Drank at Bob Bob Richards
We did not decant this for long enough so it did not get into its full stride.
Nose of dark berries, pencil, spices, earth and vanilla. Deep complex mouth feel. Medium length.

Light on the nose. Midweight on the palate. Black fruit and leather, good balance, just not particularly powerful. Relatively short finish. Overall this was just ok. I just don't think this is my style of wine.

Decanted 3 hours before dinner and wine started to hit its stride late into the meal. At first light with noticeable acidity but then aromas meld into fine mature bouquet of spices, dark berries and notes of graphite. Appealing with skirt steak and rillette and chutney

Decent wine but nothing special from a pedigreed vineyard. The Grand Places last week showed a wider aromatic profile and richer texture.

Dark colour. Elegant perfume notes. Mature end elegant. Chewy texture. Great wine in beautiful balance, but with the risk of sounding ungrateful it lacks that little bit of extra oomph you would expect from a Côte-Rôtie.

gorgeous, voluptuous nose and initial entry on the palate. Could be mistaken for a great 1er cru Burg. Only thing missing is the finish, somewhat short. Still a beautiful Cote Rotie in its prime.

Licorice, cherry liqueur, truffle, cocoa, spice, earth, kirsch and herbs create the complex aromatics. Sweet, lush, full bodied and loaded with minerals and fresh strawberries, this can be enjoyed now, or for the next 15-20 years.

Now that the 2003 Cote Rotie vintage has a few years on it, the wines have really started to come around. Most are forward, fleshy, rich and offer decadent textures. The 2003 Gerin La Landonne is no exception. With a nose filled with bacon fat, flowers, cherries, black raspberries, earth, spice, smoke and charcoal, this is a voluptuous wine. Rich in texture, the wine feels great as it slides from the glass. It's only now starting to open. A few more years will add additional complexity to the wine.

This is a perfect reminder of what makes Cote Rotie so great. When you cannot afford Guigal, and you want to enjoy a bottle of La Landonne, this is the perfect choice. Bacon fat, pepper, flowers, black cherry, licorice, truffle, earth, black raspberryand kirsch make up the complex perfume. This elegant, stylish, silky, rich, supple, round wine delivers a wonderful expression of Syrah. With 20 minutes of decanting, the wine popped in the mouth and the nose and continued improving for the next two hours. It's hard to find, but worth the search.

Rhone dinner at home with Jada, David, Vkoo and Carman: It was a delight to come across this rare and delicious cote-rotie. The nose was distinctly northern rhone Syrah with its delightful combination of dark fruits, flowers and meats [not the most elegant description perhaps, but that's what came to mind!]. Notes of leather were also present in this refined, medium bodied cote-rotie, which IMO is fully mature and drinking very nicely. An absolute treat

This wine opens with jammy blackberry, slate, bacon fat, pepper. mesquite, garrigue and floral aromatics. Massive, bold, masculine and powerful, this concentrated wine is acidic in the mouth. The wine ends in a long garrige filled finish. Still young, this Cote Rotie will improve with another 3-5 years.

A beautiful, soft, sexy wine, perfect drinking time frame. Still great nose of bacon fat and tar and smoke. Light in color, could mistake the color for an equally old Burg. But the palate is beautiful with a long finish.

Definitive Rhone (Fabi and Rosi European Kitchen Austin, Texas): There is not much of this wine produced, and this was interesting to taste with an older, 1992 Guigal La Landonne. The wines are quite different, with the Gerin feminine, accessible, drinkable. This had a perfume character, with some pronounced viognier, and was soft and well-balanced. It improved over two hours and probably should have been decanted earlier. It had more on the nose (including oak) than the 1985 and 1992 Guigals, was more new world in style, had good fruit and no flaws, and lacked some structure. It had a bright, dark red/purple color, and lots of flavor notes, including cherry and cola, candied red fruit, kirsch, black raspberries, olive, bacon fat, sage, ham, and oak--some complained of the oak. Several thought this wine needed another 4-5 years to show potential.

WIMPs N Rhone Lunch (The Ledbury, London): it was very nice to have this next to the Rostaing La Landonne. this wine was a lighter purple with the rim lightening up. there was lovely bretty smokey quality to this wine when first poured and it had the secondary tastes of an older rhone, almost a bit sweaty. but as it sat in the glass it rounded out and became fuller. it was a drink i enjoyed today but to lay down i think i would bet on the Rostaing
