Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

Two years since my last bottle. This is slowly coming around. Still a more traditional Pomerol with black cherries, minerals, with hints of cocoa on nose. Sour dark cherries with an elegant feel. Medium bodied with bright finish. Good for seekers of a more classic Pomerol. Fortunately losing that stringent aspect. Still, not as sexy as the richer profile '04 L"Evangile or LeGay.

I really need to calm down and stop opening this wine. Another excellent bottle full of very plush dark fruit. Some coffee and caramel and a hint of dark chocolate. Violet on the nose. Wonderful texture and a long finish.

If you're looking for dark chocoalte, boysenberry, truffle and flowers, you can the right place. Silky, smooth and sensuous, this plush, sweet, fresh wine leaves you with an opulent finish. Another 5 years in the cellar and this is going to explode!

Quick note. Sweet, spicy plum; milk chocolate; vanilla; caramelised raspberry; meat; smokey whisky barrel, floral components. A very classic Pomerol, but then what are these candy apple and bubblegum flavours creeping in towards the end?

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for 2 hours. Beautiful nose of blackberry, red currant, cherry, licorice, tobacco and chocolate. A ripe red and black fruit core of red currant, black cherry and blackberry combines with licorice, cocoa and fine tannins on the palate. Leads to a medium to long, bright finish. Medium to full bodied. Modern and elegant in style. Young and benefited from the air time. Paired well with Greek tenderloin.

Really liked this a lot. There's a core of incredibly pure red and dark fruited flavours tinged with cedar and higher toned herbal/tobacco elements. With air the fruit becomes sweeter and deeper complexioned, and this has a really elegant, polished texture that makes it very easy to drink right now.

An extremely classy Pomerol exhibiting a clear, deep ruby core. On the nose the wine is packed with fragrant mineral aromas as well as delightful notes of vanilla and raspberry. The texture is soft and unctuous with plenty of lush tannins and perfectly balanced flavors of blueberry, chocolate and some mild hints of toasty oak. The finish is long and silky. A great youthful wine already drinking wonderfully now and with a very long life ahead of it. This is one to save and enjoy with the children.

Dark crimson color turning rust at rim with reflecting edges. The nose is pungent with a concentrated bouquet of dried meat, leather, dark fruit and herbs. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied with a silky texture and lifted acidity. Flavors of truffle, meat, graphite, black currant, thyme, and cowhide leather. Finishes long with hints of minerals and clove. This is a very attractive wine from Hosana - elegant, complex, and meaty in character. Drink now with 30 minutes decanting until 2026.

Dusty pencil shavings, a little floral, with underlying charred dark fruit on the nose. Acidity makes this suited for food, and yet its just fine on its own. Tannic strength gives me a bit of a pucker, and not green or woody at all.

Post CNY wine tasting dinner (Singapore): Fourth red flight. Finally the Bordeaux. Similar to how I remember the last bottle of 2000 Bon Pasteur, the Hosanna showed again the excellency that was achieved in 2000 in Pomerol. A rather modern style of Bordeaux with rich dark fruit, dark chocolate and still a fair bit of oak it certainly has the structure to continue developing further. Long finish. The 2002 Mouton was obviously very different given the vintage and I suppose also the style of the Chateaux. Dark, still very tightly wound this was very elegant and noble. I was wondering whether it also could use a few more years but perhaps it will only turn out more austere a few years down the road, which is just how it started to show when I got back to it at the end of the dinner. Hosanna 93-94, Mouton 92

Along with Col d'Orcia 1999. Poured the frist glass and closed the bottle with stopper. Waited 5 hours to drink this glass: still dark ruby, initial sour cherry turned into plum in the nose, also williams-christ and violet, pleasant taste, tannins and good grip, cherry and underwood dominating, don't know if this can get more complex. Suggest, wine benefits from air at this stage, decanted this bottle. Drinking well but rather young. May improve with 3-5 years more of cellaring.

Four Birthdays and a Wedding Anniversary (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): The first bottle of a half-case that E and I bought en primeur to celebrate our wedding in 2008. We plan to open one every 5 years. This was way too young of course, but it showed excellent promise after sitting in a decanter for some 3 hours. The nose was quite pretty, but really very primary, with sweet notes of plums and blackberries, and some earthy, meaty tones, flecked with fragrant notes of spice and vanilla and flowers, with little sprigs of mint running behind. A very correct, young Pomerol nose I thought. The palate was just as primary, but it had a nice shape to it. There was a rich, rather thick texture to its plums and blackberry fruit, but there was a nice sense of purity and structure, with good acidity and some fine, slightly powdery tannins giving the wine a very nicely put together feel. It had a fine finish too, with notes of spice and mint trailing on behind. I liked what we saw on this bottle, it was a very complete wine and actually already quite attractive on the night, but it is really far too young to drink. Like any good marriage, this is a wine that needs time and patience to develop into something complex and beautiful. I am looking forward to drinking the remaining 5 bottles as we grow old together - I bet the wine will be drinking pretty nicely by the time we hit our 10th anniversary, and should be something quite special by the time we hit our 20th year. 92++

...a superb pomerol in its sweet spot...

accessed with Coravin...decanted 30 mins in glass...deep garnet/purple color with a fair amount of clarity and no fall off at the rim...earthen and ripe black fruits dominate nose with undertones of anise, cedar, chocolate, oriental spices and flowers...ripe yet restrained black cherry and cassis on entry with rich waves of truffles, spice and licorice through the mid-palate...very well structured with sensuous tannins and refined acidity that produce a long supple finish

Popped and poured, plum, chocolate, truffle and black raspberry aromatics took little effort to find. Full bodied, rich, plush and easy to taste, this is a very nice style of Pomerol. However, a few more years of age are going to add a lot of complexity and softness in texture.

Structured, rich and concentrated, this is more supple textured than many Pomerol wines from 2006. Packed with ripe, juicy plums, truffle and choclate covered cherries, I'd let this rest until at least 2016 before starting to enjoy its ample charms.
