pedestrian (for the price), a little soft and low-grip relative to what i expected, low'ish acid, round and dark, nice fruit but no sense of brightness or other complexity to balance the heaviness of the dark / rich elements, some chocolate notes... will write again when i have the rest of the bottle... will be curious if this was simply in a hole on this night... if i were confident this wine was in its drinking window i would have given it 89 or 90 at best (especially given my preferences for brightness and/or grip and/or elegance in my wine)

This has entered its prime time drinking window. And why not? It's close to 15 years of age. With an hour of air, the dark chocolate, plum, black cherry, truffle, licorice, earth and floral character start to shine. The wine is full bodied, fresh, plush and offers a lot of pleasure today.

Magnum shoot out - France vs. Italy (Switzerland): From Magnum, served blind. This was served next to the Voerzio Barbera Pozzo due to its fruityness and opulent character which we needed to pair with a Barbera. Consistent to my previous tasting note, a modern, really well made Pomerol from a top terroir and producer. This bottle showed additional secondary aromas adding even more complexity.

From Magnum bottle. Dark purple color. Jumps out of the glass with tons of dark berries (blueberries, blackberries), elderberries, dark chocolate, spices, graphite and some earth. It's full-bodied, dense and muscular with still medium-high acidity and medium-high tannin adding beautiful structure. The tannin is of top-notch quality. Over the course of the evening it's getting more complex and even silkier despite its size. A long and very complex finish confirm that we are in for something really really big. An opulent, but complex and fresh Pomerol of the very highest level! I really love this bottle!

A stunning wine. Readily expressive nose with cedar, spice, dark cherry, graphite and plum. Medium+ bodied with rich fruit, velvety tannins and perfect balance. Elegant and powerful in the same time. Very long. Already very enjoyable but will age for over a decade.

So I had used the coravin on this bottle twice before August and October 2014, no noticeable effect on the wine quite dark in colour and still a terrific range of flavour, bitter chocolate, plum, figs, vanilla, smoke and perfume, palate has tremendous depth of flavour and pure dark blue fruit and while it has terrific structure the mouth feel is silky smooth with a long long finish

Open for business now, withe coffe bean, licorice, dried plum fig and hint of rasin, palate has expressive dark fruit, with an interesting bitter chocolate component, though there is still an hint of heat towards the finish.

Opened in the name of science. Opened and tasted. To me, this screamed old world bordeaux. Beautiful nose and silky on the pallette. Decided to decant. After 2 hours in the decanter, the wine had closed up. No longer silky on the pallette, it became a wine with tension in the midpalate. The tannins became more prevalent and I left it alone. Revisited this morning, and it finally integrated into the beautiful wine it is meant to be.

My advice: pop and pour. Less air is better for immediate gratification. Or give it 18 to 24 hours of air.

This will be a thing of beauty in 20 years.
