So big I think you have to wait. Amazing flavors. Tons of black olive and spice. Mouth coating and dark dark purple. Needs a good decant if you want to drink now. HUGE wine. 94+

2 hour decant. Nose of leather, forest floor, pepper. Concentrated flavors of blackberry, smoked meats. Prodigious.

After showing off a multifaceted and very pretty bouquet, this bottle fell short on the palate. Not corked, but somewhat disjointed with a distinctively tart and acidic bordering on sour finish. Whether this was just a single bottle issue will have to await the opening of another one.

Consumed at HVS dinner. No formal notes (LDO), but this was massive, huge, something else. Bob B. felt this would be amazing in 10 years.

Deep garnet/red color with little bleeding. Very intense rich Syrah fruit nose with little window dressing - pure. Took a good hour to come around - resulting wine was big, intense and full of juicy red fruit flavor. Good balancing acidity. Only nit was it lacked complexity. Great for the style. (91)

As good as last tried from my cellar 4 years ago. Medium purple. Nice nose and palate of blackberry, blueberry pepper, smoke and spice. Smooth with long finish and no tannin. A delicious drink.

San Francisco; 4/15/2014-4/18/2014 (San Francisco Area): Young and rich with spicy nose, roast meat feel. Good solid core of ripe fruit that carries the wine from start to finish. Young wine and on the fruit, very much a cote rotie style wine with a riper Californian edge. Elegant and full of promise. Should be treated like a great cote roties and allowed to age . Very very good. 93 at this stage but lots of potential. Wait 5yrs

Wow this is good. Beautiful nose but then just opens with layers of flavor and a fleshy mouth feel. Concentrated black fruits, smoke, roasted meats, spices. Long finish and great balance.

Decanted for 2 hours and it could have used more time. We followed this wine for a couple more hours as it continued to evolve. Some of the many flavors that poured from the glass were black cherry, plum, spice, herbs, licorice, white flowers, and leather. Absolutely beautiful wine that is in my opinion the best Syrah coming from Northern California.

Incredible syrupy texture packed with an powerful blast of smoked meat, black/blueberry, vanilla, oak, and anise. The body is silky smooth but lacking the structural backbone and minerality to further improve. The wine delivers on what you would expect (big fruit) and remains the best Napa Syrah out there. For full payoff decant 3 hours.

3 hour decant. Inky, intense Syrah. Plum, tobacco, smoke, and cured meat all show on the nose. Firm tannins on the finish help balance out the dark fruit on the front palate. This wine is massive and will definitely need time in your cellar. Tasted amazing but be patient and this wine will get even better.

Five years since the last bottle. This time around, dark orange-tinted red in the glass, and a mix of dark fruit and rotting wood on the nose. On the palate, more dark fruit with a bit of mid-palate sweetness. While the tannins have largely (but not completely) resolved, I didn't find much of the olive, beef blood, or campfire complexity from our earlier bottle, either, so if this bottle was indicative, it's probably time to drink up.

1 hour decant. Big. Some nut and potpourri, especially on the finish. Tannins somewhat strong. I think this will be much better in 5-10 years.

This is the third bottle we've had. Two hours of decanting. The good news is that it seems to be coming together, and is less disjointed. The ambiguous news is that I'm still unsure where this is headed; some of the complexity present in previous bottles seemed to be absent with this bottle, leaving us with a pleasant syrah, but without the mineral complexity or mid-palate sweetness that we would expect from bottles in this price range. Tune in for the next bottle in a couple of years.

Syrah from around the world dinner (2nd Empire): The nose was beguiling of unsweetened raisins, the palate showed similar fruit, more of an elegant style rather than jammy - although could be that the fruit was fading. Mid palate slightly lacking depth of fruit. Very enjoyable, good food wine. 95

In Wailea....

Chocolate covered cherries, stewed tomatoes, braised lamb, sassafras, hot pebbles and Oolong tea. The middle palate just looms and weaves the most beguilingly silky tannins; the long and endowed finish will go on for an eternity. There's so much time left to this illustrious siren. Drink now - 2023.

Eucalyptus and mint. Deep wine with a great deal of complexity. Not sweet or syrupy what so ever! Fruit did come out more towards the end. Decanted for an hour and drank over 4 hours.

Fine Syrah/Shiraz wutg Michael Schuster (Bordeaux Index, London): This is more of a fine Ermitage than a new world wine. Requires a lot of decanting and really this is on the young side and can easily need another 5yrs to hit its peak. Light spicy nose, dark, smoky feel, roast meat. Very balanced, elegant wine on the palate, nothing over done here. Good weight and depth, vibrant yet fine tannins and with a bit more time in bottle this will be even better. This is Syrah NOT shiraz. very good. 92
