4/20/2024 - sean20waldo Likes this wine: 93 pointsHeavier than the classic light extraction seen in many marroneto. Obviously young but tannins in the background. More dark fruit than the brunello. Will be interesting to try again in 5 or so years |

4/16/2024 - Philip67 Likes this wine: 93 pointsGood bright red cherry fruit with tar and leather behind. Dry on the finish, which reflects the massive tannins here, along with enlivening freshness. Good length, some complexity. Drinking nicely now, no need to wait, as to wait for the tannins to soften will likely mean waiting until the fruit has all but disappeared. |

3/24/2024 - jviz Likes this wine: 93 pointsServed blind. I whiffed, but that always happens with Sangiovese. This had red cherry, a healthy dose of spice and tea leaves. Approachable structure and vibrant acidity. Good complexity and highly aromatic. Very nice wine. |

3/24/2024 - Bbrown82 Likes this wine: 94 pointsExcellent Brunello! Still very tannin forward but fruit and floral notes shine through. Sour cherry, spices, leather, and slight oak. I think this approachable now but will be phenomenal in 10 years. 94 points. |

3/23/2024 - Nutty08 Likes this wine: 93 pointsPretty much open from the start. Given a splash decant. Dried red fruits with some tea leaves and light spice note. Quite fragrant with an elegant vibe. Vibrant palate that’s quite supple initially then firms up in the backend. Lengthy deep finish. Very good now and enjoyable. |

3/23/2024 - wirelesswine Likes this wine: NRNot yet rating as I think this may still be too young, or needed longer air exposure. There's really nice cherry flavor, wet stone, pencil shaving, and something fresh and medicinal. Just not as open as I thought it might be at 13 years of age, and finishing a bit short. Will wait a few more years for my next bottle. |

3/5/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: NRTuesday Night Blind Tasting (Bin 75): Tasted blind. Lovely nose, red sour cherry fruit, feminine style, sweet finish, but with tannic grip. I initially called it Tuscan Sangiovese, but the group consensus was Nebbiolo and that group think swayed me. |

3/12/2024 - Robmcl920 Likes this wine: NRThe '16 Brunello was attractive, although a bit on the light side and noticeably less complex than the Madonna, whereas in some other vintages like '19 I noticed less of a difference between the two wines. |

3/12/2024 - Robmcl920 Likes this wine: NRThe '17 Brunello is a beautiful wine and one where it's no crime to open a bottle today. The aromatics are wide open and very floral, with sweet red roses, red berry fruit, and mint. While I believe '17 was a warmer year in Brunello and in theory less classic, the fruit tones here are lighter and to me more attractive than the '16 or '19. At least in Barolo, the aromas here would be indicative of a cool, classic year. |

3/12/2024 - Robmcl920 Likes this wine: NRThe regular Brunello seemed quite close to the Madonna in 2019 based on this brief impression, with the Madonna just showing a bit more depth / concentration but also more tannin. As was the theme across most vintages, the straight Brunello was more texturally elegant and approachable. |

Still very closed, not a crime to drink now if you are a “primary” kind of drinker. Morelo cherry nose. Dark raspberry palate. Very concentrated and complex but better in 3-5 years. 94/100 |

3/3/2024 - jnewman77 Likes this wine: NRFirst time with this bottling; I really like the Il Marroneto regular Brunello; this was also good, but for my particular palate not better and maybe actually not as good as the regular bottling. It was bigger and richer with ripe red berry fruits; almost in a liqueur like style; mint, anise, forest floor, and a whiff of worn leather. The palate is big, pretty tannic, and has a bit of alcohol noted on the back end. It is certainly tasty with food, but I would prefer more acidity and less alcohol. Still has plenty of time ahead of it based on this bottle. |

2/28/2024 - sfwinelover1 Likes this wine: NRSecond of 2 (1/23 TN), and unlike so many other wines I’ve revisited in the past 6 months with a year+ in between bottles, this has barely budged, for better and worse, so that I don’t have much of anything to add to that TN. This benefits from 30-45 minutes of air to sort itself out, then held well over 3 nights, even with some shifting notes. The structure is still strong, so this should have several years of drinking around this level left. Very solid at my price point ($45), but a lot less inspiring that at the 2x+ WS is showing, which puts it at or above Fuligni, Ucciliera, and Ciacci Pianrosso and not far behind Casanova di Neri TN, all of which I’d prefer. Fwiw, of the 3 vintages in the vertical, I’d rank them ‘12, ‘13 and ‘11. 92-93ish if scoring. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |
